Great video, course made it to the end. People may hate on the snap-on, but I'm convinced none of them have ever bought one or used one. They may lie and say they have, but we know that's not true or they would know the difference. To me companies like GearWrench, icon or tekton get about 90% of the way there. But that extra 10% with the tool truck ratchets really makes a difference for some of us
In my case the first part of your statement is false. I'm going to hate on Snap-on only because they have priced themselves out of my budget. Not going to hate on them because of the tools themselves, I do own some and grew up using Snap-on tools. My pocketbook only allows me to get the absolute best tools I can get for the money I have. And I don't buy much HF stuff either. So I know a little bit about tools in my 40 years of experience.
@@chefshadetree3972 everyone's pocket book only allows for that. I don't have a bunch of snap on for the same reason. However, that's not their fault. So I see no reason to hate. I personally only see a few reasons to hate tool companies and that is for blatant intellectual theft. Zero effort to do their own research or designs. Or for outsourcing to China without any effort to do otherwise. You see companies like tekton trying very hard to source as much american stuff as they can. Harbor freight doesn't give a single shit, seems like GearWrench either.

You have to live up to your name, tool addict. Listen, I am an older guy. Buying quality tools that we enjoy is a great thing if it makes you happy. I remember being 10 years old and my old man taking me to flea markets in the 70's and watching him haggle with sellers with their tools all laid out like candy. Back in the days, these people didn't have tables. The sophisticated sellers would use carpeting, but most sold from the pavement. Many people spend money on other things (which is fine as well). When Chicago passed the conceal carry law and people could now own and carry handguns, I went crazy and found myself at the range shooting everything. I look back, with no regrets, but I spent hundreds and hundreds on ranges, ammo, etc I have nothing to show. I am back to my passion which is tools. When you buy a tool, not only will you have it forever, tools can always be re-sold and most importantly every time I work on my car I am reminded how I love my tools. One repair always pays for itself. Do yourself a favor, buy the tools you like. I see guys bashing each other online with Snap-on vs Harbor Freights, etc. At the end of the day, we are all enjoying our tools. Lets all enjoy our hobbies, we are all brothers in this and we are not spending 1,000's on drugs, prostitutes, woman and other useless hobbies. I mention being older because one day I will be dying and realize I don't ever regret working on cars, buying nice tools in different places and having enjoyed this great hobby for many years.

It has very smooth clicks I don't know if they were sold in parts stores or department stores, but it's a pretty cool old ratchet
My go to 3/8 is either Ko-ken, Matco, or the Proto 90 I just got. In 1/4 snap on multiposition is my go to. Just waiting for Ko-ken 1/4 72 to come out. Good Evening All: CP, you hit the nail on the head again sir. 👍 MY first exposure was when I started turning wrenches 🔧 & it was SK. I bout a full 3/8 drive set when I was 8 years old. I can still hear my father calling me an asshole 😒. The 2 ratchets that failed & the SK that caused my an injury & a CRAPSMAN. The Sk got replaced with no problem but CRAPSMAN really gave me a super hard time. I have 1 MAC ratchet that I bought back in 1985 & haven't been on a MAC truck since cause there are none in my area. When you have a certain feel for the mechanism you also feel the fastener. Many have told me I'm full of it but it's true ,& that's OK. My favorite is my Snap On ratchets. Snap On is expensive & maybe you think I'm a SNOB but they perform for me, they don't fail, & it makes me money safely. What more is there to know 🤔. Cp great video, TMP from N.J.
Great video, I’m going to make a video about my ratchet collection. I also have a Mac flex head. I didn’t want the comfort grip but that’s all my dealer had. It now is my go to
I just got a koken ratchet and really love it. I also bought the quick spinner. I immediately compared it to my other ratchet and koken is the smoothest.
I appreciate you sharing your top ratchets, CP! I also have a few that never get used (USA Craftsman from the late 1980s) as I always grab my favorites for the task at hand (which I think we all do). Buy once, cry once on the better stuff but they are DEFINITELY well worth the investment!
Ridiculous collection of ratchets but I absolutely love it and I think this is 100% okay, I admire this. Having said that, man we need to you into some Wera ratchets! They're nice!
