Seeing these videos just brings back so many precious memories of our Romeo. He was a pure bred Teddy Bear Shar Pei. He passed away at age 10 in Jan. 2023 from cancer. He was our fur child, and the whole family misses him. While it won't be in the coming months, we will be getting another Shar Pei
Maybe a chocolate, Blue or cow spotted one, but not the Teddy Bear light brown. Also, the Teddy Bear ones are more high maintenance than the shorter hair Shar Peis. They also have the most skin/coat problems. Our Romeo had skin cancer that spread everywhere no matter what treatment or medications we tried. He was finally in so much pain and distress that we had to put him down even after spending thousands of dollars on meds and treatments over the last year. We couldn't let him to continue to suffer anymore, and his vets said there was nothing more they could do after the surgeries, chemo, and steroids didn't help. So we had them make him comfortable, and we saw how fast he was declining daily, so we had him put down, and buried him in the back by the woods. We planted a rose bush above him along with a soccer ball sized rock with his name painted on it. He was our 3rd Shar Pei, and we will get another one because they are the best family oriented fur-baby you can get. They give you 150% of unconditional love and loyalty. So we will always have a Shar Pei.
So sad. I am very sorry for your loss. I just lost my best buddy recently. His name was Bones and he was a shar pei pit bull mix I found on the streets of Detroit. He was the greatest. The wife and I decided we needed another squishy face so we got a new puppy. A full blood shar pei named Maxwell. He will be receiving more than his share of love and good times
I know the feeling as well. Back in September we lost our Rambo. He was a bone mouth Shar Pei and the little guy lived up to be 15 years old. I had him since I was 8 and he was an 8 week old puppy. We had to put him down because of a heart condition he had. It reached a point where his heart medication wasn't helping him anymore, no matter how much the vets increased the dosage. I still miss my little buddy.
I have one. His name is Squishy. For all those wanting one I am sure you have done your research. This breed can be expensive. This breed was once almost extint due to Chinese goverment saying dogs were a luxury and not allowed. That has led to some health problems due to improper breeding. Eye lid surgery and nose surgery to help them breathe and see can run into the thousands. Also prone to ear infections due to very small ear canals only 1/4 size of other breeds. Also the Shar Pei fever can get expensive to treat if they continue to have flare ups. And as I am sure you have researched there is nothing you can do about the Shar Pei fever. They will get it and continue to get it till the day they cross the rainbow bridge. But they are one of the most fiercly loyal loving dog breeds and I will continue to get this breed till I am reunited with all my fur babies.

I love their character. They are calm, devoted, loyal and thoughtful dogs. We have our third now and he is adorable!
