I did have to call the police to get a Kirby Rep to leave. The police officer told me that they get calls for Kirby Reps “All the time”. “Never open your front door without knowing who’s there”. Advice to live by.
Amen to that! I joke that I only accept visitors in my home with a 3-5 business day notice, haha. If there was a random knock on the door there's no way in hell I'd open! Hell, I don't even answer the phone if I get a call from an unknown number. If you're not in my contact list I probably don't want to talk to you, and if you haven't arranged a visit I probably don't want to let you into my home.
Paired with 'put in as much or little work as you chose, you determine your success' as if the hook for the scam isn't the sunk cost of time and money.
"Leave now or I'm calling the police, you are no longer welcome here." The supervisor was probably around the corner hoping that the girls would get worn down and buy to get the guy to leave. Kirby literally trains salespeople to push boundaries and they depend on people being too polite to kick them out. It seems genuinely dangerous to me.
That's what I was thinking. I have a toddler so if one of the sales reps were ever to try to shove into my house like I've heard of some of them doing, I would call the police IMMEDIATELY. We have a 0 tolerance policy for intimidation tactics in this house!
We had a similar situation...I don't think it was with a Kirby rep (although I did once make the mistake of letting one into the house). This one was, I believe, a water softener salesperson. The worst part is I invited them BACK to give their pitch to my husband and I. (I think a free something was involved for 'listening to them' which turned out not to be the case if we didn't purchase.) THREE HOURS...most of our evening. At one point they went out to their car to make a call to their supervisor so we could 'discuss.' We debated not letting them back in, but all their stuff was there. It did not matter how many times we said we were quite happy with our current softener system, they persisted. I swear they think that they will wear you down. anyway, we now have a 'no soliciting' sign on our door because I am truly too nice to kick someone out and have bought products/magazines/etc that I don't need because I feel bad for the person. The only downside is that the Boy Scouts think this applies to them during popcorn season as well...
Kirby got one over on my sister and her husband. They are stuck paying a huge monthly payment for a crap vacuum. They also got scammed over $500 on a timeshare. They are hopeless and they believe anything anyone tells them.
I was thinking the same thing! I hope that the more Hannah exposes these tactics, more and more of us will feel confident shutting this nonsense down immediately. It can be hard to override that impulse to just be nice sometimes, but when you know it's a shady ploy, I think it'll be easier.
Hey I’m the Tupperware story writer!! Fun hearing this way older one read out as I am recently finished with my grad program, but still enjoy listening to you while I pipette stuff 🥰 The ice cream sundae bar with no ice cream was literally just like fruit and sprinkles it was SO SAD. My family also consumed SO MUCH VELVEETA and I HATE IT now. The container was also loathsome, it had like a weird drawer thing that went into it too. Much love from me and my two geriatric kitties 💕
I also like tiny stupid things! My first thought was, I probably have one of those Keychains somewhere, and I'd totally send it to a stranger on the internet 🤣
My family also consumed entirely too much Velveeta. We had one of the keepers. As well as the "pickle lift" (as my baby brother called it), a bread saver, the cake keeper (which I still have! It's over 40 years old.), colanders, s&p shakers, so much more! We were living advertisers for the brand. Kinda nostalgic for me.
My family didn't eat much Velveeta, I have always thought that it was so processed it wouldn't need something like a keeper. I am happy I found your comment, that "ice cream" bar was a joke.
the hell? Why not just call it a fruit bar then °-° Edit: what is this Velveeta? My dad was always in MLM's but never with any food xD (like Amway and such)
I get the temptation and I suppose 9 out of ten times you might get away with it with nothing more than a really cross vacuum salesman. Still, often these people can be very aggressive, they have to be to perpetrate the aggressive tactics they use. I don’t think I would take that risk, alone with one of them.
With these Kirby stories, I’m honestly always shocked that people let strangers into their house. Maybe I’m terrible, but that’s an absolute no for me. I watch too much true crime for that.
I’m always surprised also, that people let strangers into their home or, even answer the door to strangers. I don’t open my door. If I don’t know who the person is my ring doorbell can tell me and can send them away.
They get in the door by offering to clean the carpets in one room of your house, most people know it's a sales thing & they think they'll get the free room cleaning without any strings attached - what they don't realize is the sales person has been taught to wear people down till they make the sale
Hi, author of the story here! I would like to believe that if my roommate hadn’t been so heavily medicated at the time that she would have had the sense to say “no thank you,” and shut the door. She’s genuinely SO introverted, so I was shocked when she texted me what was happening. She knew she made a mistake immediately. Had she been more clear-headed, it probably would have looked different. I know for a FACT that she would never let a stranger in the house now though! 😂
@@marguaritetherese3156Sometimes, as a woman, lying is the safer option. Not necessarily speaking about this specific issue (I do think “It’s time for you to go” would have worked here), but there are definitely times when, “I have a boyfriend” is safer than, “I’m not interested.” It’s sad, but it’s reality.
I'm on the second story, and unfortunately, nurses are often some of the worst when it comes to pushing snake oils and fear mongering when it comes to health and wellness. It's incredibly unfortunate because they should be trusted professionals, but they often push claims that are very easy to debunk with trusted research.