A study was done a few years ago with professional techs about their tools, box's, training, etc. In that study they found that the average Tech owned 18 ratchets. Personally I feel that number is low but that's what it found. I past 18 many years ago and the only non American made is a Koken and a Nepros. Thanks for calling out the flex head vs fixed head strength testing. Might as well be shocked when a 1/2 inch outperforms a 1/4 inch, doesn't make much sense. No kidding thats interesting I could see owning a dozen but that's definitely so great information I enjoyed this comment very much appreciated the knowledge!!
That Blackhawk is a Tone which I’m sure you know. I have a Snap On 3/8 11”ish quick release that I bought specifically because I wanted what I figured is the strongest option in a quick release in that length as it’s one of my favorite all around lengths. But I also really like my non QR Gearwrench 90t compact head and my Proto 90t teardrops.
Depends on the year Blackhawk was originally made in usa in Texas before being bought by Stanley, and their is some debate that tone even manufacturers and not infar making them for tone now.
@@CPthetooladdict that’s valid. I was just speaking of the one you had right there. We’ve got some old Blackhawks kicking around the shop, like 36t variety. They’ve been around a while.
I have some snap on and Mac flex head ratchets but the one I usually use the most is the shittsburg it’s in between sizes of my Mac and snap on it’s 16 inches I think
I need to order a couple of Koken ratchets, I had ordered a couple but it seems some fedex guy wanted them more than I did. I do have a few Nepros and they are more than excellent aside from being a little taller profile. I do have a large amount of inexpensive ratchets, probably half of them. It’s surprising how well some of them hold up as those are the ones I allow the other guys to grab. I still police them up at the end of the day, they go back in the box clean and dry. Thinking about going on the hunt for some Proto ratchets and some American made Cornwell. The latter’s days are numbered for sure so I’ve got to find them in low and high tooth count. My long distance independent tool truck guy used to be with Cornwell so I’m hoping he has a few stashed somewhere along with an SAE Wrench set. When I get out from under this recent Vacation plus the annual Taxes, Insurance and Home expenses, I want to do a video on some Williams USA stuff. Few people know that for a few bucks more or less in a lot of cases than Taiwanese stuff, you can have Snap On quality and smoothness in lower tooth counts.
The regular SK 1/4" ratchet is about the same length, so what is it you like about the stubby 3/8"? Just the knurling? How about using a 3/8 to 1/4 adapter?
Really nice. Wise words, it all depends on the situation and the value for money. My go to are nepros, koken, usag and facom ( got merged some times ago), Got snap on and bunch of cheaper stuff. And they all work when you pick the right tool for the job. Koken 3/8 3753sm multipurpose has been my saviour multiple times.
CP, I have over 60 ratchets and I take good care of them down to the lowliest Shittsburg Pro set. I tend to but all three drive sizes when I see something I really like. Yes I have a problem, no shits are given or asked for. Yes I will continue to buy and cherish ratchets and wrenches. There are worse things to collect out there. BTW, my favorite is the FHLL80 3/8 red comfort grip.
C.P. I have locking flex head snap ons 3/8 & 1/2 I’m thinking about getting the regular flex heads from snap on but in the extra long flavor. How do they hold up to getting floppy and more annoying than useful?
For the longest time I wouldn't grab my locking snapon flex head due to how easy it would move from the free moving to locked and it would just piss me off but then I did the tool exchange program (if you know you know) with my cornwell flex head so now if I need a longer 3/8s I gotta deal with it
I have exactly 11 ratchets so your ballpark was spot on. I just look at you ratchet drawer and think why, but then you would not have a channel if you didn't. Lol congrats on the PR for the magazine add/flyer it always feels good when your channel gets some good PR. Keep telling the truth brother., and stop buying ratchets. Lol
I bought the husky 5pcs ratchet set that comes with the 1/4” gimbal ratchet and I pretty much hate all 5 of them. They are definitely the tools I would loan out to a friend. I have 2 ko-ken and 3 Nepros ratchets that I pick up 99% of the time. Not to mention my 2 Snap-on’s, 3 Craftsman’s and 3 Astro Tools ratchets… The only ratchets I regret buying are those husky’s. They have really stiff back drag (even after servicing with superlube oil), the surface finish arrived new with pits and scratches and they all have large-profile pear heads except the standard 1/4”. I felt they weren’t worthy of my toolbox space sitting next to my Japanese ratchets so I have since moved them to the trunk of my car. I don’t typically get rid of tools ever so they will likely be sitting in that car until my death.
