Exquisitely gorgeous creations full of amazing details and wow the colours and the designs are Breathtakingly beautiful 😘❤️😘 thank you for sharing you are a true artist
That's thinking inside of the box. lol I was a little dubious there at the middle, but you pulled it off. That's a great idea, never would have thought of doing a diorama in a shadow box. Great solution for those with limited space for a completed diorama. 👍
Yeah I was a little worried for a minute about halfway through, but after I fixes the backing board issue it just came together. Best thing about shadow boxes is they come in a I’ve variety, so you can find something for almost any space you have, and it’s fun :)
I know you said that the lights were supposed to be like bugs and stuff but I can only think of them as warpstone and a similar skaven style diorama. Yippee, another project to add to my list!
I almost almost went with a Skaven theme instead of goblins. Those lights would have definitely been warp stone that they went in to harvest. In the end I just liked the way the goblins looked with the spider. Another time though, skaven will get a place on my wall :)
Loved the shadowbox and the little story it told. Its needs an official name now, something like "Bolggut Spiderstabbers Folly". That Chaos model is Scyla Anfingrimm; the backstory they used to have for him is pretty cool, though its no longer on the website. If I remember, he was an Aspiring Champion of Khorne who somehow angered the Blood God (lets be honest here, Khorne pretty much spends all his time angry, so I can't its very difficult to get him to focus that anger on you for even a tiny mishap) so he was cursed to mutate into that crazy, skinned-ape looking monster which is apparently just a living slab of muscle, rage and Khorne symbols.
I wanted to do cobwebs so bad, I couldn’t find anything that would work on hand! There’s a really cool thing you can do with crackle medium through an airbrush that makes insane spiderwebs, I’m planning on getting some to add later. Would have been nice for sure!
I have to admit, that I have succumbed to a bit of hobby overload recently, especially with so many YT channels doing just painting of minis, so I've been taking a bit of a breather from the web as a result. That being said, thank you for this refreshing installment, as it's pertaining to the hobby, but in a different way. It was very enjoyable to watch, and I hope you broaden things up a little more (as you're able). And now, I impatiently await your Scyla Anfingrimm video (which, btw, I'm TOTALLY jealous of that score)!
I know the feeling, especially with everything the way it is right now. There has been a hobby overload over the last month for a lot of people. I’m definitely feeling it lately, which is definitely why switching it up a little felt necessary. I’m glad you enjoyed it, I certainly did and I hope to continue to try new things like this as it fits the channel! I am excited to get to that Scyla though, even it it will be a straight paint job, that model is awesome :) I’m looking forward to getting through these next few months, maybe we can all get back to some sense of normality. We’ll get through it eventually :)
Great idea, Brother. I have a space in the my bathroom wall where a medicine cabinet used to be. This idea will make a great underwater scene to fill that space. Thanks for the inspiration.
That's so cool! That would freak out my GF ! Something like that would be fantastic for your OSL lighting techniques with a figure holding a torch in the darkness and just some reflections from the spiders eyes and fangs! Great video !
The whole time I was making this I was thinking of what I could do for another one. Osl would be perfect for something like this! It’s 100% on the project list for another one of these :)
I would love to see your take on this project, I know you’ve got a shadow box laying around somewhere! Yeah filming the glass was a pain, but it definitely shows some of the studio so bonus points there :)
For sure! I do plan on revisiting this project at some point. I want to do something larger and more focused on the minis. This was a fun proof of concept though :)
A shadowbox is a really cool idea. I've attempted some display works in the past. Entered Armies on Parade at my local GW store for the past few years, but always felt intimidated with foam sculpting and creating a large scenic piece. This would never had occurred to me before and now I'm kinda curious how one would turn out.
With a foam cutter it’s super easy to do, the one I have is a cheap one too, I think it was $6 at hobby lobby, probably with a coupon, but still. It sliced right through the foam no problem! I imagine that if you have enough modeling experience to enter armies on parade that a shadow box would be a great option.
Mannnnnnnn! I love this idea! great job, and a cool project for the hobby room. The LEDs are a nice touch as well. That Lord Executioner is a steal for $5 btw :D
I'd love to do another one of these in an even bigger box, get some real lights in there to see better. Once the glass went on it got real hard to see into it :(
Yeah I think I’ve seen him do this with frames and minis, tons of models in one frame and it legitimately looks like a painting, really cool stuff out there!
Loved watching your video, great idea and beautiful execution - if you want to add a little more depth to caves and similar spaces like you made - add a slight dark wash over the back wall which will make your foreground wall pop out a little more - not the models or points of interest, just the back wall to separate the values more between the foreground and background.
Haha, I’m planning on putting that noise marine on full display in the new space! He will always be playing the intro music :) I thought you might enjoy this one in particular. Seems like something you could do really well!!
Thanks! I’ve had about the same amount of time as usual, which to be honest isn’t very much, but, when I started using my larger space it really opened up my filming opportunities, which leads to a much better time during editing :)
Thanks! I found this pack of silver and gold flakes in the jewelry section at Hobby Lobby. Unfortunately I got rid of the packaging so I don’t know the specific brand, but i imagine if you went to a craft store and checked the same section you’ll probably find it or something similar.
I like to search for eBay for broad terms, like just using Warhammer, and then using the filters to get it down to as few as possible, in the price range I’m looking for. So used only, with paint, and around $10. It gives you some good options to search with. You also have to check back pretty often, it changes daily, so be patient and keep looking, you’ll find some great stuff in no time!
I paint and make videos about 2 days a week. I’m hoping to go full time on UA-cam at some point but in order to pay the bills right now I do filmography for small businesses. Short videos mainly for a client’s website, UA-cam, or Facebook. Other than that, I’m at home with my son :)
It’s great but I feel it could be so much more. I think the cave looks to bright and lacks atmosphere. The setup and concept is great but you could have gotten so much more out of it by painting the lighting with some osl effects (daylight shining in from the left getting darker, glowing moss or mushrooms and shimmering gold); by using water effects to create moisture; by painting all the tufts and plants instead of just placing them and so on. Also I wonder why there is grass growing so far into the cave?
Amazing work! What do you use for stripping models? Im interested in stripping resin and plastic models. I live in Europe so simple green and stuff like that is not an option unfortunatelly.
I use a product called LAs Totally Awesome. It’s in the same camp as simple green only quite a bit stronger. But like simple green, not available in Europe. I know you can buy it on amazon, so I assume you could get some, but there is probably something similar for cheaper in your country. Pretty much a concentrated degreaser will do the job. The other thing I use is a sonic jewelry cleaner, that does a majority of the work with the degreaser inside. Otherwise you have to let it sit for a few day in a bag or jar. Also, with a sonic jewelry cleaner, you can put resin models inside, but you have to make sure it doesn’t get too hot! Most sonic cleaners heat up, so resin will start to warp. As long as you’re careful it’s fine, I’ve never had an issue as long as I keep an eye on it. Hope that helps!

