Here are my runs at SGDQ 2023 in case you haven't seen them yet
Baron of Shell - ua-cam.com/video/Ix8rKFQb71c/v-deo.html
Fly Me to the Stars - ua-cam.com/video/2Yga3u2yV-Y/v-deo.html
I wasn't able to catch your run live, so I watched it on your channel instead, but this was an amazing event. Thank you (and thanks for the GDQ staff) for making it happen.
I would just like to say, it was you and Mitch that got me into watching GDQ. I hope one day to be a donator (been homeless and jobless), and maybe even visit the event in person. You are an inspiration. Thank you for the many many years of entertainment and I wish only the best for you! You are awesome.
Same here. Didn’t know bout Gdq until I saw their runs
Don't support money laundering "non-profit" foundations. Just saying, inform yourself where that money truly goes before "donating" it.
Help someone when you can directly. Scams are everywhere people just buy feel goods
funkdoc got me into gdq his castlevania 3 run in particular. yes that was 2013
I hope things get better for you soon. God bless you.
You should come back each year as a voting incentive - Poo will stop around the console during whatever game gets the most donations
The hilarious thing is... this would work... AND allow him to step aside for other up and coming players to have a chance XD
@@chibinecco1981 He could, in fact, "stomp aside"
Don’t let him set up Mitch’s console 😮😂😅
That's a great idea, but that's also a horrible idea.
@@mackado is the verb "stomp" a mario reference now?
You take care of you and your family, Poo. Also, 17:52 for the why.
You the real MVP
o7
Thank you
Doing God's work.
Clicked for the why, stuck around for the gaming
I just hope you can go to GDQ one day in the future with your son.
Maybe doing some coop speedrun or something, that would be dope, or maybe just chillin and enjoy the event together.
Grand POOCub
lol not without strapping on the mask!
Honestly can't complain if you choose this is a good spot to retire, or if you want to just do cameos now and again: you're a top-tier runner, this was the most amazing Super Mario World showcase at a GDQ so far as far as I'm concerned (shout outs to the SMW romhack community for all the masterpieces!) and bowing out with Baron of Shell and Fly Me To The Stars is an amazing way to close off.
Glad that you're not leaving the speedrun community anytime soon, though, you're always entertaining to watch and I'm pretty sure that without you I wouldn't have gained an appreciation for the ROMhacks that I can't play at all, on account of "can't even fly with a cape in vanilla".
If this was your last GDQ then I'm even more glad that I saw you live at AGDQ in Orlando.
You came up near me and I introduced myself to you and you said "I've been on the couch for three hours I gotta take a shit" and that was just the perfect GPB interaction
He's not called Grand POO Bear for nothing. Guy couldn't bear that shit for longer.
Thank you for all you've done for GDQ! Appreciate everything you've done for the Speedrunning community!
Poo, I gotta say, I appreciate you realizing it is time to step down, but I do hope you commentate in the future. You bring an energy to the marathon that GDQ needs.
You don't force the hype. You don't fake it for engagement.
You are the hype. Your fans and the community that flocks around you proves just how wholesome you are.
Even though you (and the Mario block in general) were always the highlight of GDQ for me, this is a very respectable decision.
I still hope to see you on that stage someday. Maybe on the couch, commenting the SMM2 and SMW relay races like you did this year?
By far my favorite part of GDQ is learning about speedrunners I never would have discovered on my own, because they commentate or race with runners I’m already familiar with. Work has always kept me too busy to watch the full event, but it’s been nice being able to watch the events involving you Poo, and through those events this year I learned about Shoujo and have been binging some of her content recently! As long as that aspect remains true of Speedrun Sessions, as long as you keep highlighting really cool speedrunners and content creators through your various collaborative projects like Other Worlds, Speedrun Sessions, your multiplayer Hide and Seek games, anything like that, then I’m alright with ya stepping away from GDQ. Besides, now I’ve got even MORE runners to watch at the next one!
🤣 the GPW3 drop, Barb's Gonna "love" that haha
I assumed it wasn't a thing that was happening. Lol
Barbs been going hard on finishing it recently. It’s gonna be dope.
@@ptitqui any day now!! barbToxic (no but really hes trying his best to release it this year)
dude poo you have to be the most wholesome person on planet earth
Lol
Which is why somebody’s gonna have to come out and say it, I think he belongs in prison.
@@jheychodewtf?
@@jheychode what?
