- In today's episode of Sound Like, Rabea & Matt take on a mega challenge to recreate the classic-rock tones of AC/DC for Under £500!! A fairly simple rig but nonetheless effective. Equipped with an Epiphone SG Special, Gretsch Electromatic along with a duo of Marshall & Orange amplifiers. How close can the guys get without busting the bank?

I'm pretty sure the schoolboy uniform adds to the tone as well though
agreed but it has to be 8 sizes to small
Agreed, because anyone with the balls to go to stage like that must have the hands to back them up
He wore the backpack back in the 70's so he could go wireless .......... technology has improved...........
I think breaking into Ashfield boys and stealing their uniform is mildly illegal. Though I know a couple of people who go there that could seal the deal :)
@@memebigboy1946 and have to lose weight hehehehe
Sound like Chappers & the Captain without busting the Liquor Store.
HA HA :)
Jesus lol
This made my day
Felt like that Orange was eating the code for lunch
Chuck Dickens 100% comes from the Epiphone shitty pickups...
(+Chuck Dickens) Definitely! Orange really is one of the greats, but is seen as a side company. Think, that amp is a cheap SS, and it sounds great.
I havent been convinced the Code is any good, the hard thing is 500 pounds for 700 pounds probably could of got a small valve amp, maybe they should of tried the VOX MV50 Lead (or whatever the marshall one is).
@SnowMAR740Gz
You've cleverly never A/B'ed Epiphone pups into a DI box or you wouldn't say that. The modern Epi pups sound a lot better than most stock ones and even a good chunk of aftermarket pups.
But that guitar does have very meeeh pickups. The pickups in 90 euro kit were much more on point from my experience.
I like this 500/1500 and unlimited formats, as it covers everybody's bank balance, well done guys
Ross Horne they'd have to tie one string to a stick to cover my budget
Well then i think rob scallon has something in stock for you!
(+Ross Horne) A 1000 would be good. That's what my range was.
matts rig sounded better by a factor of over 9000
kilerkai KAKAROT!
Yeah, G400 with the Orange Crush would have been better choice for Angus I think.
kilerkai that Gretsch/ Orange growl was awesome.
nah man his rig sounded worse
Look, most of us already know how to get the AC DC crunch sound. We are mostly just here to see Rebea play. \m/
Whilst telling ourselves, "Ok, I don't need a more expensive guitar then" :)
Joseph De Jong So true
And make sure he's eaten properly, he's looking very skinny these days. I those Anderton folks are paying him enough 😂
AC/DC uses expensive stuff, they got pretty close with only $500. You can always upgrade later when you have more money. Solid work as usual, Andertons
I was about to comment the same thing.
a touch more bass on rab's SG, and less gain on Matt's Gretsch would have been closer. Still, a great attempt - very impressive and good choices.
do led zepellin under 500 £.
that would be a challenge
A Squier Tele and that Orange Crush would get reasonably close to the Zep I/II/Stairway sounds, I reckon. Get in the ballpark of the Tele/Supro combination JP used on the early Zep stuff.
neilomac or an epi les paul
@@neilomac even though he did start on a Tele, I think a Les Paul is better for his overall tone, but then again some of my favourite zep songs are when he used a tele
Cheap Les Paul and an Orange Crush 30/60. No pedals.
@@Joe-hl2ts remember that he also used Tele to record while using Les Paul for live concerts.
The Orange sounds a lot better to me than the Marshall tbh.
Orange crush seem underappreciated for how good they are.
brutalbeetle Yeah, Dave Simpson sounds mega through his CR120 head!
Oh god yeah. I have no idea how it sounds that good. He has picked up some brilliant solid state amps. Also just his playing is incredible and he is a quirky guy.
I always set my amp to the Orange amp model to get that Angus sound :)
The Crush 35RT and Crush Pro stuff is great. Basically solid state Rockerverbs.
Dirty deeds, done dirt cheap.
David Pay haha good one
Dirty Rigs, Done Dirt Cheap??
Metallica by busting the bank or Metallica for under £500
Charlie Luckhurst I second that! Also do you mean 500 pounds for both james and kirk or 500 for james and 500 for kirk?
Wah Wah 500 for James and 500 for Kirk
500/89 = 5 Cry Baby WAH's!
johnpickk they should probably do by busting as £500 won't give them a budget for the wah pedalS
Boogie mark v and an emg equipped esp and you're there!
