"She will only hear her mother's voice." After that line you can see the pain and helplessness in Craig T Nelson's character. Just a phenomenal performance by everyone in this film.

Zelda Rubinstein had the most relaxing voice. Rest in peace to all the actors and actresses who have passed away who was in all the Poltergeist movies. Especially Heather O'Rourke, who went so young and could have possibly been saved if they would have done more test.

Yes very true. Incredible acting also. Number 2 though has always scared me, I mean the actor who played Henry Kane. Tbh the entire curse of poltergeist does scare me. The fact they used real skeletons is very disrespectful indeed.

Poltergeist 2 is actually pretty good. Nowhere as good as the first movie, of course, but it's still a very decent sequel. Julian Beck / Reverend Henry Kane in particular is absolutely fantastic.

I watched this movie for the first time in its entirety yesterday 2021. It amazed me that this old movie was so good and enchanting.
Despite being more than 40 years older in the CGI department in comparison to todays CGI effects in movies and TV shows.

The way I saw it, her father's voice gave her the strength to break free from the restraint she was under, but her mother's voice was the one that was guiding her as she was running across the spectral plane to the exit and her mother's arms.

…now…hold onto yourselves. There’s one more thing. A terrible presence is in there with her. So much rage, so much betrayal, I’ve never sensed anything like it. I don’t know what hovers over this house, but it was strong enough to punch a hole into this world and take your daughter away from you. It keeps Carol Ann very close to it, and away from the spectral light. It lies to her, it tells her things only a child can understand. It has been using her to restrain the others. To her, it is just another child. To us, it is the beast. Now let’s go get your daughter.
    Golden.

It's so interesting how she responded only to her father's voice to break free but wanted her mother to run to. Amazing. Tangina is so great. This is kinda like the sixth sense where these deceased souls dont know they are dead & cling to carolanne bc they want to still be alive. The next part tangina explains that the beast uses her to keep them from going to the light. When she says it says things & seems like a child to her but is the devil that is so terrifying. Using her innocence for it's most evil agenda. The acting is brilliant from Williams & nelson. Tangina coming into the film was so great. Spielberg must have directed the best parts. Like these. I wonder why he didnt just fully direct it instead if giving Hooper the credit.

When they re-made this a few years ago I had some high hopes. They did marvelous things with some of the plot and modern effects made you think it was going somewhere. But they spoiled it massively with the 'reality TV' interjection. The problem is that writers think 're-imagining' means changing the bits that work and keeping the first and last bits more or less in tact. If cakes were made that way, Mr Kipling would be burned at the stake in one of these movies. It was the same with 'The Wicker Man'. USA remade it and a lot of it is good, but then they delete a chunk and replace it with prime-cut bollocks!

See it's not that Tangina needs to exercise the house, she needs to exercise the spirits surrounding the parents.
Like in the 2nd movie how Diane's mom was introduced as a character shortly before death.
Just pay attention to the subtle idiosyncrasies in movies like this. The entire series looks quite different if you consider that Kane in part 2 was actually Diane's mother in her true nature.

This is a very powerful scene but the background score during Tangina's speech feels heavy-handed, out of place, and overly playful/whimsical for such a serious scene IMO.

@@radioactivification My take was that Tangina was implying that Jo would have to be willing to do anything, ANYTHING, to save Carolanne, even if it meant going against everything she believed in and even sacrifice her own self for her baby girl. I thought the line was both moving and appallingly terrifying at the same time. I genuinely don't get what's 'hilarious' about it. Some people just have a twisted sense of humour, I guess.

@@chooseyourpoison5105 I agree with you. The problem with Christians is that they sometimes believe they have the only point of view on the afterlife that matters. This line was written because many Christians would have resisted Tangina's instructions because it didn't mesh with their limited understanding of the nature of life and death from their bronze-age coloring book.
