    I got 1/4” rope and it’s way smaller then what’s it the video. What’s size was actually in the video?

    For the thread 🧵 you could use a top stitching thread... it’s a firmer thread and won’t snap

    Is it a 2" swivel hook?

    Do you know the actual pulling strain on that rope splice join? What's stopping it from pulling apart after a while? The only thing securing it really is paper tape? Personally I'd have used a crimping ferrule For extra security, nice lead though

    Just for the record the link to the 1/4 rope is incorrect. I ordered it and its way too small to make a collar or leash. The actual size is way more expensive like 10x so i wish i hadnt ordered all the other materials for it to end up so expensive! Just a heads up to anyone else thinking of doing this!

    • @JennyDavis
      @JennyDavis  6 років тому +2

      The width was too small or the length? Remember on that link it is per foot so you would need to put in however many feet you want as the quantity, I usually do 6. Also, 1/4", 3/8", or 1/2" are all sizes that could be used to make these leashes, I've used them all. It depends on personal preference and how thick you want it. I love thinner leashes for my smaller dog and thicker ones for my bigger one. All three that I mentioned are offered through the link (or see them here: www.knotandrope.com/store/pc/3-Strand-Cotton-c58.htm) and are within a few cents of each other per foot. I don't know what size you are looking at that's 10x the price but it shouldn't be. Also check with the company to see if they sent the correct size because I've had that happen to me before where they sent the wrong size!

    the cotton rope is really hard to separate to do a eye splice. how did you get it loosened up?

    • @JennyDavis
      @JennyDavis  7 років тому +2

      Toni deeds twist the rope the opposite way to loosen it. So if the rope is twisted going right originally, twist it to the left and it should open up enough to do the splice.

    I have a big really strong dog who does not take no for an answer but he's my baby after all! I just wanted to know if this leash will un ravel when my dog is pulling on the leash, is it strong enough for my dog. Please help, thanks.

      Cactus_Clips I'd look at horse lead ropes, sled dog gear, and/or paracord leashes. Also dog training. XD (Don't worry, I had the same issue with one of mine!)

      LIV&CREATE u dont need a strong lead. you need to train him because he could get himself hurt.

      He's right.
      To be perfectly honest, I advocate for the usage of aversives under a certified professional (prongs, chokes, e-collars) for the worst of dogs. I shunned these tools and used nice methods, and ended up with a dog who bit me and my family, attacked another dog, was virtually impossible to walk, ate things dangerous to her health. It wasn't a happy life for her or anyone else, and she wouldn't respond no matter how many treats, pets, haltis, harnesses, and nice words (or scoldings) you gave her. She needed some structure. I got a professional dog trainer for her and spent the money on the proper tools and training. She's turning out to be a great dog now, and is far happier and more free. Not having to choke herself, be stressed all the time, or spend her life secluded or going without walks. She can go for a nice, calm walk that's enjoyable for the whole family (other dogs included), and I even mush her now. I respect people's opinions on dog training, but it's definitely something to look into.
      Sorry for the rant. Haha. Figured it might pique someone's interest if they're having issues with their dog. Mine was a rescue and came with a lot of issues. I take full responsibility for her behavior, but I don't really wish to hear how abusive I am for using an e-collar or how I should have put her down long ago.

      Firstly, my italian mastiff is still growing, he's around 50kg at the minute, i make all my own leads in a similar method to this, i buy like 30m spools of boat anchor rope a time, but instead of leather i use rubber shrink wrap tubing, the stuff you run a hairdryer or paint stripper over. I've made various lengths, from just handle and end for carabiner to half metre, 1 metre, 1.5 ect, made a 5 metre as well for when he's staked out if we go anywhere (the rest of the time he's free roaming, but when at someones house or out camping it's useful to have. After making my own i'll never buy one again, may even consider selling them (hmmm???) My problem with dog trainers is, they cost a ton of money, most of the stuff you can learn online, it's not about telling your dog to sit, or stay, it's about learning YOUR dogs behavior, not just what the 'trainer' thinks he knows because reasons. Also, i spend my life telling miniature dog owners carrying their dogs about like a bloody accessory, put the damn thing on the ground, it's a dog, not a handbag. Most mini dog bites occur when the owner is holding it, the dog feels it's on the same level and either fear bites or is a little tyrant allowed to do the hell it pleases. Floor is where ALL dogs belong regardless of size. If you work, but have lots of time were you sit about watching films/series ect, then if you have dogs, turn the t.v off and just roll around with your pooch, on the carpet, sofa, wherever. Learn where the dog likes to be touched and not touched, most owners spend at least a decade together with their pooch, it's good to know everything that makes them tick, helps with the 'training'. Food is your friend with everything, small biscuits instead of larger treats, economical, and less time eating more time learning. All the prong collars, e collars ect, designed to correct your dog is bull, it's just laziness on the owners part. I have 3 dogs, a pit x lab x whippet, a working hunting line german shorthair pointer and a traditional cane corso, again working line all 3 have drive and determination, but all 3 are controlled with a look, or a hand wave (use hand motions over speech if you can, a flick down of the hand to signal sit flick up to stand). Sorry for the rant, 10 minutes typing is 2 minutes speaking and all that jazz.

    Would the tape under the leather last through washing and normal wear and tear? or do you absolutely need to use a rope clamp for it to last? I would love to just use the tape to save money but I'm worried it wont last.

    • @JennyDavis
      @JennyDavis  6 років тому +1

      You could do just tape since all the tape is doing is holding the frayed pieces down, the eye splice (knot) is what is really keeping it together. The tape won't last forever but you can just changed it out if it gets too dirty or loses stickiness.