What state are they in that they are still playing pandemic.
you have given us so many amazing moments at gdq, (poostomp will always be my top3 gdq moments) but please even if you don't take the driver seat please considering coming back a lot for commentary, you have such an amazing energy for these event that need the hype to keep the people engaged and donating, I also had a blast when you were commenting the mario maker segment 👍
I've seen the clip of Shojo saying "But you kept it huh?" like half a dozen times and it cracks me up every single time
"Why I'm retiring from Games Done Quick: I'm not. Or maybe I am. I dunno."
gdq needs a complete rebranding tbh. donation messages need a character limit
forever responsible for one(two) of the most iconic moments in gdq history
wait what moments
@@Seren_Moth Poo Stomp is definitely one of them.
@@Seren_MothHe's probably referring to the stomp in the vs SMB3 race against Mitch Flower Power
@@Seren_Moth the stomps babyy!
With runs as good as Baron of Shell and Fly Me to the Stars, it’d be a pretty good way to cement your GDQ legacy.
Maybe in ~15 years, when B could be doing some speedruns of his own, you’ll have a spot on the couch behind him.
Video starts at 17:52.
If this was your last GDQ it was great to share it with you. Thanks for all you've done for mario maker and kaizo in general.
Poo literally was one of the people who brought me enough inspiration to made a game that took 4 years of development, Im not a great consumer of twitch, but his youtube channel always was a good for me, and yes it would be sad not to see him again at the AGDQ, I hope he continues to do great with the Speedrun Sessions, honestly the event feels like you are sharing with friends and that is very valuable.
A big hug Poo
You are such an awesome surge of energy to the event Poo, really hope to see you in future GDQs if you have the time
If it's the last GDQ, I'm ecstatic to have been there to see you live! And I regret not finding that arcade room! So many sick new machines that weren't there last year!
Poo, while I watch you for your Kazio and speed runs, I mainly watch you for your personality. That's something can't be replaced.
the girl with the blue hair said exactly 0 words
i watch gdq speedruns every single night while im falling asleep. ive been watching speedruns almost every night since 2014. listening to the game commentary and watching you all run is so peaceful for me.
Do you have an autism diagnosis?
Why would you listen to modern GDQ when they just curate the content for 8% of the gaming community lol
Alternate title "Why GPW3 needs to be released". 😂😂
1:02 Yo that's me! I didn't know you were behind us when we were playing that lol
Oh it was me recording ;)
@@WeSkillNow Eh, close enough! I'm honored to be shown on screen after the line "You'll see some of the most amazing gaming feats", even though what we were really doing was attempting to try a 2P1C run for the first time lol, we never even finished we couldn't get past Pepper 1

Title: "Why I am retiring from GDQ"
Video: "Maybe I am retiring and maybe I am not"
Nice
Shit like this is one of the reasons you're one of the very few people i actually follow online.
Just keep it real and never change your mindset.
I've forgotten to watch AGDQ the last 3 or so years anyway, so I can relate to the "getting older" part.
(That said, I'm not playing less games because I'm older)
It's like watching the MJ of the speedrun community call it a career after so many years
Hey that's me
You’re the first person I ever watched on Twitch, Poo. Seeing your SGDQ run was another great highlight for the many, many, years I’ve put in to watching you. Well done! ❤👾
I first found you when I was watching GDQ and became a regular twitch viewer because of the good vibes. Love your runs, always the most entertaining and the best energy.
Honestly pretty respectable. Times come and go, and you’re just wanting to pass the torch to someone else who could show their skills to the world to an audience that may otherwise have missed what they can show.
Family is always first and foremost in my eyes, especially as a parent (even though I ain’t one). Don’t force yourself to continue something you don’t have the time to dedicate to fully anymore, especially when you have a lot of different things that can be going on asides from gdq. Good luck on the ventures outside of it.
missed your run live, but saw it. good stuff man. also shout outs to thab lol
edit: finally at the end, I get it man. My kids are older now too, much harder to travel to events like I used to, as usually when I want to travel I'd rather it be my whole family. I still sneak in 1 event a year if I can, but unfortunately for me gaming isn't part of my job, its merely a hobby and I'm happy with what I can get. I wish you the best of everything for your family, keep doing what you do, and I'll keep watching of course
I appreciate your idea of "leaving space" at the top of the card for other people, so they can get some of the benefits that you have...
*But,* I think your involvement in GDQ has helped elevate the event in general, not to mention the specific runs/races you've been involved in.
It might sound silly, but at this point, you're a headlining name, and it's fun seeing you continue to be a part of the event. It creates a sense of continuity, and to me it's fun seeing you interact with the newer runners.
Obviously you should do whatever feels right, but to me you're still bringing value to the event.
You've always been a genuine, candid, transparent guy with a ton of positivity. You have most certainly left your mark on the gaming community as a whole with the great things you've done. Family comes first always, and you'd be making the right decision to prioritize them over a fairly minor part (in the grand scheme of things) of your overall career. Thanks for all the great content over the years and I will always be tuning in for more.