My experience with nurses is that there's a huge wide range in their actual science knowledge. I have a bachelor's and master's in different areas of biology but I work as a software developer now. Used to work for a visiting nurse service and I heard so many shockingly ignorant questions and comments from nurses. One of them asked ME if the flu could be treated with antibiotics...like..so concerning. And no, the flu is a virus. I've also known some extremely competent and bright nurses who know how to treat patients better than some of the doctors. We have to remember there are people at the bottom of all professions, which is quite concerning at times. I try not to think about that when I'm flying 😅
I love my mom, who is a nurse, but she has some worrying viewpoints, like being anti-vaxx. She claimed she was tired of getting vaccines and still getting sick, to which I informed her it's not just about prevention but minimizing. She's had Covid two or three times but thankfully hasn't had long Covid. I work customer service over the phone and have had several customers since 2020 inform me of having to be out of work or off their feet for a year or more because Covid just destroyed them. I of course never ask if they were vaccinated, but it sounds like a miserable experience. I don't want my mom spreading misinformation, so I try to correct her when I can.
O my yes! Some of these nurses are on UA-cam and it scares the poop out of me. But I have to say there are amazing nurses as well, including NPs. I guess like every profession there are subpar workers, but it's dangerous in the medical field.
This is purely my guess based on my own experience with the health industry, but I would venture to guess that these nurses who are selling health and wellness products believe that they are to fill a void that they have personally witnessed in healthcare. Modern medicine is wonderful, don't get me wrong, but it absolutely does not have the answers for everyone who needs help. And those who feel like they have been blown off by doctors or are undiagnosed for a long time begin to get desperate for a cure and buy these so-called miracle products. Some nurses may have noticed this lacking area in care and have decided to start selling products that they think may help those left behind. I have been searching for answers for over 3 1/2 years now. Numerous primary care doctors who tell you after a 7.5 minute appointment that you're just depressed when you're not, months long waits for specialists, waiting for tests, waiting for answers only to get none, try something - wait, try something else - wait again ...rinse, repeat. Trust me, makes a person desperate. Again my own guess.
I picture the “compliance” departments of wellness MLMs telling a rep, “Now you know you can’t say that,” and then giving a big wink. Bottom line: if people knew the truth about the products then they wouldn’t sell nearly as well as they do.
Even if people learnt the truth some of them wouldn’t believe it because of how brainwashed they are into thinking that oils cure everything and big pharma wants to shut them down.
I had a Kirby salesman arrive at 5 pm and leave at 2:30 am. He would not leave. We had two small daughters and we put them to bed, I got ready for bed, I even went to bed and my ex husband just completely ignored him and started doing at home office work. He still didn’t leave. He began to get increasingly aggressive as well, insisted on vacuuming our entire home, then trying to guilt us into buying that vacuum. Why my ex didn’t throw him out or call the police I will never understand. It’s one of the worst experiences of my whole life.
Trigger warning, miscarriage. Hannah, my husband left for a deployment last year. We’ve done many, but this is the first we had a loss. I found out I was pregnant the day he left, and due to stress and moving, I lost our baby. During this time, I found your channel. I have watched every single one of your episodes. You have helped me more than you even know. You brought me so many laughs, and you’re so soothing. I got so excited and still do every time you post. You made it easier for me to cope. Now I am in therapy, and my husband comes home Friday to me and our millions of crazy kids we have running around! When we are ready, we will TTC. Thank you so much for all the hard work you put into your videos, and huge congratulations on surpassing 100k, I am SO proud of you! ❤️
I'm sorry for your loss. I've been there, too. Try not to give a reason behind the miscarriage, though. There is no reason. It wasn't your fault! It wasn't moving's fault. It wasn't even stress's fault. They just happen and they suck. Wishing you a happy, healthy, uncomplicated pregnancy in your future!
SAME! It's applicable to so many things beyond just the context in that email, I would genuinely love to have such merch because it's basically how I go through life in general with everything I encounter!
The fact that some MLM reps are just waiting for someone to turn 18 has such a predatory feel. Imagine saying that in any other context, I feel like even the huns themselves would understand how wrong it is.
@melissashiels7838 it's crazy that they expect people to believe they would actually bother to wait until she was 18 if they had half a chance to "shoot their shot" beforehand. They are 100% predators and pretending otherwise. This goes for the huns, too.
Be careful with door to door salesmen coming in your home. I briefly dated a guy who sold magazines and Kirby and he was addicted to pills. He would always ask to use their restroom and rifle through their cabinets for pills and anything else to steal. These people are not vetted in any way and often travel from place to place. They are not safe to be having in your home. I learned the hard way when he robbed me while I was at work and disappeared one day. His favorite to steal pills from was the elderly and disabled as they often have pain medications. It’s very sad. Beware! PS - this wasn’t just him. I met several of his buddies, young men and women, that did the same thing.
You don’t need to be polite to someone who is making you uncomfortable. It’s okay to say you’re not interested and will call the police if they don’t leave. Safety and comfort > politeness
That first kirby story shows how dangerous the job is for the reps, too. If he has stayed that long in the wrong house things could have gotten bad. And if this was in the dead of winter or summer, sitting outside isn't the greatest option, either.
Listen. I wouldn’t care if that Kirby rep didn’t have a ride yet. That person is getting out of my house immediately or I’m calling the cops to remove them. Not my fault you don’t have a ride. That is not the girls in story #1’s issue.