I have not had good luck with the snapon 1/4 swivel head apparently it’s a recurring issue with them that they skip a lot. I have the 3/8 version and love it. I returned the 1/4 didn’t even bother to warranty it bc iv heard so many bad things abt that particular style
I know what you mean by having all kinds of ratchets I think I have about 60 plus 3/8 ratchets. Some I love some I hate but the all have there place great video
What do you think of the fixed head standard length 3/8 144 position,100 position and the 72 tooth husky ratchets CP sir and hopefully Henry is doing better today.
I said at the end snap-on was my number 1 but that's not in every category the ratchets I showed have different purposes no one ratchet can be the best because a 18 ratchet is good at a specific task but not good at under dash work you can't put a place realistically on one ratchet it takes several to complete different task.
Yo, CPTool In your ratchet video, I was looking yo see if you owned an omega pro tools 3/8 drive ratchet? Because it's such an interesting ratchet, it's a rotator handle that also allows you to pull out the head and has a kind of speed handle built into it as well
I must be losing the race, I only have five 3/8” drive ratchets😅! I have 3-Carlyle: a stubby fixed-head, a non-locking flex-head with the bent handle, and the regular locking flex-head. A Tekton regular fixed-head with the comfort grip, and a Gearwrench swivel-head ratchet. The Carlyles have gotten the most use and their locking flex-head is my favorite. I even gloat about it some on my itty-bitty channel.
Looking at almost all of the swivel head roto heads I think they are made in the same factory for everyone. Maybe snap on is different but not sure. Have a great week.

Excellant Video keep up the good work.
Dude! I’m envious lmao ppl don’t understand u gotta feel it try it hold it
Exactly that was how I ended up with this lol
Hey what's the head kit number for that old mac ratchet to make it a 1/2 drive
Discontinued
I know it discontinued I want to look on the used market for one
I want a SK 45174 ratchet in 1/4". That knurled handle all the way up. Any brand.
The regular SK 1/4" ratchet is about the same length, so what is it you like about the stubby 3/8"? Just the knurling? How about using a 3/8 to 1/4 adapter?
@@GH-oi2jfthe simplicity and minimalist type design appeals to me.
Had to come back I like watching something I watched before good video CP 8/20/24👍😎👍
Glad you enjoyed it
Agree that Snap on 3/8 extra long flex is solid..had my doubts when I first got it..man it gives you 1/2 drive feel..
Amen on that it's a beast
That side winder was from Popular Mechanics. I had one as a teenager.
It was sold through them but it was a private company named Qual connect....

That Stanley twist flex Rachel has got me out of a number of tight situations. It may be cheap but it has earned a place in my box.
Agreed
Have many different brand ratchets but my go to are hard handel snap ons
Really nice. Wise words, it all depends on the situation and the value for money. My go to are nepros, koken, usag and facom ( got merged some times ago), Got snap on and bunch of cheaper stuff. And they all work when you pick the right tool for the job. Koken 3/8 3753sm multipurpose has been my saviour multiple times.
I’m looking to get and try my first snap-on ratchet next week. I have icons and craftsmans currently
Go for it!
I love my snap on hard handle ratchets and the normal s80 ratchet
Most of my Snap On ratchets I bought used in good shape. Two I bought new
For the longest time I wouldn't grab my locking snapon flex head due to how easy it would move from the free moving to locked and it would just piss me off but then I did the tool exchange program (if you know you know) with my cornwell flex head so now if I need a longer 3/8s I gotta deal with it
I have a bunch in my box at work 5 1/4 drive 6 3/8 drive 6 1/2 drive and 3 3/4 drive. I know I have all I need but I WANT more lol.