I’ve not ever actually seen you do a GDQ run live, but years ago you were practicing in the practice room and I was just watching (maybe dram? 2018?). You stopped what you were doing, even though I said don’t stop practicing, to say hello and tell me I needed to take a picture with you and to tell me “you should have stopped me to say hi, I’m just like you, I’m just playing video games, say hello”. So happy that years later your career is going great, and you may have retired but I got a good memory.
Love your content. Keep up the amazing work. GPW3 will be too hype to pass up. I can’t wIt to watch you stream it
Barb slacking on the GPW3 launch 😂 (jk, ily barb, take all your time)
If this was your last GDQ, I'll miss seeing you there! Watching your runs got me into the whole kaizo/speedrun/streaming thing, and I just started playing around with doing some runs myself (nothing impressive yet, but we'll see where some time gets me!). Either way you go, looking forward to your future content! Hoping I can catch your speedrun session next time you're in the northeast.
Found you on GDQ and have been more or less lurking your twitch for a while. Always fun to watch no matter what game you try. Totally relate to the limitations when getting a child. You just have other priorities after that. Very nice to give a new generation of speeders the scene
4:56 a tear almost ran down my face
It's a pleasure to help out in the practice room so all of the runners and attendees can be warmed up, relax, and have some fun! Glad we can be the real star of GDQ 😅
Go out like Kobe (60 pts last game, not die)
You will be missed at GDQ, but I'm pretty sure you will have the support of all of us, your fans, in whatever endeavor you take upon!
Good for you. GDQ really fell off as the years went on anyways.
Closed captioning said “Grandpa World 3” - subtle AI prediction on release date?
Sounds like Barb has his work cut out for him!
It was always GP3 to unretire a retired legend.
Is there still a mask mandate at these events? Wild stuff lol...
Thank you for everything Poo! You were may favourite part of GDQ and I have followed you on twitch now so hopefully i can catch these upcoming runs from you
I personally haven't watched much of gdq in the recent years. It's very respectable that you don't want to take the spotlight away from new and less known speedrunners, but I believe the viewers you bring in for attending could make up for it. I know I would be more interessted in watching if more speedrunners I know and love are participating, and it makes me discover new games and speedrunners at the same time which is great about the event. My favourite is the AGDQ2020 Mario maker 2 race between pway my wevel and ok boom boom. I also think you are a really hard worker providing tons of cool content while having a family and other commitments to take care of, so attending events like these must be quite a mental drain. Much love from an old fan.
This is a bit to coerce the creation of GPBW3
“A society grows great when old men plant trees in whose shade they shall never sit.”
Hey dude, we love you. Keep up what you are doing, you are awesome man. You were the 1st speedrunner I've ever followed on yt and twitch, and thanks to that I got introduced to this awesome community. Even if you are not there on the SGDQ or AGDQ, we'll still be with you on your sessions, streams and videos. Love you man, big hug from the other side of the continent.
the Mario runs have gotten kinda stale imo at GDQ, I think it is the right call. Thanks for the entertainment throughout the years !
This didn't age well. He came back
Loved the format of this video, liked the personalization and you walking around. Thanks for showing behind the scenes!
If Barb doesn't finish GPW3 before his twins are born, we definitely aren't seeing Poo run it at GDQ for at least a decade. (source: am father of two)
Take B with you as he gets a bit older. How awesome would a father-son co-op run be at some point in the future? I wonder if he'll have any interest in speedruns. Has anyone done a parent-child run at GDQ before? That would be beyond hype.
Even if you do retire from GDQ you're still doing awesome stuff. The first sub I ever had on Twitch and it couldn't have gone to a better dude.
Solid logic all the way around… though I definitely wouldn’t be upset if you came back with that name drop at the end of the video in the future.
(Also, I had no idea Kaizo Spelunky was run so thanks for reminding me.)
really respectful reason for retiring I wish more people would do what you're doing because yeah you got to give other's the chance to follow in your footsteps. Thanks.
Absolutely agreed with the last second advice. I'd really love watching you back in some future GDQ with the GPW3 speedrun. That would be epic.
Cheers from your friend salsa, salute poo!
Definitely a "Watch to the end" video. 😁
You take care of yourself, alright? It's an honor watching your insane runs
You're an absolute legend and my #1 speedrunner. Wholesome, uplifting, insanely contagious energy, and just overall an amazing person. Truly the people's champ. Whether it's your last GDQ or not, keep the great work up, Poo!