Idk if it's just my anxiety or what, but if my doorbell rings and I'm not expecting anyone I fully sit silently on the floor for five minutes/until I'm sure they're gone. Lol
I used to be like that too! Now I just check who it is and keep doing my thing unbothered. If they try to come in or stay too long I’ll just call the police, try me😂 the more I age the less effs I give 😂
Story 2: That Sensitization sounds extremely similar to Platelet Reactions. If you get a Blood Transfusion- specifically Platelets; it is VERY likely you/anyone may have a serious allergic reaction. Could happen the very first time, or the 20th time, etc. But once you’ve had that reaction, you MUST be pre-medicated if you need another Platelet Transfusion. Source: I’m a cancer survivor who had anaphylaxis after a platelet transfusion and almost died. had to be pre-medicated every time since. (and i had a TON of them.)
just a random sidenote: I love how many of the emails you read include content notes in the beginning. it's a small thing for the writer, and such a great tool for people to make an informed decision whether to listen to that specific story or not.
Hello Hannah! In one video a person said that she use your pleasant voice to go to sleep, but I want to thank you for a diferent reason. English is not my first language and I start to learn less then a year ago, so I apolozige for the mistakes. I just want you know that because you spoke in a so calm tone that was make me undertand a lot without the use of the subtitles. I'm very happy that one of your videos just to pop up on my feed. So thank you for make me improve my english and be far far away for this schemes. Hugs and kisses from Brazil ❤
@@PriyvaaOi, Priscila. Espero que continue na sua jornada de aprender inglês. Só uma coisa. Quando for falar que inglês é divertido você deve usar "fun" e não "funny". "Funny" significa engraçado. 😊 Continue assim.
This video was NOT just interrupted by an ad for an MLM! Oh the irony! It was for beach boss influencers or some crap like that. (Ik this is a late comment but I recently found this channel and it’s great so I’m retroactively binging!)
Please don’t worry about the occasional technical glitch. Your presentation is always professional and your content is top-notch-including the occasional cameo (or voice-over) from Zeke! Your subscribers love your channel: relentless “perfection” is not required or desired.
The second story reminds me of how severe my ocd got for me in high school before I even knew I had ocd. I wouldn’t use soap, threw away all my makeup, only used shea moisture shampoo and conditioner but that shampoo is now causing me reactions because of the essential oils. I also almost stopped brushing my teeth because of fear mongering similar to that story.
I did Kirby after leaving my first abusive husband with my 8 month old. I was told to knock on doors and sweet talk the salesman into the home. Should have been enough to bail, but the guys were nice so I lasted a few weeks. I quit because the owner who enjoyed all the benefits of having other people make him tons of money and knowing that they could not quit was screaming at this kid calling him every vulgar name in the book, I also realized when the reps didn’t make any sales for a while and couldn’t pay their bills he would “lend” them the money and they could repay him out of their paycheck when they had sales. They couldn’t quit because of the contract they had with him and owing him money. A total “company store” situation. I was like nope I’m out.😡
4:35 whoa whoa whoa, What do you mean due to a lack of transportation question mark that is nobody's freaking responsibility except the guy who walked into her house.
@sarahbayla " But Sarah, there's no way he could afford an Uber because he's an MLM and losing money! " Exactly, if he had to just sit outside on the curb, waiting for his ride, That's his problem.
@@sarahbayla Hi! Author of the Kirby story here. We lived in a pretty small town (the university I referenced only has like 2,000 students, so it’s not exactly a “college town”). So at the time, our town literally didn’t have a single Uber or Lyft driver. I don’t remember ever seeing any taxis, either. Obviously in retrospect, we should have had the backbone to send him on his way. But we were 22 and conditioned to be “nice,” so laughing about it was how we coped 🤷♀️
Your content is absolutely bingeable! Makes my work day go faster. I don't gamble; I don't even buy lotto tickets, but I would bet money that the kirby rep's "supervisor" was absolutely stalling to force that rep to take more time to make that sale.
When i was in my first apartment i got roped into buying a kirby i didnt know they were mlm but i haggled the crap out of them and got the vacuum for a reasonable amout. It was still too much but i didnt know any better. Although the vacuum has held up well all these years. Thats the only good thing i have to say
Those essential oil huns are something else. I use EOs to make pillow and room sprays for myself, but when I am making them, or even spraying them, I always make sure my dog is in another room. I also only use them to make things smell pretty, and never buy the kind from MLMs.
Literally what my family did too! My mom would mix a couple of drops with water and diffuse over a candle - but they had to be specific oils even considered safe for that (not MLM) Sometimes I'd see EOs sold in chain grocery stores or even pharmacies (again not MLM ones, just regular EOs) - and I have to say that they always smelled so incredibly potent and harsh that they immediately gave me a slight headache. It's because of them I figured I'm quite sensitive to smells - but even so, the fact that a mere 0.5 second whiff of that can give somebody a headache is kind of alarming and tells you just how potent something as small as a bottle is. I can't believe some people rub it all over their body and ingest this stuff
Hi Hannah, I'm here from Robert Welsh's channel, he mentioned your video in his, & now I can't stop binging your content. I had your vids playing all day while working. I had to comment because the last story unlocked a forgotten memory. I was a young teenager at some naughty sales party that I had literally ZERO business to be at. My first boyfriend's older sister took me because her friend was hosting it. I remember being embarrassed at the content of the party (I was brand new to dating, we had only kissed), & these older ladies were telling me "you're gonna need that" & similar things. I felt pressured to buy, so I bought edible chocolate body paint 😂. I thought I could just eat it, ya know, not use it, but it tasted gross and was thrown out. I'm putting this memory back in the box it came out of lol. Love your vids.
