I actually really like this one, the monochromatic makes it look like a hi-tech tool.

I'm with the wife!!!!! To me, it just shouts FUN, yet has a clean, neat look, and it looks quite different compared to other Casios. I'm getting the Green(ish) one.
When i was a young man of 8 or 9, I saved up for weeks and bought a casio game watch. That one got nicked. I'd be interested to see Casio re-release some of those old game watches again.
Bought one, don’t regret it, I love the screen and while the strap looks plain it’s actually really comfy. I’ve been wearing it for the last couple of days. There loads of features and a couple of nice quirks, like how the timer uses the date window to countdown tenths of a second or rotating the time zones when you’re in timekeeping mode. I can see myself buying another colour to be honest.

As far as the backlight goes, I prefer the orange led to anything else, but my main gripe with it is that all too often there is a single led as opposed to the dual led which is perfect for most casio models.

Mate, as a fellow Casiophile I have to say this one is good at half the RRP. I had one delivered two days ago and I really like it. Walmart being an authorized dealer had it from Texas to Los Angeles in two days with Sunday delivery. I think the increased RRP is due to the bio resin. The band is so soft and comfortable. Basic Casio resin breaks me out in the Summer and this doesn't. When the hype dies down this one is MEGA!
I don’t like the fact you have to turn this watch at an angle to see it clear my friend. The band is more simple than an F91W it’s a watch I gave away:(

@@THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR they have the new tech. They have the STN display technology which they use in full metal offerings. I think it is a sign of cutting corners in a place they didn't in the past. Cheap straps and resin they have done for years, I think some accountant has an epiphany to somehow save cost on the crystals used in the display 🤦🏽♂️

I really like this one - I’ve been wearing mine for the last couple of days (mixing it up with the Royale) and I really like the look of it. Agree that it’s not a vintage Casio look - but I think they’ve done a good job of creating a modern, clean look. I’ll just switch for the F91W when I’m playing Sonic and listening to Chesney Hawkes 😂
anybody else who purchased same model can comment /advise. the LCD screen digits seems to be flickering all the time??? is this only this piece or then entire model watches are all like this ??? oh shit!!???
I have to agree with the points in the review Russel. That fun factor is absent that would have been so easy to fix. It looks like it's designed for the tadpoles of life, the younglings of the species, you know, those that require a learning aid to tell the time without colours on the dial to distract them. After all early learning training is everything as the world has returned to analogue dials this could be vital. I'll quietly admit to liking it though but maybe not enough to make a purchase, my F-91w and calculator watches along with many others cover this already (but it's not always stopped me getting another Casio before).
I must admit, I'm on your wife's side, although I like my colorful watches, this one is kind of elegant (reminds me a little of my FS-00), especially considering the price segment, and broadening the fan base is not a bad thing at all. Let same Whipper Snappers in, we'll show 'em 😄!
All things considered, I know it loses the old school color pops - but for me personally, this works. The retro modern monochrome styling is definitely more my thing despite being an 80s baby - my own F91 of choice is the black and grey. That said, having seen these on the reddit and other places, I hadn't realized the strap was that long... dang. If I snag one of these I'll likely do a strap swap.
The lifestyle colours of the 85 version could have been integrated into the new version for true retro feel and look. Casio missed a trick but 30 quid is not bad for the new one
Casio has a lot of credit with me. They are absolutely allowed to make a mistake here and there. I guess its love
my favorite Casio watch was the a500 both gold and silver as it was a more compact Casio royal (same features), but when this came out this instantly became my favorite, its retro/modern/minimalistic lightweight , and no worry about the casting fading and to top it off I wear silicone rings and I can match each of the 5 colors, its perfect for me! I have the off white version and I love it! I hope they release more color options maybe some with a negative screen.
I had one of those PHYS watches with those cool buttons and that little running man! Oh the memories! And the Skmei Royale also has a very similar rotating animation but for less than a tenner!
I bought the watch yesterday online and saw this video now. He made fair points overall that I couldn't recognize just from looking at all the Casio subreddit posts. The watch stays in my collection but an A168 replacement it is definitely not.
"I'm gonna have to go ahead and sort of disagree with you", Russ. I'm the same age as you and I love it. I'm waiting for some of the other colors to come back into stock. Maybe Vario will release a strap for it too!

