- Meet Shifu Kanishka Sharma: the first Indian to ever train at the Shaolin Temple.
Watching 'The 36th Chamber of Shaolin' changed Kanishka Sharma's life. Introduced to the film by his driver, he was so awestruck by the film that he decided to learn the martial arts himself. Starting at the young age of 6, Kanishka has been practicing martial arts for 31 years now, mastering 7 different forms of combat.
Starting with Karate, Kanishka went on to learn Kung Fu and Kerala's Kalaripayattu, followed by the Northern Pai Shaolin style, and the Southern Shaolin style called the 18 Hands of Lohan. He is the first Indian to ever train at the Shaolin Temple, and is now a certified Master himself. Granted the title of Shifu (Master), he has been blessed with the Buddhist name 'Shi Yan You', which means 'perfect', in recognition of his skills.
Eager to impart his knowledge to others, Shifu Kanishka returned to India to set up his own martial arts training camp near Nainital. Following the gurukul system, students must hike up to the school, where they undergo a rigourous training ritual. Shifu Kanishka wants his students to learn martial arts the right way, not the sports version of it that so many teach. His students come to him as much to learn combat as to learn the Shaolin way of life.

He is not a monk... Or a master. He is a shifu, a foreigner that has paid to learn the shaolin arts at the shaolin temple, and that has become the disciple of a monk. He should not call himself grandmaster of whatever temple, until his master (his monk) grants him the title of master.

Am a taekwondo Coach and this in itself has shown me the true value of determination. The Master is awesome. Discipline instilled to these guys is so awesome. Learning every step of the way. Great strength lies in the ability to see your weakness when your are competing against yourself.

Origin of today's kung is India. to spread Buddhism a Buddhist monk named bodhidharma went China n while doing his work he taught them kung fu(it had different Name. now that n Kerala, (from where it originated ) India only "Kalari payatt" remains n not kung fu. n other forms of it disappear with time. but Chinese cherished it n made it available to common( with time, because of constant war n problems learning kung fu seemed best choice). because in olden India only a worrier family had right to learn those things n not common general public. so after many battles n wars this techniques disappeared because new king considered it as unnecessary evil.
Kung Fu originated in China before Buddha was even born. Marital Monks are found ONLY in China, not any other countries. Bodiharma is mythical story, not a real historical person. Buddhism never had a marital tradition, none of the sutra teaches martial arts. Vedic and Hindu scripture mentions no marital art either. Kung Fu is Chinese.
+Pluto Vedic does. Hinduism (today whatever left of it).. does not. No it dint started out after Budha. it already existed in Kerala. only thing is that its his students who had the knowledge of it ( as u know that budha was a worrier prince who killed his 99 brothers in war before realization, no offense)... his few first disciples were his generals who know various fighting techniques. if u can see Samrat Ashoka's kingdom. it spread through all over today's India .including some parts of south. Its how fighting technique got crossed over border. n later Chinese adopted it wisely n it died down in Kerala except for Kalari.. all those hand techniques they show in kung fu. its called " Mudre", its used to make changes inside body, organs n its still used in India as a holistic approach to treat ailments effectively. so yes. now it may have developed or has some different names. it originated n began in Kerala. India. In a part cones under Ayurveda sutras. all mudras comes. its like another sibling of yoga n meditation. Everything natural n holistic n non damaging.

Even many holy Ppl don't know of existence of few older science of Vedic time. recently they found some bundle in India China border .let's say inside China. it was in Devanagari, Sanskrit. They couldn't decipher it. It was about "Vimana". how to build vimanas. They asked Indian help n India badly provided n most of the past gt deciphered but its still long way. now China is using that knowledge in building flying machines that vedic Ppl called " vimana". n u know Wt . Indian govt rejected those information to use in its military R&D saying its all nonsense n unusable. But Chinese. they r researching on the information they extracted. That's one example to say that India still is same. Kicking good old science n knowledge out calling it n" irrelevant ". let's see in few years or decades if China builds a vimana or so. They very few Ppl who knew about it will cry n say " we had it ,vedic Ppl had it. so its our technology ".., n whole world will again repeat " yeah, Indians claim every good thing n the technology n science only came from older vedic Ppl".. U know Archimedes was a student who studied in older India ?
+FJS 15, None of Vedic, Hindu, Buddhist or Jain scripture contains Kung Fu. ZERO! Only a Yoga Sūtras by Patañjali. This is proven by the fact that we have yogi, but never kung fu master. Kalari is only a few centuries with no proven recorded, neither does it look anything similar to Kungfu. India has rich enough history, don't discredit it by making such BS claim. In the eyes of educated, it made us look stupid.

If you remember, you came to vidya devi jindal school to teach us martial arts for a very short period but through that teaching I have developed great love and respect for martial arts till date. I also got a certificate from you which I still have it.

Once again, the epithet "the first Indian to ever train at the Shaolin Temple" is NOT true. It's actually a ridiculous claim when you come to think of it. The first Indian to train at Shaolin was Bodhidharma. According to the Chinese legend, he was the one to begin the physical training of the monks of Shaolin Monastery that led to the creation of Shaolin kung fu.
Mr. Leiduowen yup agree, buddha was first. he was a prince. then he left his royal life! find peace by dhyan(meditation) and get "moksh"( free of everything) he started buddha dharma :)