I "won" a Mary Kay party at the bridal store when I bought my wedding dress, and a co-worker threw me a "bridal shower" that ended up being a Pampered Chef party. Yes, very common!
congrats on the 100,000 hannah! i’ve probably watched all your videos atleast three times as i work all nighters through my architecture degree. i’m so glad you’re finally getting the recognition you deserve, always a highlight of my mondays :)!
When I was in beauty college to become an esthetician we often used a few drops of essential oil on clients along with a massage cream for an upper body massage. We were taught NEVER to use essential oils on pregnant women. I went to BC in 2004. I’m not saying that this necessarily caused this sweet lady a miscarriage ; it’s just what we were taught. I am praying for this woman that she finds peace ❤️
Did they ever tell you WHY you shouldn't use it on pregnant women? Like, what exactly happens? I just started using an IPL device for at-home long term hair removal, and the manual said not to use it while pregnant or menstruating (???) which seemed so weird to me, so now I'm really curious about weird things that apparently affect pregnant people for no obvious reason
@KreeZafi I think it's mostly that products aren't tested on pregnant women, and companies are playing it very safe. I know our bodies act weird while we're menstruating - including skin sensitivity and tendency to sunburn, among others - so I wonder if the IPL warning is based on that.
@@KreeZafi My Braun only says, "Do not use if you are pregnant, lactating, as this device has not been tested with these individuals." I've never heard of not being able to use while menstruating. Are you sure your device is legit and from a trustworthy company? Good brands like Tria and Braun don't state this about device safety.
@KreeZafi Ginger is an example of an oil used for cramps and I read once that it specifically was unsafe during that time, something with stimulation, contractions
As an Aromatherapist I'm DISGUSTED AND HORRIFIED by DoTerra and Young Living. This story and the fact that she was told to take strong essential oils internally while pregnant is abhorrent. Lay people SHOULD NOT GIVE HEALTH ADVICE!!! ESPECIALLY in an MLM framework, which is pushy, aggressive and sales-focused rather than health-focused.
There is this weird assumption that because it's natural it's harmless. But if it's really that potent surely you should use it with care?🤷🏼♀️ Plus using it undiluted means you'll use it up quicker and need a new bottle 😉
Thank you so much for talking about them. This one hits home. My formerly favorite aunt got wrapped up in DoTerra and it breaks my heart. She and her sister are like at the top of the pyramid and it’s just gross. She scammed my mom so many times, it was almost impossible to cancel the subscription she signed my mom up for without her knowledge, (oh she also convinced my mom to use MY email once and then took a donation from her without her knowledge) and then, a couple years ago, after not hearing from her for some time, she texted me and I was all excited. Happy that this aunt wanted to talk to me (she’s on my dad’s side and most of them don’t talk to me) and then it turned out she was just trying to sell me oils. Like no thanks, bye. It was really upsetting, like she just doesn’t seem to realize or want to accept how extremely harmful the MLM is. Also, I made the mistake of putting on one of the DoTerra deodorants that were laying around at my mom’s house, because I forgot mine. Well, that deodorant BURNED my skin! and for two weeks I just had a huge red rash on my armpits and then to this day (this was like five months ago), I still have flaky, itchy skin there. like I don’t know what it did to me, but it hurt so much for so long! I hope to see every MLM fall to the fucking ground one day. They destroy families and lives! Appreciate you speaking out on these disgusting, horrific control groups. You’re amazing ❤❤❤
Omg you had a burn?! I mean part of me isn't surprised and then part of me is fully stunned. I'm so sorry thay happened to you and hope you're healing up okay!
I used the doTerra Terra something for an insect repellant because mosquitoes are bad here right now. It worked great but I woke up this morning with eczema all over my arms.
Wow! I knew essential oils could be dangerous, but I didn’t realize how much. I guess it should make sense, since they’re such an extreme concentration of all these natural things. I used to drink a certain stomach soothing tea until one day I couldn’t drink it anymore, it was starting to make my throat swell up. I’d become sensitized to one of the ingredients by drinking so much of it! I can only imagine how much more could occur with an essential oil.
When I was single and living in my own apartment I got a call from Kirby, back in the day when we had to answer phones without knowing who was in the other end. Horrors! Anyhow they happened to call when I had just gotten home from a miserable day at work and I was really grumpy. So I said yes 🤷♀️ He arrived within a half hour and I let him in with all his “luggage”. He was there for about two hours and I wasn’t budging. He vacuumed my drapes to prove how they needed a Kirby, he vacuumed my large modular sofa, cleaned some windows with attachments and on and on. Normally I am shy, terrified to hurt someone’s feelings and couldn’t say no but I was in a very bad mood. He started with charm, got flirty, then got frustrated. He even called out that “if I could afford Waterford crystal (I had a collection of glasses on display) then I could afford the Kirby”. I kept repeating I could not afford it. He finally left but was visibly angry when he left. When the door shut on him my bad mood lifted😂
Where I grew up EVERYONE had a Tupperware engagement party/hens party/kitchen tea (really any pre-wedding party). The whole point was to buy enough stuff for yourself that the bride got credit for her own order. Where I was these women were all moving out for the first time right after the wedding, so the idea was to give her a start on her first kitchen. Later it switched to having a Thermomix party so everyone donates towards the bride buying one (without necessarily buying any products for themselves) as her wedding/engagement gift. I can't tell you how many of these I went since I was 12yo with my mum. Everyone was happy to be there and help the bride out; it was just the culture of my family/friend group. I still have the "shape-o" toy Tupperware key chain I won at one of those parties (when I was a kid my mum had the full size version for us to play with, so it was very nostalgic for me)!
