  • RJ did this quick video to show you how the Korg Pa5x v1.2 has caused him a great set back to his music production. What is Korg thinking? I will definitely be going back to v1.1.
    Please let me know if there is a work around.

    For all of you out there maybe v1.2 will be awesome. For my work flow I went back to v1.1... Maybe v1.3 will be better.
    FYI!!! When you download all these upgrades to the OS make sure you save them. You never know when you might have to go back to them.

      I tried a lot of different things, but nothing worked. Every time I transposed the keyboard, the chords in the sequencer changed. And for me, what I am using the Pa5x for it didn't work. But, I am happy with Ver 1.1 it seems to be working fine for me. Here is one of my other videos, it might explain what I mean.

    The problem must be from somewhere else, for example, with the new update, I noticed that when I reactivate the device's backup file, the matrix button number 14 on channel one is turned off and does not work. I factory reset the device again. When I loaded the backup file, everything went very well, and when I loaded it again, this happened again and I realized that there is a problem with the backup file. You must test it once before loading the backup file!

      I did, I found this before I even started bringing in my Styles, Sounds and Chord Sequences. But, I went back to v1.1 and everything is fine. I am going to do a video on my process and you will see why I like the old way better.
      I worked on this for 2.5 hrs. I thought maybe I could find something in "Settings" that would help but could not.

    Could you please mention this problem on the Korg forums? There is a topic there, called "Problem report - PA5x OS1.2.0 (NO WISH-LISTS!!!!)" I attempted to post a link here, but I was unable to. It would be so nice to have this problem listed there.

      @@alanadee2514 This is weird, I worked with it for a while, and you have to have the "Split Button" and the "Lower" keys button on. Then go to your mixer and make sure everything is turned on and the volume is up. I did find when using it this way I had to change the chord recognition to upper. This way the chord pattern did not change when I was playing the lower keys. But of course, if you want the chord to change with what you are playing then that will work too. Take Care, my friend.

    My friend's update went perfectly and 1.2 is awesome. Our local dealer also has it working fine. If you are having problems, it could be faulty data, corrupt download, bad quality USB stick (yes there are bad quality USB sticks) or the download went fine but you are trying to load faulty data (sound files, Songbook data etc). Going nuclear with your frustration might feel good but is useless for everyone else. Go back to the dealer who sold you the Pa5X, or call the local distributor and work through the issues.

      @phiniusjwhippy For what I use this keyboard for, those other benefits that 1.2 offers don't really have any effect on what I do. Song lists and things like that I don't really use. If the guitarist is detuned 3 semitones it ll look like he is playing Am but the sound will not be Am so he is transposed too.

      When you're working with other musicians, guitar players that are tuned down. Their instrument might be playing a chord that is tuned down, but they are still playing standard chord progressions. Example, if I have a chord progression on that screen that says Am /// G/// C/// D/// that's what they'll play on the guitar. There is no confusion. They will play those chords. Yes, in reality they're playing F#m E A B. But with stringed instruments those chords are totally different, and have a total different sound. And the same goes for soloing. If that same guitar player looks at that chord change he knows exactly what scale to play it in. He doesn't have to recalculate. If it says Am that's the scale he's going to play. All the time I've worked with musicians that are tuned down. No one ever said I'm going to play this Am here which is actually an F#m. They say let's play this song in Am and everyone follows along because they're all tuned down. Just about every rock band out there tunes down a step or two. Even when I was in Nashville, all their great guitar players tuned down one whole step. And the Bluegrass Country people all have different tunings. In the world of stringed instruments people will even write the songs down as playing a D C G. But depending on how they tuned the instrument it might not be a D C G. But who cares if their instrument sounds great in that tuning. I just need to be able to write a song for them, and they can come in and look at that chord progression and we can record.

      Let's not forget, most guitarists aren't good at reading CHARTS! They understand the tuning thing, but if there reading the screen you've connected to the PA5X, and there tuned down but are playing the same shapes, but trying to read in F#minor, it's not gonna be pretty!!!

    • @jonmicheals621
      @jonmicheals621  11 місяців тому

      @@moogy77 You got that right. Most Rock guitar is based around the E6 string or the A5 string. So, if they are tuned down, they play that shape related to that string and don't really care what note it really is. I have even been in bands where everyone is tuned down and the other guitar play would say, ride the E string and then hit the G and then the A. Your point exactly.

    There used to be no keyboards in the past, yet composers were able to arrange music tracks nicely and musicians were able to read the scores.. There is a "good" news though. Very soon AI will take over and will do all the tech stuff for us, there ll be no need in complex synth interfaces any longer. Yes, our brains will start to deteriorate, but that's the price we have to pay for technological advancements.

With all the music Services out there and you are right, AI is already writing music. You have to make that decision of speed of production over a great creative idea.

      @@FRANCCO32 You get it. If I had 3 guitar players like my song and want to record it. One guy is natural tuning, one guy is down 2 steps, and the third guy is down 3 steps. With v1.1 I could tune the keyboard with that style down to match their guitar without changing the chord in the Chord Sequencer. There would be no confusion with any of them. Because they would all be playing the same chords on their guitar. This also goes for Banjo or Mandilyn players too. They all have different tuning and sound different but by the text book they are all playing the same chords.

      Something is surely up. At first, they offered a version upgrade with 1.1 only showing. Then, when version 1.2 came out they got rid of having access to version 1.1 on their site. Thank goodness I kept version 1.1 backed up. Because I found out version 1.2 wouldn't work for me. So I have been running version 1.1 and don't seem to have many problems. And Korg did bring back version 1.1 to their site. I also think there is a bad batch of these things. I haven't had any problems of it freezing up, but there are a lot of people that say they're Pa5x will freeze up. For what I'm using it for the Pa5x will probably work pretty good with version 1.1 installed.

    • @jonmicheals621
      @jonmicheals621  Рік тому

      It is not about transposing the music. It is how people interpret the music. If I play Am on my red RG770 that is a Am and every book printed would agree. But if I play Am on my blue S470 which is tuned down 3step it will look just like the book, Am but it will actually be a F#m. When working with people that play stringed instruments you what to direct them to play the chord that gives you that sound you are looking for. Watch my video.
      ua-cam.com/video/caaluY5MF3E/v-deo.html
      There is an open sound that you get with a guitar or a stringed instrument that you cannot get in any other key. So, if I want the musician to play that open string sound they would have to play and E A D G B E. But if they want their song recorded in C#m but with that open string sound, they will have to tune their guitars down 3 steps. Which means they are now playing with that open String sound and as the text book would say... Yes they are playing and Em+5 but sonically it is a C#m. Most Rock Bands and a lot of Country Bands tune down. And for reading music. When you have to create something quickly for your clinent, you need to communicate quickly with the people you are working with.

    I've written on pa5x "official" on Facebook another think should be added on chord progressions. We're using this junk for playing progressions lyke a live song and each variation should have possibilities to different progressions and not like it is now (same progression to all variations). And that's becouse a song contains different chords between intro/A/B/ bridge/ outro... This keyboard is really a junk from 90's and not a keyboard for 2023!!!

      Korg has a long way to go for sure. But this Chord Sequencer is the only reason I bought this thing. I use the Pa5x for songwriting. Before this, it was a Pa1000. So, I can do what you're talking about. I can write out a whole chord change, including a verse and chorus. Then, when I go to record it in the DAW system I can change the Vars by hand as the chord progression plays. I created a soundtrack for video the other day by playing back the chord changes I recorded and hitting the fill buttons every now and then. Of course, you have to hit the Var or Fill button 2 beats, or 4 beats before the next chord change to make it sound good. But it works, for me in the studio.
