Back Flying A MULTI-ENGINE Piper Seminole | Engine Failures Galore | PA44-180

- This has been an itch I've wanted to scratch for a long time. I have searched the Central Florida airports for a multi-engine aircraft to rent and after many unanswered calls and emails I spoke with D&J Aviation in Apopka. They were more than happy to oblige, and thankfully I now have a multi-engine aircraft to fly. But before I can celebrate, I have to put my game face on and perform well on this checkout flight. It's been years since I've flown a light twin but it was a breath of fresh air to get behind the yoke of one again!
Enjoy the flight!

Thank you for coming by Lew to fly the Seminole. We look forward to seeing you around more in the future!
See you Sunday 😉
Wow, that was a treat! Great video, Lewis. Glad to see you keeping your skills sharp.
My plane did its annual at DnJ and they signed me off to fly my plane so the insurance was satisfied. I think it would be awesome to see you get signed off to teach multi engine in the future. So glad to see some fresh content from a whole different platform.
I've been watching your videos since the start of my training about 6-7 months ago. I literelly binge watch your videos all throughout the week. Just wanted to say thank you for the videos. I love your humor and your knowledge. One day I hope to meet you. Hopefully in a few months I'll be ready for that checkride.
Thank you so much! I’m so glad to hear that you enjoy my videos so much!
Great video. Nice to watch the multi engine stuff. Helped me out with some complex airplane stuff too. I'm hoping for the complex endorsement today. I'm early in my UA-cam channel. Was great to hear that you just started posting videos of training and it grew from there. Hoping for the best.
Great flying , lewdix , you makes it looks so easy
What I love about your videos,is that you are REAL. When you make a mistake,it teaches me. Thank You ☺️
I love the Seminole. I have 150 hours between Piper Multiengines, and the Seminole I spent the most time in. Loved that aircraft. Haven't flown Multi in 5 years!
Funny I was legit thinking about how cool Seminoles look a couple days ago and was wondering what would happen if I said you should fly one haha. Good vid Lew!
Haha that’s great. Glad you liked it!
I enjoy ME flying, but its been years since I flew the mighty Seneca.
Great upload, Lew!
I’ll never forget while flying a Seminole and watching a Bonanza streak past me on a cross country. Good ole Seminole: the underpowered brick of the twins. Fantastic for training though.
Super nice, loved It !
Lewdix I love you for your extremely competent engine starts. People don't talk about starting engines, but they should.
Thanks brother! Start as you mean to go on!
@@LewDixAviation yeah, I'm convinced by absolutely Zero scientific data that 93.4% of engine wear happens during starts and *improper* descents.
Nice to see the process of failures and stalls in the twin, makes me want to get my ME but have to focus on IR first!!
Multi is certainly a lot of fun!
Whoooo that engine failure on the ground would have taken me a minute to relax from! That's intense. Having the plane pull in a direction in the air is one thing, there's nothing to hit, but on the ground, that's scary. Great video as always Lewis!
Yea the instant pull definitely grabs your attention! Thanks man!
I love how he hid the mixtures with the checklist aswell, so lew didn't which one would go. sneaky
Nice! Hopefully I will have my first ME flight on Tuesday… also in a PA-44-180!
19X! I've flown that exact plane back when it was at FSI in Vero Beach! Good times! And a great vid! Cheers.
I’ve enjoyed flying it!
Funnily enough, im doing my CMEL in the Seminole right now. Fun airplane to fly!
Did my Commercial Multi-engine in a PA44-180 plane. What a lovely brick to fly!
Hell yeah. Keep these videos coming. I'm starting my seminole training in March, hopefully!
Nice!
Seminole is a great trainer for multi, just know the controls are heavy and its a very manual type of plane to fly. Took my multi commercial in that plane and I miss flying that brick.
I used to watched that very Seminole during its tenure with Flight Safety Intl do touch and goes at KFPR. Good ole days.
Good job my man.
Looks like the MEI could use your FlyingEyes discount code. Two sets of glasses must be a lot of noise leak😜. All joking aside, thanks for letting us in on your trainings.
Great video. Just one comment. At 9:50 when you start your basic stall, I think you should have done mixtures rich before full throttle.
Missed the call for check list. Great job on the engine failure.
Yeah that Seminole is a lot newer than the ones I usually fly the last several years.
Cool video Lew!!!
Thanks man!
Love your videos, and teaching style! Funny enough I just got my commercial multi and MEI in a PA-44 with the exact paint scheme; 7710k.