That Crush! It sounds so huge! Honestly, I think the Crush is as good a SS you can get. I mean, I would prefer a cranked tube amp myself, but a Crush is better low volumes.
The Crush just blows out the Marshall.
Totally agree, seriously the code series is one of the worst amp series of marshall, the orange is about x200 times better
never clicked on anything faster in my life! Not a joke love ACDC love the budget thing and i just had a crap day at school :(
sorry man
thanks bro
Equal Videos ha same
srry bro me too, failed a chemistry test
sorry about that
Matt is a really solid rhythm guitar player, which is as much a key to sounding like AC/DC as anything. A good strumming hand and an understanding of the beat is vital.
Well done gentlemen. I own a Code and I love it. I'd enjoy seeing you guys do Van Halen.
Stevie ray vaughan by busting the bank or under 500
I own several expensive custom shop guitars but I've also been playing a Gretsch Jet Club for a few years because I wanted a cheap instrument that I could carry in a gigbag.
These guitars are a fantastic value for the money and have their own personnality. The tuners aren't that great - I installed some gotohs instead - but aside from that the building quality is top notch and the pickups sound great!
This under £500 series are great, real challenge. Rabea's volume is little low in the video but sounds good. I'm getting excited every time I hear gretsch. Definitely its in my shopping list after this.
I so much love watching these guys!!! Those budget videos are so cool.
Eins, zwei, drei, vier, fünf, sechs,
Sieben, acht, neun, aus...
Sounds like... Rammstein!
Danke! :)
František Vtelenský Ja, bitte! Sound like Rammstein:))))
Jackson JS32 Dinky
Boss Katana (Standard)
Metalzone
Boss Katana voll aufgedreht und auf beim Metalzone alles auf 10... bitteschön XD
Sound like Gojira??
I have that same model of SG and the Orange crush 35, amazing combo
Lads this was an absolute treat. Great stuff. The wee young lads were adorable - full of fun, enthusiasm and knowing their stuff. Your playing was tighter than a gnat's chuffer and the tones you achieved sounded like an air strike. Awesome. Thanks.
Boss Katana!? Those amps are unreal for the money!
Ben Donkin You could literally do every sub £500 video with appropriate guitar + Boss Katana.
@@therflcommish Yes, a boss katana and a hsh/hss strat or something with coil splits and you're set
Please do sound like Michael Schenker/UFO some day. Would be glorious.
Scorpions would be cool as well !
Hell yeah it would.
Kai Fischer Both bands have killer guitarists yet they don't get the credit they deserve
Eintrachtminecrafter that's sadly true
Kai Fischer Rudolf Schenker writes cool riffs, Matthias Jabs plays really great lead lines and Michael Schenker is just a beast
Loved this episode. The extended riffs made a big difference, more please!!!
Bring this back please! I love these. I’ve rewatched them all many times. I need some new ones. 💕🤘🏽💕
Sound Like Scott Ian from Anthrax for under £1500 (including pedals).
....Also, "The Captain Meets: Danish Pete", make it happen!!
I'd love to see Sounds Like The Clash (London Calling-era) or Pete Townshend (Live At Leeds or Who's Next-era)
I want Clash give'em enough rope era
Love these episodes guys. Please can you do QOTSA by busting the bank. The without busting was one of your earliest and would love to see you try get their tones with high fidelity gear!
Great video guys! Just purchased my first brand new guitar from Andertons - Epiphone SG G-400 Pro cannot wait for it to arrive
Sound Like Muse BY Busting the bank! (use a fender tele with hum buckers for the 2001-10 stuff ;))
i'd say American Pro Deluxe
Isaac Miller I think the amp is going to give the bite more than the guitars tbh, I'm pretty sure matt used a Marshall of some description so a JCM 800 or a JVM would do it
Christian Cotton he still uses a Marshall on stage, I just think the pickups on a fender tele, even though there humbuckers I think something I little more modern
Matt always used combination of few amps like Diezel and Marshall for sure. He use even Kemper nowadays. Guitar - here would be the best choice Manson of course. But I doubt, that Andertons stock those beauties. Same with ZVEX stuff like Fuzz Factory, Mastotron etc., which is quite necessary for sounds like Muse. Matt also of course use a lot his Digitech Whammy pedal. But for sound like Muse, there is so many things to do, not only guitar. Cuz big part of their sound is bass. Chris use basic overdrives, but also crazy fuzz effects, touch pad for Madness and Dig down. Next and really huge chapter is electronics sounds, keyboards, theremin, etc. I love, how they combine everything together and still try to find something new. I think, that this episode could easily take for about an one hour. :D :)
That'll be a massive rig to span all the things they've done over the years. I'd love to see it!