The “I don’t have a ride” Is something the Kirby reps used on us too. It’s a way to guilt people into letting them stay in the house where there’s AC or heat. The Kirby reps absolutely fake not having a ride!
I gotta be honest, hearing anyone unwilling or unable to just say "Hey, I'm not trying to be rude but you need to leave". I've had people from a certain church come to my door, my girls would answer, get stuck answering talking to them. I have little patience and honestly, all you need to do is say "I'm sorry but I'm not interested or inform them which church denomination you are. I then shut the door, giving them no time to pass on pamphlets, books or anything else, otherwise, they will return to ask if you read it, whatever gets them through your door. If someone tries to sell me something, I say "I'm too poor and have no money". Sometimes you have to be a little mean because these people depend on people's kindness answering unwillingness to be rude yet they are fine rudely forcing their way into your home. I don't get visits from anyone except family or friends anymore
Agreed. Telling this rep that they’d buy the vacuum if their other roommate agreed, offering him some of their soup - doesn’t sound like telling him to leave at all.
Exactly. BTW if the church that comes to your door is the Jehovah’s Witnesses you can asked to be put on their do not contact list and they will literally remove your address from the lists they hand out to the people that go out ‘in service’ aka proselytising so they won’t come you door for again.
I always have a cloth face mask ready to put on for when someone unexpected shows up at my door. "Sorry, we're all sick here!" always gets them to go away. 😁
Allergies are something I'm far too familiar with. They can occur at any time, to anyone. You can go half your life without them and then suddenly be deathly allergic to shrimp, milk, whatever. And you can have a mild allergy that's never been bad but the next time you encounter the food/substance, it can turn deadly. You have to be incredibly careful with essential oils. They're condensed--incredibly concentrated.
And how often companies change their recipes, especially with skimpflation where they use cheaper, lower quality ingredients and barely inform buyers. So much random contact dermatitis because of this.
Hello from Australia! The MLM is a toxic framework & my personal experience as a party guest was… interesting! I was invited to a Doterra party and not knowing anyone in a town I just moved to, I went to meet/make some mum friends. In short, there was a room full of great women, glasses of bubbles flowing and we were having a great time. The two oil guru’s started their presentation and basically told everyone in the room that if someone died of cancer it’s because they didn’t use essential oils. These women knew of several people who cured their cancer using oils. They did not read the room or get to know their audience at all. One lovely lady had lost both her mum and sister (very recently) to breast cancer, how she held her shit together while listening to these two women go on to say, and I quote “if someone you know has died from cancer they have no one to blame but themselves”. I was stunned.
Omg the Kirby rep! I used to take care of a very elderly woman and a Kirby rep came out, which was weird because she lived a couple miles out of town on a ranch, but she invited him in and he came in and just started cleaning. Then he started talking about how it works on furniture too. Well tldr for the whole experience but, he vacuumed an antique chair she'd had since 1906 and he DESTROYED it. All the upholstery was just ate up. She got mad and called him pissed she just bought an 800 dollar vacuum only to discover her ruined heirloom and turns he had already cashed (she even called the bank to confirm and he had) the check and said he spent it so he couldn't do anything till the next day. She said screw it I don't want to deal with u ever again and kept the vacuum. :(
My mother in law is a young living employee, not even a rep, but definitely has orthorexia now. She’s always had a complicated relationship with food but it has gotten so much worse.
A Kirby rep came to my door and we had a similar experience, it was a kid straight out of highschool bussed on a van with strangers (FROM ANOTHER CITY!!) and then stranded in our neighborhood an hour away from home. My roommate just got rude to get them out but i just felt sorry for the kid becuase this seemed like a really dangerous situation for the kid
Thank you Elyse! Your editing is greatly appreciated! 😊 I'm glad Hannah is working with an editor--doing it all can get overwhelming, it's great you're able to outsource part of video making!
OMG, why would you just let someone stay in your house? Stand up for yourselves! If you don't want someone in your house, kick them out. It's super easy. This blows my mind. If they refuse, call the police. There is no excuse for this.
I had a vacuum salesperson try to weasel their way into my home once. I answered the door bc there was a middle aged dude and a young woman outside. The guy started out by immediately handing me a bottle of Dawn Dish soap as a 'free gift' (we don't use normal dish soap bc of allergies). Then he started his pitch... and it got to a point where i was so confused on what he was selling (plus, being too nice) i said i wouldn't mind seeing the product (still only with the door cracked. He sent the young woman (18-20?) to go get it, and she hustled off and dragged back this giant vacuum box.... then of course he asked to come in to do a demo, and this is where I finally found my boundaries. "Are you sure? she gets paid just for doing the demo! you don't have to buy!" and it was SO skeezy. Like "hey look at this young woman who is just trying to get by, please help her!" I shut him and all his protests down... then he asked for his dish soap back when they left lol. I hope that poor girl found a better job. I felt so bad for her, and so grossed out by the way he was blatantly using her to drum up sympathy and play on people's politeness. There was an extra level of ick bc he was a middle aged white dude and she was a young black woman. The dynamic was just.. uncomfortable.
