Dear Mr Hunt, thank you for posting the Phyllis series. Enjoyed every episode! Seeing the late Cloris Leachman and so many veteran actors like Henry Jones & Judith Lowery is a delight! Many thanks!
A really great Xmas episode... MTM Enterprises had a lot of good ones. A few on Mary, at least a few on the Bob Newhart Show (plus a great T-Day one), and this gem of a one. I wish they could've made Phyllis last one more season...moving her to the city Supervisors' office was a good move. But the ratings dropped off. Then Judith Lowry and Burt Mustin died suddenly. Interestingly, Jane Rose died only a couple years after Phyllis ended but I think Henry Jones lived about 22 more years and was super old when he died as I remember.
If I recall correctly, the MTM show only had two Christmas episodes - and one wasn't really a Christmas one; it just featured Sue Ann taping her Christmas show a month early. In any event, I also wish Phyllis would have continued but as you said, ratings were dropping and they were losing cast members. It was time to pull the plug.
Funny that she mentioned Paul Lynde. Paul was Cloris' theater classmate at Northwestern University. She was the one who encouraged him to lose weight (he was overweight at the time) if he wanted to pursue an acting career.
Phyllis was usually descibed as ditsy, however she had dignity explaining the meaning of Christmas to her boss. However I think her daughter should have stayed with her.
The show needed to drop Jonathan and Audrey. They were just too silly. I would have kept Mother Dexter (Jonathan and Audrey would be on a long trip), sadly, Judith Lowry die before the show was over. I would have focused on Phyllis living in SF with Bess and her husband’s child.

I remember watching this when it originally aired. It was kind of sad, because Judith Lowry had already passed.
This is a similar Christmas storyline when Leachman was on Facts of Life.
And this episode had Mr. Bradley and Beverly Ann.

Jesus Christ is the reason for the Christmas Season. Jesus loves 💝You 💕❤️💕
This show seemed Jinxed from the start
How?
Wonderful times when Christ and His birth could be named in a TV series. Nowadays it seems to be taboo.
nuria: not everyone is a Christian and we must not discriminate against the pagan savages.
So true!!!!! You can talk about ANYTHING but the true meaning of Christmas now.
Welcome to the cancel culture.
@@georgfriedrichhandel4390 Yep. Woke culture.
Happy Holidays.

Bess so very Selfish

Bess is her and her husband's child.
@@twitteringothers5059 Laars is dead. I meant Bess’ husband.