VAN HALEN ON A BUDGET PLEASE!!!
Miles Smith *YES*
YE!
Miles Smith for sure
you dont need that
get a single humbucker strat
a plexi style marshall
a flanger
maybe a chorus
and a tuner
silvio santapaola phaser no chorus
I have a Jet Club and don't have tuning issues. One of the best value guitars you can get, feels better than some guitars twice the price
Always happy to see people enjoy the orange crush series. They're seriously good amps. A local band plays one live and it sounds indistinguishable from a tube amp in a band situation. I was blown away.
Some ideas that could be interesting to do:
Alcest
Deafheaven
Devin Townsend
Strapping Young Lad
Dream Theater
Opeth
Slayer
Megadeth
Behemoth
Entombed
Gojira
Cattle Decapitation
Deicide
Carcass
Fu Manchu
High on Fire
Orange Goblin
Anathema (in their doom/death era)
Kyuss (I know you already did Josh Homme, but on his QOTSA period which sonically differs quite a bit from his time in Kyuss, and if you had to choose only one album, Blues for the Red Sun is the way to go)
Meshuggah (a big part of their sound comes from having a clean bass player playing the same notes as the rythm guitar player so you might wanna invite a guest if you do this one *cough* Dave *cough*)
And a few lesser known artists that have some great sounds (not necessarily for sounds like, just check them out, they're great):
Klone
Hacride
Trepalium
Hypno5e
Der Weg Einer Freiheit
Déluge
Year of no Light
Mars Red Sky
King Hiss
President Evil
Radio Moscow
The Necromancers
Gorod
Black Fast
Those are just ideas of course, if you do only one from the list, I'll already be quite happy
i thought that said "Pete Townshend" for a moment, now i am dissapointed :(
but i do wanna see sound like The Who (Pete Townshend) without busting the bank
i want Sound Like The Who too
Sound like on a shoestring.
Also please do John Norum of Europe, in my opinion they're a seriously underrated band that just keep getting better.
Both sounded pretty good for under $500. The orange and Gretsch sounded fantastic-great rock tone!
love this new series!
Sounds like J. Mascis from Dinosaur Jr!
Iron maiden by busting in the bank €500
They have to get the Dave Murray strat for this outing, they have two choices for amplifier, Victory V100 or Marshall JCM/JVM cos he does use some marshalls, a Dunlop Cry Baby Wah, an MXR Analog Chorus, A Boss DD7, a Boss BF3 Flanger (for number of the beast) and a Boss RV6
for Adrian get the expensive USA Adrian Smith Jackson, a marshall head and cab
and for steve harris, just get his fender and a bass amp of sorts
William Allison Distortion+ and Phase90 for Dave, Tubescreamer for Adrian, and a good chord for Janick.
Feels like Gers needs to get in there too:)
Awesome you guys are the best at this!
This budget minded videos are my favorite! Keep them up
could you do a "sound like" Jason Becker episode? truely one of the most amazing guitarists ever.
shame ALS claimed his skills
Sound Like EVH !!!!
Jeremy Bringas interesting. Id see them with a Wolfgang, or an hss strat through a katana, or a DSL with pedals
that orange and wretch sound great together
I've had several bedroom amps over the years for home practice and the Orange Crush 20 I had was by far the best. It sounds great clean or overdriven, and takes pedals like a champ.
Sound like guns n roses under $500
Erin Wright Chappers and The Captain did a 'Sound like Slash for under 1,000.'
Gregory Aliano We need Matt Stradlin too, Slashea alone no Guns n Roses make.
You can see on my channel how I sound like Slash and Hetfield with my Marshall CODE presets: ua-cam.com/play/PLOzeFSqF0-7zUtTPvF2ZMghKsi7QXMdNp.html
yes
Do one (or three) for Meshuggah :)
Or eight :)
Great job - the twang was great for Angus' lead tone, and the punch for Malcolm. The Gretsch is nice!
I really like that you let those kids have a part in the show, probably made their day.
sounds like the London Philharmonic Orchestra for under 500
Sound like The Police !