The weirdest place I heard an MLM pitch at was a driving course. I went there with my ex-BF, we listened to a guy talking about driving rules, signs, etc. and then his boss came with some books, encyclopedias, and started telling us about the importance of learning history of our country. But luckily my ex was a history nerd and kind of socially awkward person. He started a heated discussion about the definition of "military defeat" with her. Been binge watching these videos and omg I just realized my whole life these MLMs have been all around. Boy do I got a story to tell you. I’ll be submitting my own experiences 🤣
I bought a house 2 years ago and I was not prepared for having to chase off door-to-door salespeople in this day and age. Almost let one weasel into my home once. It’s such an old school scam that I thought people didn’t do it anymore. I expect to start having to shoo them off again soon as the spring weather gets better…
If a Kirby rep came to my house I’d refuse to let them in and call the cops saying “I don’t know if they’re really aggressive door to door salesmen or if they’re casing houses but these people are making me nervous and are refusing to take no as an answer”
Hannah, your language is really good, I didnt feel comfortable watching english videos in the past since my mothertongue is german but you are great! I understand everything so well and can learn a lot! Thank you so much for your content. ❤
Same, the first couple times I was approached by mlm's when I was younger I would just straight up tell them I don't have the self discipline to be a boss babe lol
You can IIRC there's just issues with trespassing vs loitering and criminal intent vs civil issues, etc. I had a neighbor enter my home uninvited, destroy some yard property, fence, etc and we called the cops. They explained some of this and it was very confusing to me so don't quote me exactly. (Eta, document everything!!!)
Related to the DoTerra story. Allergic contact dermatitis can happen with basically anything. I had been using bandaids my whole life and back in 2022, I started having reactions. I’ve tried the overpriced barely sticky ones for sensitive skin but they don’t work. So I just feel like I have to deal with the reaction from regular bandaids.
The meows of Zeke are SO similar to the meows of my cat, I've found myself telling my cat to shut up only to find oud it wasn't in fact my own cat 🤣 great fan of your videos, yet still confused every time I hear meows
Funny thing about that next-to-last story: a friend of mine sold Mary Kay for awhile. I went to her first party, and one of the things her upline used to pitch the opportunity was how not only did she make great money, but that the business provided great insurance, too (so great it even payed for her daughter's out-of-state treatment trip, which in turn enabled her to recruit all the nurses into her downline). Also, for the last writer, there are plenty of online resellers offering Tupperware keychains.
Remembering when I went to a 'opportunity' with Kirby when I was desperate for a job but the language was the mix of appointment and set your own schedule. Those are opposite claims so the bells went off and I had to use the toilet and dipped fast.
I've had contact dermatitis for as long as I remember- never been able to use scented laundry products, had reactions to random body washes, and get bad headaches from most candles, and wool. I've gone to allergists and dermatologists for it because it sucks trying new things and having my skin feel like it's burning. Unfortunately it's not super well researched or understood why or how certain products cause reactions. The only way to deal with it is to avoid anything that causes a reaction.
My husband made the mistake of letting a Kirby salesman into our house years ago. It was awful. He literally just moved in for HOURS, even though we were newly married and explained to him there was NO way we could afford a vacuum that was over $1,000 no matter how amazing it was. We even had company come over and he and his “manager” still didn’t leave! They finally left but the whole ordeal had to be at least 3-4 hours long. I had buried that terrible memory until I started listening to your horror stories…then all the horrific memories came flooding back, lol. My husband and I had a fun time reminiscing about that one. He definitely learned his lesson…never open the door for a salesman, especially if they are selling vacuums!!!
What I learnt as a young first time homeowner, was not to go have a kitchen salesman in, or a double glazing agent and definitely don't waste hours on holiday with time share sales people who promise a free breakfast. NEVER EVER !
I’m a new fan & wanted to say I love how you emphasize that your daughter comes first ❤ You actually work for yourself and on your own time, unlike all the boss babes we discuss. It’s just nice to see ❤
Sadly these MLM's have been around for decades. My parents were in Shaklee and Amway during the early 1960's. In the 70's my mom sold Avon (door-to-door) and we hosted Tupperware, Tiarra Glass Parties, Jewelry parties, etc. I feel like home parties went out of fashion where I live in the late 1990's.
I did have to call the police to get a Kirby Rep to leave. The police officer told me that they get calls for Kirby Reps “All the time”. “Never open your front door without knowing who’s there”. Advice to live by.
Oh dang!
The situation turned from uncomfortable to scary in less than 30 seconds. I think the rep was beyond desperate. Desperate people do desperate things.
@@JakeJake2021omg please write the story out for us I need to hear that
Amen to that!
@@superfacch I second this. Don't leave us hanging!
"You can work from anywhere, anytime!" just means you have to work from everywhere, all of the time.
Paired with 'put in as much or little work as you chose, you determine your success' as if the hook for the scam isn't the sunk cost of time and money.
Exactly 💯
Same in "traditional" sales
"Leave now or I'm calling the police, you are no longer welcome here."
The supervisor was probably around the corner hoping that the girls would get worn down and buy to get the guy to leave.
ITA. After I’d said “no,” once, I’d be calling the police to trespass the sales rep. Get. Lost.
That Kirby salesman DID have a place to go - outside to the curb.
Right? It’s not the homeowner’s responsibility that an uninvited solicitor was stranded.
Yup. Stop raising girls to "be nice." It's OK to be rude to a jerk.
His manager was probably there or nearby the whole time too, lol
Exactly. If he didn't have a ride, it's his problem, not anyone else's.