I really do too, and I’m hoping to do more of it on the channel :)

Thats a great way to use new materials and test new skills whilst also giving some old models more purpose than sitting in a box of bits!
My thoughts exactly :)
Simply Amazing!👍👍
Glad you enjoyed it :)

That’s a great name! I totally want to get some kind of little name plate for it.
Thanks for the background on Scyla too!
Great idea. Will certainly be trying it. Thanks.
This was awesome. More of this please
This was very enjoyable, I definitely plan on doing more like this in the future :)
Great job ! Gotta try that myself.
Beyond a lack of cobwebs this was a really fun build. Nice!

@@eBayMiniatureRescues Yeah I was curious how you were gonna do them. Still it's a nice diorama.
Cool idea!
Super fun to do, I feel like everyone should give this a try :)
Nice work! Kudos to you for trying something different.

Absolutely!

This shadow box turned out awesome, and it’s a great idea with older or broken up minis. Thanks for the great video.
Thanks! There are so many possibilities for a project like this, I’ve already got tons of great ideas for another one :)
Music in this ep was on point!

It was fun and not terribly hard, grab a cheap shadow box see what you can do!
Man this turned out great. Love it. I’m working on a Gloomspite army and you gave me some really cool stuff to chew on.
Thanks! I really love those little gloomspite models. There’s so much you can do with them!
Very cool! A great idea that I may just have to try myself
It’s a fun project, definitely worth trying out :)
Very impressive mate, gave me some great inspiration to do my own diorama.
That super cool
Great video. As someone who paints minis almost purely for my shelf, this is a great idea that I'll have to try out. Thank you!
You should give it a shot. I bet you could do some really cool stuff, you’ve got a ton more terrain supplies and experience than I do lol
!
Such a cool project! I also love the hints of your new studio. I saw some pretty cool stuff in the glass-reflection of the final shadowbox... :-)

@@MLiskindagay I forgot that was even a thing. I just poked yt to get me verified ;-)
@@GoobertownHobbies ok, cool
Very cool. Some spider webbs would have been nice to singalize a spiders area ;)

This is art, I need to try building some dioramas
Yesssss Gold!
Nice man! Thanks for the motivation!
Glad you liked it :)
I really enjoyed this video!! I would love more like this. Terrain and dioramas all the way. I’m really inspired by your shadow box take on it.
I’m glad you enjoyed it, I had a good time making this one. I definitely plan on doing more projects like this in the future!
So inspiring mate 👏 , going to have to have a go myself
I think it is awesome. It is however vary monotone in color pallet. You could push the intensity of the minis so the focal point would stand out more
For sure! I do plan on revisiting this project at some point. I want to do something larger and more focused on the minis. This was a fun proof of concept though :)
This is so cool. A whole new approach. Well done.