Thank you for addressing the screen visibility problem. This is my favorite digital watch and honestly, it's a shame that it sometimes can be hard to see. However, you can look straight (perpendicular) into the screen and get good visibility if the light source comes from a specific angle. Try using the mobile phone flashlight and adjust the angle of the light - change the angle and you will see that visibility changes too. I love your channel :)
Great review and agreed it does look like a budget version of a Casio. I like the module, if it was in a more chunky case with a separate face plate, AE-1200 style, it could look good 👍
This really needed to be metal and with better light. If it had looked more like 0:31 I would have bought several immediately

I've wanted this since it was announced and just seen it for 27 quid on amazon so bought one. I can clearly see what you mean about the display legibility it's quite clear in your video.
I love the sterile look but having a splash of colors would look awesome. Keep up the good work

I've seen everyone on reddit going nuts for it, the watch being sold out constantly while it did absolutely nothing for me. Now seing the old one with all the reds and blues on it, THIS i would buy. I guess this vid explains my impressions better than i could explain myself👍
Your criticism is certainly valid. I like the plain look of the watch. I'm happy that Casio didn't decide to make it with a negative display. I have a CA53WF that comes with a negative display, I'm struggling to read the time even in broad daylight. I should have bought the CA53W-1 instead.
You can try to buy damaged/weared CA53W-1 and swap module.

I really liked the look of these when they were first announced and very nearly impulse bought it but I agree, this is a bit of a beige minimalist take on an AE20W reinterpretation.
Where are the signature Casio touches of colour!? Plus that screen seems like it’s out of phase or something. Casio got close with these but not quite close enough for me unfortunately.

I picked up the black and grey models and I don't mind either one, honestly. I've looked at various vintage Twin-Graph models for a few years, and there was no way I would pay $100
or higher for those often scuffed to hell relics from the 80s. These new versions offer a reasonable compromise, with a few minor letdowns. This is a step in the right direction for Casio. If they sharpen up the display, put this module into a stainless steel case with sapphire on top, and add a better backlight they'd have an absolute winner.
They have a winner now. Sold out all over the place.

Makes me want to mod it with reverse screen. It is so close to a "black out" design. I think it is better to wait to see if they will bring an other version. Personally, I have a really small collection. Since I discovered the combo feature of tough solar and multi-band 6, I get annoyed when my watch is not perfectly in sync with my phone. In the vintage re imagining category, I would love to see a royal with better screen and this combo features.
i like how simple less-messy without un-necessary text on it.
wish casio use a better crispier display tech with a little-bit high contras in it
and of course with EL and stainless-steel variant.

Always wanted an lcd analog screen like the Seiko in the Bond movie, a bit like the worldtimer but bigger.

I snagged a gray LF20W on Walmart. I like it a lot. I keep looking at it throughout the day appreciating the analog with the digital always in sync.
This watch just has IMHO the cool, vibe look. I don't need color. Monochromatic works just fine for me.

I see where you’re coming from, Russ. I still wouldn’t mind picking one up as a curiosity. It’s so close the Casio I wore in the 80’s but not quite. Do you remember the AE-9W? I loved that watch. So many memories of a carefree time, growing up in the 80’s. It was great! Marcus.

I’m with you Russ. The multi colored graphics on the case and band are my favorite parts of the old twin graph. Without them it looks a little too sterile and generic to me. Casio add back the retro color bits and it will be an insta-buy for me.
honestly I quite like it, most casios are just too busy for me. I just wish it had the electro lume thing and the seconds hand was either smaller or not present on the analog display because sometimes it makes the hands harder to read

Just got on in grey, and wish I had gone for black. I don't so much mind the lack of color, but a little (and I mean a little) more size would be much better.
I used to have the original as a kid. Loved it. Just got mine... yes a little plan, but I like it..... so small though....I must have got bigger lol
I've got the same faded problem on the digital numbers on my Rangeman.
This watch has a lot of potential but I think they should've spent a little more on the design just like you've mentioned in your video. I really love the electrolume on the Casio a168 and I really wish that was the Casio standard backlight instead of the amber.

I got mine today, I've got to say I like it but there are issues as you say,splash of colour would be nice and the strap is plain but is very comfortable although as you said the lug issue 🤔🤷 .