Lol always good 👍
I thought I had a lot of ratchets but brother you got me beat. Thanks for the video. What are your favorite screwdrivers?
Probably vessel
Top 5 flashlight / work lights
I have exactly 11 ratchets so your ballpark was spot on. I just look at you ratchet drawer and think why, but then you would not have a channel if you didn't. Lol congrats on the PR for the magazine add/flyer it always feels good when your channel gets some good PR. Keep telling the truth brother., and stop buying ratchets. Lol
I have an astro ratchet like that mac 1/2. I don't use it much but it's pretty decent and was cheap
Have you happen to have have heard when sk is going to get tools in stock on there website?
As soon as china can get them pumped out
@@CPthetooladdict i like the way the wrenches feel in hand seems like the edges are more rounded
I don't think you will see that design again I'd be looking for new old stock on ebay or Harry j epstien
Not to mention my 2 Snap-on’s, 3 Craftsman’s and 3 Astro Tools ratchets…
The only ratchets I regret buying are those husky’s.
So are the old SK ratchets getting the olsa name ? Or what’s going on with SK now ?
Yes olsa is using the company that used to make the lp 90 sk
Keep this idea going. Also is there anything wrong with mayhew pry bars?
Nope
Mayhew make good products.
I know what you mean by having all kinds of ratchets I think I have about 60 plus 3/8 ratchets. Some I love some I hate but the all have there place great video
Top 5 pliers would be cool also I just bought Koken of my matco dealer do you know if they’re parting up with Koken
What do you think of the fixed head standard length 3/8 144 position,100 position and the 72 tooth husky ratchets CP sir and hopefully Henry is doing better today.
Never used one I think the 144 thing is a gimmick
@@CPthetooladdict I'd have to agree I also think it is a gimmick why I haven't bought one.
Great collection, any Harbor Freight or Grearwrench ?
Nope nothing excited me from them
Does mac make a usa made stubby Ratcheting wrench ?
No
When I look into Cornwell ratchets online catalog their 3/8 have now 72 teeth and 120 is it a coincidence it's similar to Gearwrench.
that 1/4 is the bees knees my go to for anything 15mm or smaller
Love all my snap on ratchets but the 12” matco flex head ratchet is one I always find myself grabbing
Project farm broke the head of the flex head ratchet but it still works it didn't strip the teeth or pawl
Perhaps a wrap up at the end of these top 5 videos would be useful for referencing
Thanks for the suggestion I couldn't remember your full screen name..I'm not sure I understand what you mean as far as a wrap up?
@@CPthetooladdict like “just to recap, number 1 was this, number 2 was this, 3 was this, 4 was this, and finally number 5 was this”
I said at the end snap-on was my number 1 but that's not in every category the ratchets I showed have different purposes no one ratchet can be the best because a 18 ratchet is good at a specific task but not good at under dash work you can't put a place realistically on one ratchet it takes several to complete different task.
What some good but cheap-er set of flexhead ratcheting wrenches?
Icon gearwrench
Tecton
@@johnb1121 lol better than the teckon you think?
I like the craftsman ones they are very nice tekton and dynamic are also good ones
@@CPthetooladdict how about long dual box ratcheting… 2 sizes on each… they all seem very expensive.
Yo, CPTool
In your ratchet video, I was looking yo see if you owned an omega pro tools 3/8 drive ratchet? Because it's such an interesting ratchet, it's a rotator handle that also allows you to pull out the head and has a kind of speed handle built into it as well
I will check them out sounds Interesting thanks
Thanks cp I think it was me on my old ranger danger account when I was active still
I must be losing the race, I only have five 3/8” drive ratchets😅!
Do you like the Olsa swivel head ratchets?
I liked them fine until olsa tools just rebranded them from sk
Looking at almost all of the swivel head roto heads I think they are made in the same factory for everyone. Maybe snap on is different but not sure. Have a great week.
CP! What’s the best mix of koken and snap on ratchets you would buy if starting over? Lengths, flex, fixed etc.
I buy all the quarter inch and three eighths and koken and then the longer lengths and snap on koken doesn't make anything over twelve inches