Jano Sanchez "nee-nah, nee-nah, nee-nah, hello, hello, hello, what's all this then?" There you go, sorted
i think andy summers uses a telecaster, i don't really know that much
but i think that rabea should be andy and matt should be sting
Gavin Badcock I do not know what you mean...
Telecaster with neck humbucker > Dyna comp > Electric Mistress > Phase 90 > Tape or Analog Delay > Clean marshall.
I think they could do it under 1000 if they can find a Squier with those specs and use tone city or mooer copy pedals (heard the elec lady is pretty on par).
Thanks your uploading another acdc vid!
Great review guys. I like the $500 budget idea.
....the cult.....please...pleeeaaasseeee
YES!
Looooong overdue.
I agree but getting a White Falcon substitute could be tricky.
I'd probably go with a les Paul tbh, that's what sticks out for me at least, a gretsch would be equally great
Avenged sevenfold please, I've been waiting for so long....
Asking the customers is a great way forward for these vids
The Epi & Code sounded thin BUT together, you guys did a great job as usual. Props to you guys, Lee & the entire Anderton's crew for providing us with stellar vids. 👍🏻
U should do sounds like periphery
You might want to think about remixing the audio on this one, Matt's amp is too loud and Bea's is way too quiet.
sounds fine to me
Craig Heath Has nothing to do with the mix. Bea just grabbed the shittiest modeler on the market. If they both had oranges and bea boosted the treble while Matt dialed the gain down, that would sound infinitely better
Oops, just discovered my right speaker has been slowly dying, sorry chaps!
Great playing guys!!
Honestly, I would've went for the Katana 100 ($330), an Epiphone SG-Special ($179), and a MXR 6 Band EQ ($89) to run in the FX Loop. All together that equals out to about 460 pounds. Which would leave room for cables and a power supply.
Anyhow, you guys did a great job. This has always been my favorite series on this channel 👌
Joe Bonamassa please.
Sam Anderson It must happen
Please do a Sound Like Graham Coxon!
of blur? nice one
Great job always :) you both rocks
The tone of that Orange amp is amazing for the price! Very impressed for a little solid state amp!
Sound like Alexi Laiho!!!
Sounds like the Pixies!
Joey and Charles are both brilliant musicians and underrated as guitar players!
Great job guys!
Woah!!! That Gretsch/Orange sounds ace!
Sounds Like Fugazi?
Seth Seabolt dude as much as I would love to see that, I don't think Matt and Rabia know fugazi
I wait, I wait, I wait, I wait....
Uhhh...you don't think Rabea knows Fugazi? The guy is a masterful progressive guitarist with obvious influence from noise rock, not too many clicks away from that scene. And not that it means anything to know the most obscure bands (who cares?) but Fugazi aren't exactly all that obscure...
Veganism is a moral imperative in just curious where do you hear the noise rock influence in Rabea's playing?
Mark Jones fair point! You never know though!
You guys should do Avenged Sevenfold! I think it'd be a great video. £500 or the usual budget. I just think it'd be great. Like if you agree so they can see this!
That Orange Crush 35RT sounded absolutely killer!
Sound like Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers please!!
This video proved something really important. The sounds have a TON to do with the players. For two rigs that inexpensive you both got massively close to the AC/DC sound! No Pedals, no compensating, just straight up playing into two inexpensive amps.
Now give the BY busting the bank rig to two guitar players who have trouble with tone and feel and.. you get the idea. So this is really "Sound like AC/DC for under 500 with a TON of practice!!" Cheers guys I hope this inspires those two young AC/DC fans in the video to try and grab some gear and do what you both just did!!
Muse by busting
Great job!! Now try to Sound Like Coheed and Cambria!
Excellent work by the guest stars.
fantastic video excellent to get public involved too nice one guys
Sound like ritchie blackmore
Kool Stuffz Andertons doesn't stock Engl amps, though ;)
Kool Stuffz didn't Ritchie play Marshall's before ENGL? That will probably work too, to get close. Besides his classic tones are from the 70's and pretty sure he used Marshall then.
D. van der Donk jup, I'm fairly sure he used these 200 Watt non-master volume monsters back in the day. So, you're right: maybe a heavily powersoaked Plexi could do the trick. But then again smaller Engls such as the Rockmaster series wouldn't bust the bank...
Do Jimi Hendrix for under 500!
2PercentSkimMilk ohhh god that would be hard
(+Gezzacom) Nah, a Katana amp would be better. Maybe a wah… Nope, they probably can't find one for that price.