The company I work for in Iowa purchased 6 seminoles from somewhere down in Florida a year or so ago. Looks like this may be on of them.
It’s probably from the same place: Flight Safety. Thanks!
Small world. Got my eye on 7710K in a few weeks for my multi add-on at KDVN.
Talk about opposite instructing styles! The instructor listening to the instructor... Glad to see you sweat Lewis
It was a workout!
Flying an A36 Bonanza, 214Hrs in the past 8 months so I’m used to positive rate, gear up…. Going through my MEL in a Duchess B76 last week and instructor said the same thing ! Man was I pissed that I missed the gear up…. I was focused on him getting ready to fail one of the engines ! In the end….. the gear wouldn’t retract. Grrr. So, back to land and have to wait until its fixed.
“Apopka traffic, Seminole …
… Call ya back *click*”
😂😏
😂😂
@@LewDixAviation "Why aren't we getting a better climb performance?"
"That'll be the density altitude."
"... and?"
😂
0:43 @Aerolux AWESOME map !! He made me a 48x36 version
Loved the video, maybe they should call that a shipinole since it floats so much :)
Why didn't you stop on the runway? Were you beyond V1 when the engine failed?
Thanks mate.. it was a simulated procedure. In the real world I wouldn’t have taken off if something happened on the early roll like that before accelerate go distance.
Hey, in CFI training, you are my role model I think your method of instruction is phenomenal, and I hope my instruction mimics yours!
Just wondering, are you a career flight instructor or do you have a desire to go back to the airlines? Or I guess more of a present moment kinda guy haha
Thanks for the videos 👍🏼
Ah thank you! That’s a huge compliment..
I actually already was at an airline for about 18 months before getting furloughed. After going back to instruction for a while, I’m assessing my options.
C’mon Lewis Get that MEI please I’d love to see you instructional tactics on a multi aircraft
Pretty sure that lack of climb performance was due to the density altitude, not the gear ;)
😂
The right brake is hanging on the airplane. Maybe same is happening on left side. Brakes obviously need adjusting.
X04 in da hausssss
Looks like a former Flight Safety aircraft.
super cool vide, as always. Im a student pilot with all boxes checked except the check ride - which im prepping for now - with plans to continue on to complex, multi and commercial... how is it going from ASEL to AMEL? is it a whole new animal or just a slight variation from the norm? GO TEAM PIPER!!!
Thanks! If you're familiar with an Arrow, then you won't struggle in a seminole. There are slight differences but it's easy enough to get to grips with.
Don’t have an AFT CG when doing SE work.
Teaching in multi’s is way more fun than clapped out 172’s.
#LIKE Nicely done
It’s weird how a twin prop once seemed huge and complex, now I’m in 737 training they look very different 😂 are you gonna go back to the airlines at all?
Yea 😂 So the point of this Seminole stuff is to get multi current for a return to action.
When he said he was going to fail an engine on the runway, I thought he meant on rotation where you have to climb out from the runway single engine. Isn't that different than a failure on upwind?
I believe that's referred to as a V1 cut if I understand correctly.
Uh Lew... What the hell was that "clear prop" announcement? That is NOT how you do it, Mr "Remain Clear..."
Unacceptable.
Let myself down 😔
Unpopular opinion: the Saab at silver is a light twin! 🤣😂🤣 so you have flown a light twin recently!
😂 I upgraded to the ATR. Just a touch heavier
@@LewDixAviation oh absolutely. The ATR is a real airplane. Disclaimer: I say this owing my career to flying the Saab.
clear prop? CLEAR PROP? are you bloody serious? What theF(&**CKING H3ll is CLEAR PROP.
I love the sounds of the twin.. i cannot wait until i get to fly one!.... IFR first though.. this year is my instrument year. i need to have LewDix provide me a training flight.
that prop does not appear feathered to me
What company do you teach flight lessons for? I’m going to Orlando executive today to check out a flight a flight school.
I work independently
@@LewDixAviation are you accepting new students?
Better to forget to pull the gear up than to forget to put the gear down.
Rogaaaaa
LewDix checklist multi flying-Rev1.0
......DELETE=WELCOME TO THE SKY.....INSERT=POSITIVE RATE, GEAR UP.
Do you need to do anything special to instruct multi engine, like an endorsement or certification?
It’s a separate checkride
@@LewDixAviation Ah ok
"Clear prop"? "Clear prop"? What happened to you man!!!!!! Was it that it would take too long to say "Remain clear of my propellor. I am commencing engine start" twice?
this guy isn,t a great pilot. his vedios suck period.
