Some things you maybe didn't consider.. After 15 plus hard years at painting, I doubt your body can handle working that many days a year. I make 1k-4k a day. Painting 20 years. If your only making 50-70 hr owning a painting company. You probably should just work for a company making 25 hr without the headache and overhead of owning your own business. You have to be very efficient at painting to make good money in any trade.. Just started a channel will be adding some videos. No sense in marking up paint, just over calculate extra paint so you don't run dry. Focus on getting the job done as efficiently as possible and learning how to charge. I can tell you this, 50-70 an hour is decent for just starting painting.. But not sustainable.. Try painting for 20 or (15 years of) 16 hour days, 6 days a week and tell me what your body can handle after that.. You also have to factor in time for doing bids, getting materials, organizing your set up.. Dealing with clients.. All time consuming, if you are only making 70 an hour give up your business and work for someone else.. Time is the most valuable.. 70 hr minus what actually needs done equals you might make minimum wage owning your own business. Minus the bonus of writing off business expenses.
I'm an entrepreneur and a 2 year old painting business owner and Handyman. I do have a problem with this guy saying he has more experience than anyone dealing with contractor’s. Hmm maybe your subjective opinion isn't the Objective opinion 🤔. I employ people to learn more but not from a narcissistic individual who thinks they have all the answers

Cant wait to get an office running so we can brainstorm how to hit the painting industry HARD. unlike thumbtack or home advisor, there is a missing tech company that needs to be founded. kind of like the UBER of painting. connecting Clients and Subs/Contractors through the app. solely through the trade of Painting. decisions made by client AND contractor reviews for both ends. More on that once I can create a successful painting company and use that to grow bigger and brighter ideas! You make me Strive for bigger things! I appreciate your brain and the facts you spit out for all of us to absorb. The ways of this industry is a bit dated. needs to get a small update (:
my dad charges $32 in san diego california and he travels out of state sometimes 😭 im getting my contractors license and this question peaked my curiosity. thank you explaining. i’ll definitely be adjusting some finances. bc he has 22 years of experience
If I charged $50 a labor hour here for each worker I’d be out of business in a month. Foreign labor in my area has driven prices down big time. You don’t know everything there is to know bud. You don’t every market. Foreign workers are doing it for $14 to $15 an hour cash. New construction they are a $1.50 a square foot cheaper than I am as is. The one and only reason I am able to stay busy is our quality of work is considerably better. The very most I can get is about $25 an hour for each worker. I try and make around $35 to $40 an hours. Many times I get complaining and push back for the prices I charge now. I get beat on price regularly. I am lucky I am tied in with a group of contractors that know my reputation of being reliable and doing quality work.
I work alone bc the clients are hiring me instead of 4 to 5 ppl who they have never seen before and absolutely would not trust if I wasn't there. I gave a potential client my bid yesterday and told if u would like me to work per hour then it would be $55 an hour
I know a lot of painting contractors that never sell there business which is so weird one company that I worked with had so much work they were in the position to reject the clients they lost 7 painters to covid because they didn't want to get vaccinated and the boss was willing to give it to his right hand painter for free which was insane I'm guessing he made a revenue of over 500k a year and if he sold out he'd get over a million for it

word of mouth/referrals are godsend when you dont have enough space in your budget for marketing ads