They’ve managed somehow
Sounded like shit if I recall
LOL! I was just sitting here thinking you guys could sell snow to an Eskimo you play so well that even the affordable lines sound fantastic! Good job; well done! Mission accomplished!!! :D
Great to hear the (relatively new?) Epiphone SG Special VE. I'm actually looking into getting my first guitar and that's one of my options. I have a very limited budget and it's good to now it can sound good, and what some of he potential issues are.
Sound like motorhead
Do Amon Amarth without busting the bank... Okay that was a joke
no it might be good
Really enjoyed this vid - thought the gretsch / orange mix sounded great
Love the videos! could you do a muddy waters series? With and without busting the bank?
sound like rammstein pls
++
Sound like Tosin Abasi?
and Javier Reyes
it goes without saying they both need 8 string guitars, the best option is the £400+ ibanez 8 string or a 7 string
they have to do some of these songs: CAFO, Woven Web, Tooth And Claw, Tempting Time, Physical Education, Arithmophobia or Kascade
I think you guys nailed it!
Love these videos. Would love to see sounds like bass editions though.
Personally I don't think the Orange sounds like ACDC whatsoever. It kinda sounds too dirty and not trebly enough. Maybe a Marshall MG50 or Roland Street Cube would've been a bit better but I don't know....it was a tough task for Matt
Yeah, perhaps he should have steered from the Gretsch idea to afford a different amp. However, I guess part of wanting to be the band is things like the right brand/look as much as sound.
I've got an Orange Dark Terror and I accidentally found a perfect ACDC tone. I mostly play metal and I use a Boss Metal Zone as a clean/treble boost (like Cannibal Corpse do), but when you roll back the guitar's volume and play through that combination, it sounds like a gorgeous crunchy plexi with plenty of top-end.
I have a Jim Root terror myself. I know how those amps work and that they are versatile. But the Cruch series is MUCH different from the terrors
Sound like Kasabian?
MORE! WE NEED YOU GUYS TO DO MORE
Nice video I love when you guys do sounds like on a small budget and also I'd love to see sound like KISS
This is nice, can we have some sound likes for these fellows
Dave Cobb
Doyle Bramhall II
Eric Johnson
Red Hot Chilli Peppers (Josh Klinghoffer & Flea)
Waddy Wachtel
Warpaint (Emily Kokal & Theresa Wayman) we need a female sound like for once so why not two females of a band?
Margaret Glaspy
Bon Jovi (John Shanks & Phil X) you could do a Hugh McDonald rig if you want
Jimmy Eat World (Jim Adkins & Tom Linton)
Tedeschi Trucks Band (Derek Trucks & Susan Tedeschi) you can throw in a bass rig for Tim Lefebvre if you wanna
Deafheaven (Kerry McCoy & Shiv Mehra)
Eric Gales
Dinosaur Jr (J Mascis & Lou Barlow)
Coco Montoya
Marcus King
Lee Brice
Seether
A Perfect Circle (James Iha & Matt McJunkins) and yes it's the same guitarist from Smashing Pumpkins
Rival Sons (Scott Holiday) BY busting the bank
Royal Thunder
Russian Circles
Hall And Oates (John Oates & Shane Theriot)
Jonny Lang
Mr Big (Paul Gilbert & Billy Sheehan) or you can do Racer X (Paul Gilbert & Chris Bouliet)
Silversun Pickups
Robert Randolph
The Doobie Brothers
AFI (James Puget & Hunter Burgan)
Citizen
Young The Giant (Eric Cannata & Jacob Tilley)
Earth Wind & Fire (Verdine White)
The Dead Daisies (Doug Aldrich & Marco Mendoza)
you could also have Bullet For My Valentine (Matthew Tuck & Michael Paget)
My Bloody Valentine (Kevin Shields & Bilinda Butcher)
King Crimson (Robert Fripp & Adrian Belew)
Journey (Neal Schon)
Mac Demarco
The Who (Pete Townshend & John Entwistle)
Devin Townsend
and even John Petrucci & John Myung of Dream Theater
Shidonlad's V&G I'm sure rabea could style his hair to look like Belinda butcher's
the sg looks like a toy lol
lol i agree
Cause of the matt finish.
Nice to hear such a difference.
I love this series. I would like to suggest that you show the amp settings on these videos. That Orange amp sounded awesome.