And yes, GPW3. 🙏
Even Poo is begging for it now barb, oof. You can't rush a masterpiece!
it's always amazing to see you on stage, and I'm glad I was able to see every single moment of those runs! You are a funny, fun, and wholesome person Poo, always focus on family and what makes you happy ❤ love ya bro from a long time lurker
I'll admit, I started watching Poo due to GDQ. But not because of a run -- I first saw Poo doing commentary on a run at GDQ six or so years ago, and he did such a great job of explaining what was going on and was just so knowledgeable and nice that I looked him up here on UA-cam after GDQ was over. Then, Poo's tendency to repeat chat's questions to him while playing sold me on following him (this was back before Twitch chat commonly ended up in the UA-cam VOD, so if the streamer only replied to chat, UA-cam subs had a lot of trouble following the conversation).
I can certainly respect the choice to purposely step aside for the next generation of runners but I still hope we get to see you on the couch (and still maybe occasionally behind the controller for really special runs ;)). Thanks for some great years, Poo, and wishes for many more, growing old notwithstanding.
Why are you wearing masks? What year is this from?
This just finished SGDQ
One of the GDQ staff members caught something so they wore masks like the next day I think? They didn't wear masks the whole event.
Ngl poo plus rays is an absolutely GOATED casting duo, hope you guys get to do more commentary!
A long-time sub of your channel, I started watching you as a result of your GDQ runs a long time ago. If this is your last one as a runner, it’s a hell of a one to go out on, but stepping aside for new runners to get discovered is one of the reasons I stay subbed: you pass that fortune forward. But I’m sure none of us will say no to a GPW 3 run by it’s namesake :-)
The more I watch Mario speedruns the less I believe they are real. Absolutely mind blowing skills. Huge love to the community! Thank you for doing this, Poo!
Why are all the comments just people whining about masks 😂
Sad puppies are sad they're not getting their paychecks yet from Putin and Jinping lmao
I like how you're talking about growing older and UA-cam's autocaptions managed to interpret "Grand P:oo World 3" as "grandpa world 3" lol.
We love you Poo, you are a credit to the speedrunning community and we have all been forever impacted by your mad skills, but more importantly your kindness and leadership!
PLEASE at least phone in to commentate! I love hearing your voice and hype over any run, you bring the best energy and knowledge
to be honest youre better off, GDQ has become fucking trash anyways. Speedrun sessions is better #screwGDQ
Oh wow, Minneapolis!
I'm a fan regardless of what you end up doing! Love you poo!
I know you're a wrestling fan, so I'll use the timeless line of "never say never."
You sir are a freaking legend! Anywhere you go and do your stuff will be an amazing place and show, can be a GDQ or your awesome speedrun sessions (bring one to Chile pls 😅) just dont forget how awesome you are, how talented you are, even behind a controller or a mic.... Just keep up the amazing job you are doing
good to see that Pringles is as popular as ever
honestly your commentary is so good that i wish you keep that up!
I found it so odd people were wearing masks there still. I thought maybe one of the commentators was immunocompromised or something, but looked it up and saw they were still mandatory for this event. Pretty wild.
They're completely broken people
GDQ is run by the woke
I swear they did it just to irritate people lol
Poo is that kid in school who forgets to do his homework and yet gets an A.
Well, doesnt stop you from being commentary or on the couch in the future, so why not. better to stop when youre on top, than wait to hit the bottom you know.
You truly made your mark on the scene, well known and respected, still successful, living live to its fullest. You can do whatever you feel like.
Even if you don't attend another GDQ, I still hope to attend one of your Speedrun Sessions in the future. You're one of my top watched streamers (alongside Barb, Xwater and Thab.)
Big ups. Those are as good of reasons that there are. Shining light on other players and letting them shine is a genuinely cool af
That Irish goodbye sounded very Community of you. Channeling your inner Elroy.
The community loves you PooBear. No matter what you you do, we are behind it all the way!
Poo is the kind of dude where you first meet him and think he’s gonna try and steal your girl. Then you get to know him and learn he’s gonna try and steal your mom. Then you really get to know him, and you learn he’s a literal teddy bear who does amazing things for charity and the community.
Personally I hope Speedrun Sessions someday gets bigger - Sessions is an amazing feel that I've never gotten from GDQ.
Hey poo. You put up some sick runs this year. I remember when Carl released fly me to the Stars, I never expected anybody to speedrun it during a live event much less a GDQ; but hell you did it despite being out of practice. By the way where was Carl? You said during the run that he was sleeping (I assume that was a joke) but was he even at the event? Even if you do retire, I think you can hard your head up high with your GDQ records. You've done so many amazing runs over the years, and this last year was a banger; anybody would be proud to go out like that.
Can someone explain why the term "fan game" has to be used now instead of mod or rom hack?
