And like, it was his and Liam's band anyway. They brought Kalli on in the first place. And let's admit it, his voice is miles beyond hers. At that time he was only beginning to explore his own voice. But you listen to any IAMX album compared to any of Kalli's solo records and it's quite clear who the better vocalist and musician in general is. Kalli is still great, and her music is really fun, but she lacks the depth of Chris' lyrics, the emotion of his vocals, and the technical skill of his instrumentation

My shit is straight. Chris wrote all the lyrics for all the sneaker pimp songs. Kelis was never intended to be a permanent singer, and was kicked out because she wanted to write her own songs....after hearing her solo efforts...they made the right choice.

I think it's fair to say that Chris live & in recordings > Kelli live As for who sounds better in recordings, I think it all comes down to the type of song. Though there are some songs that suit both of their voices (this song & 6 Underground), can anyone imagine Chris singing the other songs from Becoming X or Kelli singing any of the songs off of Splinter and Bloodsport? Kelli was perfect for Becoming X & Chris was perfect for Splinter/Bloodsport. I wouldn't have wanted it any other way.

Though Kelli's contribution was compelling at the time -- this is Chris' song and it's nice to hear it without a more... plebeian... mitigation. Besides, regardless of the quality of this particular performance, Chris' voice is like a siren; check the acoustic "Loretta Young Silks" or a live bit of IAMX's "Spit it Out."

More nugatory acts'll simply recapitulate recorded material on stage. The Sneaker Pimps, though, at least seem to prize recontextualization; I really enjoy hearing the song made darker and different. It fits the artistic prerogative of the band at the time.
