This album changed my life. It's so well done from start to finish.
Same here. It was about 22-23 years ago, I was hanging around a local street market which sold pirated music, and stumbled upon a cassette that said "Sneaker Pimps - Splinter, Alternative Electronic Music". The band's name appeared vaguely familiar (from the collaboration with Marilyn Manson, as I later recalled), but the main reason I decided to buy that album was its cover. The back of someone's head with a strange haircut, somehow I thought that was intriguing enough. I remember putting that cassette in my Walkman on my way home... I was captivated from the first sound. It was totally different from anything I've ever heard before. The music, the voice, the mood... Strange, eerie, beautiful, haunting... My English was very poor back then so I had a bit of a hard time understanding the lyrics and couldn't appreciate their originality and poetry as much as I can now. Nevertheless, I felt connected to these songs, and I still do. I like IAMX and pretty much everything Chris Corner does, but Splinter forever holds a special place in my heart.

The way my heart dropped when I saw this greyed out in my playlists 😭😭
I still ponder what the meaning of the song is, I assume its about the singer having way too high expectations/standards for themselves and expressing that in the term "give me a low five" (since a high five is reserved for truly great accomplishments)
Edit: Nvm, Chris has actually stated the meaning, its about American capitalism

Low five exactly is the state of doing nothing and running for nothing like lifelong extended ZEN that u accept the speed of the river and appreciate the NOTHING state cause it's in higher level than achievements of materialistic egos which also gained no progress, with that bitterness feelings in many ppls about their goals

I remember when I watch this video for the first time. It was in 99, at the 6 am, Brand New on MTV channel. Lately I remember 2001 gig in Rome, the 1st April, Sneaker Pimps was the support band of placebo in Black market music Tour. I never leave these guys in the last 20 years.

Thanks for this! Been wondering lately why you guys never made more music videos for Squaring the Circle. For such a stunning album there is so little to digest in terms of live performances and videos. Would love to see the new vocalist sing live and to see more videos as the album really deserves it. @@BiteTheCurbNow I'd argue that Splinter is by far the best album that Sneaker Pimps produced. Becoming X is a great album, but it doesn't come close to the uniqueness and brilliance of Splinter. Nothing else these guys have done in their other projects has come close either.
