I am snuggled in bed, recovering from the flu, curled up with my Doggo, watching the Party Duke Show.. This is brilliant! I never saw these shows before. My Parents weren't even born when these shows were popular. Exceedingly smart, television.. Thank You, for sharing! 😽👍
I just discovered this show for myself and it has changed my life, I wish I could have met the cast back in 1963, I was born in the wrong decade 1999 😢
@@josesalas430 l discovered *THE PATTY DUKE SHOW* in 1971, even though l was born 12 years before. I fell in love with the "Cathy" character, and didn't want to believe the two were played by the same person.
From watching this series a few times, what struck me about it was that it wasn't silly, and as others here commented: occasionally the endings were both happy and sad...and that's what life is really like, isn't it.
It's hard to believe any kid traded christmas presents. We only got one 8 dollar limit when we were old enough to understand money and as teenagers we were old enough to understand they couldnt afford them so we didnt get a gift anymore.
I remember watching this as a kid; Christmas episodes always broke my heart because we never celebrated one Christmas or any other holiday or birthday in my childhood home. But while I was watching, I felt happy for the characters in the show; it was my way of escaping the grim atmosphere of our home.
That woman sitting on the bench in the airport kept looking at Cathy. Usually extras in TV shows and movies don't look at the stars. Guess she was bored just sitting there.
Patty Duke (may she rest in peace) was an astonishingly gifted and humble actor. In her memoir, CALL ME ANNA, she downplays her great gifts at every opportunity. She calls it "luck." Some luck. I wish she'd lived to work with Streep or Lange.
@@maxalberts2003 She had lots of chances, about 40 years worth, since Streep and Lange were working in the 1970s and Patty Duke died in 2016. It just didn't happen. She did work with Anne Bancroft and Susan Hayward.
Sid Ramin was the musical composer for The Patty Duke Show. He also composed, "Music to Watch Girls By," released by, The Bob Crewe Generation and made a hit by Andy Williams. If you listen to that instrumental, you will note the very same slick style on display. Very talented man, he won an Academy Award for his work helping to score the movie, "West Side Story." Guy was a genius!
@@warholscircus Thanks for the reply! I just noticed it now. I had been familiar with Sid Ramin's music because of the examples you cited. I even have a copy of that Bob Crewe LP that I picked up back in the '70s.
That was for that particular job. Remember there are paid holidays/then psid sick days. (Sick Day policy is use them or lose them so people play sick at the end of the year if not used to 'use' them) Plus floating holidays. Usually a 2 week PAID vacation.
Technically, J.R. thought Martin had quit, if I remember correctly. Though he might also have been fired as most sitcom bosses are wont to do. I would have to re-watch that episode. BTW, another "Technicality" is that in the pilot episode Martin was played by an entirely different person...so J.R. could sort of claim he never fired THIS Martin.
My family did that once, when I was quite young. On that occasion I flat out refused to go with my family to visit my father's foster mother. Of course, that was way back before laws would have been enforced about child endangerment.
@@PuffKitty That boy was not John Pleshette, who was much older than that boy. John Pleshette played a character named Pete on a different episode of the Patty Duke Show titled "Simon Says". Trivia fact: John Pleshette was Suzanne Pleshette's cousin.
Where would they find an actor that looked like William Schallert? The brothers were twins so it makes sense the same actor plays both characters. What are you, brain dead?
Great episode 😊
Cathy and her relationship with her father is so adorable.
Great show Patty Duke shares a birthday with my mom on 12/14
So what do you want, a medal?

Such a great show. R I P Patty Duke 😢 💔 😔 🙏 such a great actress. You will always be in my heart ❤. I miss you very much you died to soon. 😥😥😢😢😓😓😭😭
Even though this is the 60's, the filming was superb! One would think that Patty Duke really is twins!
My favorite show, and I just discovered it a week ago!
@ jose salas- Mine is Captain Kangaroo... And I only discovered it this morning!!!
I just discovered this (AND I Love Lucy) a few days ago

Amazingly, my older sisters are like Patty and Kathy. One is the family rebel, and the other travelled Europe and is very smart and sensible.

Very clever doing a take on publisher Bennett Cerf when they depicted the character Bennett Blake--eye glasses and all.
I was thinking the same thing!
Who gives a kid a flamethrower for Christmas?

22:52, Yes, it was that easy to get onboard an airliner back in the day.
I know Patty Duke lived a full life, but it's still sad that she's gone.

The ending of this episode was happy and sad at the same time.
Patty: "That old man Castle has a moat around him."

why is it that all the lovely ladies grow older and then leave us?

John Pleshette, apparently