I did put him on the curb when he came to my house years ago.
"Uncomfortable sales rep stuck in a house with an equally uncomfortable customer" feels like a writing prompt you would find on tumblr
Fruit and sprinkles, huh. You just can't call that an ice cream bar. Wtf.
I am happy I found your comment, that "ice cream" bar was a joke.
the hell? Why not just call it a fruit bar then °-°
Edit: what is this Velveeta? My dad was always in MLM's but never with any food xD (like Amway and such)
I would be very tempted to have the Kirby person vacuum my whole house and then be like "I can't support mlms, please leave".
Right? And I wish someone would film the process of trying to get them to leave. It could be a whole trend. Perfect publicity 😉
The problem is it sometimes takes a police escort to get them to leave 😂
@@tleigh4583we keep a couple “police officers” in our home. Any unwelcome “guests” would quickly leave once we “introduced” them.
I get the temptation and I suppose 9 out of ten times you might get away with it with nothing more than a really cross vacuum salesman. Still, often these people can be very aggressive, they have to be to perpetrate the aggressive tactics they use. I don’t think I would take that risk, alone with one of them.
With over 1000 Horror stories I probably have a better chance at breaking even in an MLM than having mine read. LOL
Still probably higher chance at having your story read tho lmao
That’s funny!
The sheer number of horror stories itself is horrifying.
I had mine read a week after I submitted! I got so lucky

I answer the door for no one! We have a ring doorbell and an away message programmed 😂 No creepers coming to sell anything’s are coming into my house.
Right??? I don't open the door for anyone I don't know, I have 3 small kids and read way too many murder mysteries!
My personal rule: If I think it might be an MLM, it’s probably an MLM.
What is the meaning of MLM?

If someone promises me an ice cream sundae bar and there is no ice cream, I'm throwing hands!😂
right? 100%
It’s 100% ok to lie to a stranger who’s making you uncomfortable, full stop. Also, Hannah, your hair is literally glowing! ❤
Uh oh Hannah, look out, Monat might steal your photos! 😅😂
Like, I understand that you dye and put oil on your hair but that glow still seems like witchcraft to me
It's also 100% OK to know that "No" is a complete sentence. Even "No, thank you" if you must. I learned this far too late in life!
No need to lie, tell him he has to leave.
Once again: it’s ok to be rude to people who are being rude to you. Like, say, refusing to leave your home while trying to sell you a vacuum.
being rude can be learned sometimes hard, but possible to learn in small steps
In my horrible experience with an MLM one of the ladies was a nurse and very anti-vaxx and I remember thinking "why did you even become a nurse?"
The only thing compliance cares about is who is offering sale prices... can't have huns undercutting each other!
New horror stories for my birthday? Hannah you shouldn't have! 😂❤
Happy birthday! :D
Happy birthday!!!
Aw happy birthday Lauren!!
Happy Birthday 🎂
OMG!! Sorry I missed it, but Happy belated Birthday!!! 🎉 🎂🥂
I would TOTALLY buy "living that evidence-based life" merch!
SAME! It's applicable to so many things beyond just the context in that email, I would genuinely love to have such merch because it's basically how I go through life in general with everything I encounter!
Haha, right?
The fact that some MLM reps are just waiting for someone to turn 18 has such a predatory feel. Imagine saying that in any other context, I feel like even the huns themselves would understand how wrong it is.
Right?! It's like the gross dudes who had a countdown for when a child actress turned 18, so they could fantasise about her - super predatory!
You call a friend or an Uber.........no empathy here.
Listen. I wouldn’t care if that Kirby rep didn’t have a ride yet. That person is getting out of my house immediately or I’m calling the cops to remove them. Not my fault you don’t have a ride. That is not the girls in story #1’s issue.
Hear hear. People need to learn to assert themselves, and stop worrying that some stranger is going to think they're mean.
Yes the Kirby rep could probably have called a family member or friend as well to come pick him up as well.
That’s what I was thinking!
Right? People wait outside for buses and trains everyday. He can wait for his sketchy van driving boss outside
Zeke's commentary is always on point!
Omg...I did that once...sat hidden in my kitchen for awhile...then realized that the doorbell I heard was most likely on my tv!😊
Lmao SAME. I never, ever, EVER answer the door unless it’s someone I’m expecting!
Kirby salespeople are like vampires. Whatever you do, don't give them permission to enter your house!
I was cackling at that Kirby story 😂 Probably the funniest story I remember from the channel so far!
Those disks are supposed to go inside the vacuum so you can see exactly what they pull from your carpet- I did Kirby sales for exactly 2 days 🤣

Essential oil huns are like "You rub it on your skin and it makes you live forever"
I worked with a woman who sold DoTerra and the way she talked there was nothing it couldn't cure!!
Please don’t worry about the occasional technical glitch. Your presentation is always professional and your content is top-notch-including the occasional cameo (or voice-over) from Zeke! Your subscribers love your channel: relentless “perfection” is not required or desired.
You are so sensitive and kind, Hannah. Your sensitivity to the Doterra gal who lost her baby was truly lovely and so gentle.
Right??? I am just so confused why he couldn't call an uber or just like figure it out, they do NOT owe an uninvited salesperson hospitality
@sarahbayla " But Sarah, there's no way he could afford an Uber because he's an MLM and losing money! "
Exactly, if he had to just sit outside on the curb, waiting for his ride, That's his problem.