I just bought this model brand new.
The major complain about the LF20 for me is the light as you say, it would be better an electroluminescence or a proper white LED.
I think that the module is super complete for the price. My gold A100WE was lot more expensive and it has very simple functions and no 24hr mode which I think is a crime!!
I definitely agree here, I'm really happy they came out with this "reissue" of the twingraph but it's just not quite there for me, I think what made the twingraph so nice is that very retro splash of color it had, I also don't like that they fattened up the the seconds dial in the top right. I still think it's nice enough for me to want to buy, but it's just not the twingraph successor that I had hoped it would be.

It's minimalistic like the A1000MA. People love the retro charm of the F-91W, even if the fashion police say no. I noticed the display on my A168 has a much better contrast over the AE-1000W (which I guess has a similar screen to this). The A168 also has that turquoise backlight which is so much better than the vague orange light. If they put that higher contrast screen, backlight, combined with the retro screen decals of the AE-20, I would buy that in a heartbeat. My A168 is fairly minimal, but because of the metal strap and gold colour that works. I think with black resin, unless you have fun and make it colourful or chunky, it looks meh...

I bought a grey version. I was disappointed by the fading of the screen when you look at it straight on. I do like being able to read the clock, which I can't do on my Casino Royale!
The fading of the screen and light is a huge letdown. I don't mind the design as long as they don't stop with just these. They have all different G shock colors, including all black. But I doubt this collection will grow as large as that.
What do I have to do to convince Casio to make an all steel A168?
Should I try smoke signals? Sky writing? Carrier pigeon?

to bring back a retro watch, I would like to see some rarer types like their surf timer for example.
I just got this watch and really like it. My only issue, is that it could have been a little bigger. I find it clear to read. It has a good LED. The little sonar at the top right adds a little character. As for the minimalist look, I am beginning to realize Casio may have responded to many collectors who claim Casio clutters the case and dial with too much advertising and graphics, as you see on many of their other watches. I've seen more than a number of mod videos where people went so far as to remove the graphics and text for a more minimalist look. Casio took a different approach here, and I am ok with that.
A missed opportunity to have fitted this with a MIP display. 100m of water resistance and a glass face wouldn’t have been too much to ask either. That would justify a modest price increase and make for a much more substantial watch. A luxury full metal model with tough solar and multiband 6 would probably fly off the shelves. The plain stealth looks are not the problem so much as the lack of any additional features that make this a watch worth buying over the many other watches at this price point.
My similar looking Timex may have cost alot more but i think it looks alot better too. 2 empty slots in my Digitals case...one of these will not be filling one of those slots.

I honestly like that the watch is a bit plainer. I know it looses some of it's 80s charm. But I prefer a more versatile look.

I agree! Colours and fonts were always an important part of legendary Casio look and design. This watch could be much better, if Casio decided to stay as close to the original design as possible and adds some other colour schemes as well.
Reminds me of a Timex all steel all digital same ana digi display...
I would love to get one and put some color filters to add some character to it. The backlight is disappointing, though. Why can't they add whatever backlight they use with the AE-1200?

Hi Russ, have you checked out the "A120WEST-1A"? Supposedly it was designed in cooperation with Netflix and has just that poppin' retro design and colors you are looking for.
I actually like it, although, since I have not worn it, I can’t speak for the screen looking off or not. I purchased the GW5000U precisely because of it’s lack of colors. I think you might be fond of that one, no? Anyway, what I would really K- ill 4 is the 1984 AE11w that I actually owned when I was just a young lad. I really miss that one. Don’t know what ever happened to it 😢

I recently got myself the "ladies version" (well I think they are unisex anyway and I do have a small wrist 😅) of the 5600 Midnight Fog Series from Casio. What do you think about them? I really love the colors and the half metall design which is not completly polished like in the silver version which was the first one in this metal design size class. It is this one here just to give you the correct "name" GM-S5600MF-6ER
It has been in my shopping list, but did not pull the trigger, as I just feel something is not right. Could not tell until I saw your video! Yes the retro vibes is missing . Maybe the recent A120 is a better release. Btw, I will get the A700 - a must I think.
spot on, where is the lumi light? the green blue and red accents, this is the plain jane of the family, they really got lazy with this one.
Is this only on camera or does the screen really has that pulsating behavior? Together with weak looking digits, this really would bother me. Got me a classic AQ-230 recently and I'm happy with it, just like in those days.
It doesn’t happen on many of my Casios but it doesn’t seem to like the 50 frames per second. Fine in the naked eye .
Wish casio had more analog/digitals like this and the casio royale
