1992 Vancouver BC. Day drinking with a pal. Ended up shooting pool and sharing pints with this band. They invited us to the show and gained a forever fan!
Paul, i know you are not from HULL, but thank you so so much for putting HULL on the map. i was in GRAFTON PUB the other week and i thought of you lol. I THANK AND LOVE YOU BEAUTIFUL SOUTH AND THE HOUSEMARTINS XXXXXXX
This was the best line up! Jacqui Abbott born in the same town as me St. Helens was by far the best female The Beautiful South ever had. When i think of The Beautiful South it's always with her!
What happened to British music/ music in general? A band playing their own instruments competently and singing in perfect harmony...well I never. Awesome.
Man I wish I saw the Beautiful South when I had the chance. They're an awesome band! - It's such a shame they ain't as popular or more popular than they used to be It's ironic how the lead vocals was shared between three different singers who do not play another instrument, yet their other musician are instrumentalists and are as recognised as them. For instance, I wonder what Paul Heaton did during the recording of Rotterdam (my personal favourite), because the male singers did not sing that one, but Jacqui did.
josh, 'technically' dave hemingway did play drums in the housemartins but he's such a good vocalist they kept him up front in the south. i was fortunate enough to see them on their final tour in san diego and i believe every english person in s.d. was there! great memories.
james atkinson,They replaced Oasis on the first night of the REM gigs cos they were too busy recording 'What's the story' so they pulled out and the south were booked for the second night but did the first aswel, they covered Oasis's 'some might say' and it were brilliant, good gig but both bands were far too quiet! I think there were some (Kirklees) council issues with the sound if I remember right.
Sound quality bad, but not due to the upload. This is incompetence by the studio soundmaster and an almost complete failure to balance the soundscape and get the high frequencies in phase with the mid scales. It get better at around 11:30 but at 12:50 he's still fiddling with the treble volume, sigh...
It’s 2023 and the Beautiful South are still on the list of best performing bands ever. Also on the list of most underrated bands ever. Superb 👍👍
You'll never issue a finer statement 👏

@@boxing22 Correct. Totally!

She doesn't have the voice of her predecessor (Corrigan), as far as I can tell... and is much more subdued on stage, too.

Jacquie Abbott was by far ther best female vocalist, such a fantastic range
I personally think all 3 were out this world they struck gold 3 times over 👍
@@liamwalters5029 there were 3? Thought it was just Brianna and Jacqui

They were all good but Brianna was the only one who had a unique and distinctive voice, as can be heard on Bell Bottomed Tear.

Mr Paul heaton takes a bit of beating in the British pop scene , I've followed him for years

So, so good>
It’s in their contract that the ambient temperature can never rise above 54 degrees
They will never age