My mom would mix a couple of drops with water and diffuse over a candle - but they had to be specific oils even considered safe for that (not MLM)
Sometimes I'd see EOs sold in chain grocery stores or even pharmacies (again not MLM ones, just regular EOs) - and I have to say that they always smelled so incredibly potent and harsh that they immediately gave me a slight headache.
My understanding (this is going back several years!) was that essential oils are highly concentrated and possibly harmful for pregnant women
@KreeZafi Ginger is an example of an oil used for cramps and I read once that it specifically was unsafe during that time, something with stimulation, contractions
Hey Hannah the story you did about the wedding was a story about Mary K huns because I specifically remember the pink Cadillacs in the parking lot.
Ah yes!! Thank you for reminding me!

I haven’t even seen the Tupperware keychain but I can picture it in my head and I need it
As an Aromatherapist I'm DISGUSTED AND HORRIFIED by DoTerra and Young Living.
IANAD, but I've had horrible rashes from "natural" deodorants, and most of them contain baking soda. I have to wear gloves if I clean with it!
The only deodorant I use is Lume .Its awesome.
So I said yes 🤷♀️
He arrived within a half hour and I let him in with all his “luggage”.
The “I don’t have a ride”
Is something the Kirby reps used on us too. It’s a way to guilt people into letting them stay in the house where there’s AC or heat.
The Kirby reps absolutely fake not having a ride!
The oil "cults" 🙄 sigh. Don't even get me started on those guys how they act like the oils are an answer for every health issue.
oh good it's time for hannah to read us bedtime stories !! my fave video series (besides the new influencer culture series lol !!)
Story 1 was way better than an episode of Friends! I hope that salesman got the F out of that company ASAP.
Truly it's not even mean, it's just direct. If you know you want nothing to do with the product it's actually kind not to waste their time.
@@gasparinhaDude, that's genius. 😲
The Kirby vacuum guy could’ve called a taxi🙄
I'm addicted to your videos! I also remember those miniature tupperware keychains .
My mother in law is a young living employee, not even a rep, but definitely has orthorexia now. She’s always had a complicated relationship with food but it has gotten so much worse.
"I'm always accepting new submissions" a quote from an MLM queen, Hanaaah!!!!!
She couldn't finish her speech and hasn't sold one book or subscription she was going to. They argued untill the time of the lesson was over
Been binge watching these videos and omg I just realized my whole life these MLMs have been all around.
Wow! You just got 100K yesterday and now 6K more! So happy for you! 🎉
If a Kirby rep came to my house I’d refuse to let them in and call the cops saying “I don’t know if they’re really aggressive door to door salesmen or if they’re casing houses but these people are making me nervous and are refusing to take no as an answer”
hahah!!!! when you realised the out of focus and said IF YOU'RE WATHING!!! I had a HUGE laugh!!!! lol
Hannah, your language is really good, I didnt feel comfortable watching english videos in the past since my mothertongue is german but you are great! I understand everything so well and can learn a lot! Thank you so much for your content. ❤
Boy am i glad that my ADHD causes me to have very low motivation so i never felt the need to get sucked into trends, saves me from MLMs alot
Same, the first couple times I was approached by mlm's when I was younger I would just straight up tell them I don't have the self discipline to be a boss babe lol
Side note, your skin looks AMAZING!!! Being a mom looks great on you ☺️
Same thing with allergies, one can be eating a specific food their entire life and the. one day develop an allergy to it.
Are you seriously telling me you cannot kick out a stranger?
I love the meows… they sound just like my beloved cat that has passed a decade ago. Brings joy to my heart. 💕
I could see hosting a Tupperware party for a bridal shower and having a list of items you want as a gift.
Remembering when I went to a 'opportunity' with Kirby when I was desperate for a job but the language was the mix of appointment and set your own schedule. Those are opposite claims so the bells went off and I had to use the toilet and dipped fast.
Someone threw me a Pampered Chef bridal shower and I still use all of my "gifts" to this day 😂
I've had contact dermatitis for as long as I remember- never been able to use scented laundry products, had reactions to random body washes, and get bad headaches from most candles, and wool.
A cat called Seamus, that is adorable! 😂
What I learnt as a young first time homeowner, was not to go have a kitchen salesman in, or a double glazing agent and definitely don't waste hours on holiday with time share sales people who promise a free breakfast.
NEVER EVER !
I would be calling the police to come get them out of my house. That’s ridiculous!
YAY!!! BACK TO HORROR STORIES!!!! 😍 THANK YOU, HANNAH!
With that Kirby rep, wouldn’t be surprised if their supervisor told him to stay and wait for the nursing student to get home to make that sale!!!
A 1500 DOLLAR VACUUM?!?!? Does it make breakfast for you? Babysit your kids??? Who on earth spends that much on a vacuum???
Me… 😮 (not from an mlm at least). We were REALLY mad at our old vacuum 😅 Oh well. It does kick ass - although for the price, that should be literal
Maybe a Miele, but not a brand sold door to door.
I’m a new fan & wanted to say I love how you emphasize that your daughter comes first ❤
You actually work for yourself and on your own time, unlike all the boss babes we discuss. It’s just nice to see ❤
I'll never understand people who allow strangers to stay at their home like have some backbone it's your house
Not to mention many essential oils are fatal to your pets.
Binged all your horror stories last two weeks while working. Wow I love these!!
The Kirby rep who came to our house was happy to sit down to dinner with the family when his supervisor didn’t come back in time 🙃
