I'm 25 years and speak some French and going to Paris for the first time this summer (July). Thank you so much for making this video! Tu es trop mignon! Merci encore!
Tip from a seasoned European city breaker of decades experience. Whatever you do, do NOT buy a Paris Pass, or indeed any such city pass. Unless you intend to take about ten metro/bus journeys a day and visit about eight attractions a day you will not get value from it. Most city breakers on average only use public transport 3-5 times a day and visit no more than 4-5 attractions a day. if you take the time to price this up you will find that a day travel pass and paying at the gate for what you visit will work out cheaper. The Paris Pass, indeed most city passes are a trap that most inexperienced city breakers fall for. I too was once guilty until I started actually looking at the costs of what I would have spent without it. Also Remember if you're an EU citizen under the age of 25, most Paris attractions are free anyway!
I am visiting Paris very soon, and was looking at ways to save money. Most people said that Paris Pass is the best way to save money, and I did the math and didn't think it was a good option for me. But not even the paris visite pass (transportation)? Can you share more tips about traveling to Paris?
Work out what you want to do before you visit. Then put each location on a Google map. Plan out when you will visit each location and do it in an order that keeps travel minimal. Pick out your big popular things {Tower etc} and do them first thing in the morning, plan lunch somewhere nearby [why sit in an expensive cafe when you can go to a supermarket and buy a sandwich a drink and a piece of fruit. then sit down and enjoy lunch wherever you want while watching the world go by] In the afternoon visit whatever other planned attraction is closest to where you went in the morning. [If the queue will keep you waiting more than two hours, forget it until the following morning - No attraction anywhere in the world is worth standing in a line doing nothing for that long] Plan the travel in advance on Google and see how much it will cost? Are there cheaper discount options? If you speak the language buy your tickets from the manned offices rather than the auto booths when possible. If there are discount fares the staff will give them to you, the auto booths won't. In the evenings pick an attraction, bar, club, restaurant and try to stick within walking distance for the rest of the evening. Check the various locations you're visiting. weigh up the pros of buying queue jumper passes [which are more expensive but save time] against staying in the queue [cheaper but how much of your visit are you prepared to waste in queue?] What are the most popular attractions you're going to visit? get there early and visit their website before visiting. They may have packages and deals when booking in advance or in conjunction with other attractions. You've got the first act right. City Passes are a trap many people fall into. You often end up paying more for a book of discounts you can't possibly recoup on because you either can't or don't want to visit most of the attractions offered.
Great tips, thanks so much. I've been looking at the websites of major attractions such as the Eiffel tower, the louvre museum, etc and checking out options to buy tickets online and save time. I will be staying in Montmarte so will have to plan ahead for everyday. I will def. keep your suggestions in mind. Thanks again. P.S. Love your writing/talking style :)
Hey. An important tip. Your bank card will always give you the best conversion rate so when you're buying something in Paris, and they give you an option to pay in euros or dollers, ALWAYS pick euros. Your bank will convert it and give you the best rate.
Some other “tip” : •learn how to ask for directions and how to understand the answer. Most french people don’t speak English at all but if you’re really lost ask directions from teens or young adults as they would be more likely to be able to communicate. •Don’t buy anything from the distributor it’s way too overpriced. •in trains, you will see foldable seat. It’s common sense to get up of those when the train is becoming crowded. •always have a cloth with some perfume on it, stations often smell like piss. And hand sanitizer for obvious reasons •Sometimes you’ll see people playing “gambling” game in the streets near touristic places. Do not stop to look or at least beware of pickpockets and do not try it’s a scam. •If you ever need to refill a bottle, there’s drinkable water in most parcs.
Other useful Paris Métro RER lines are Métro line 1 west of Bastille, Metro line 6 between Charles De Gaulle/Étoile to Montpernasse, RER line A from LA Défense to Marne la Value/Parc Disneyland and RER B from Luxomburg to Charles De Gaulle Airport.
A few more tips. If you see a WC (restroom)... use it because they are not always available. Just use it. If the Metro Train is full turn your back to the doorway and step up pushing people back with your butt. This works and is not as aggressive as pushing in with your arms. My last tip is to always ask to see something in a store so you do not get your hand slapped for touching something. Make friends with the clerk and you will have a better experience. Oh and eat as many croissants as you can because they are amazing. Oh and if you miss the last Train... you are walking to your hotel... Taxis are horrible and expensive. Just plan on walking. You are going to walk and walk and walk in Paris.
You are so beautiful, I love how you jumped right into the details. Other you-tubers, take minutes before they get to the actual information. You were very informative. You have beautiful teeth, your beauty, your awesome! Thank you for all your help. FYI: try and give us prices of breakfast, etc, etc. to your future travels. Have a wonderful day ~
If you are going to a new country, learning a local language of that country would certainly help; have your phone with you to search the place with maps, although it doesn’t work at some places.
hey! great tips! my favorite "don't be afraid to try the food! my husband and I decided to go to this tiny restaurant I had fish with zucchini gratin and my husband had the duck and omg! it was delicious!! next time I'm there ill try the escargot.
Over a year after you have posted this, but these tips are very helpful. My daughter I will be going to Paris (2nd trip but much longer than previous) in December 2017. Thanks again!
Ceelle2 That is so awesome!!! I'm so glad that you're finding this helpful a year later. I hope you and you're daughter enjoy your trip this second time around!!!
Loved this video! We had heard that during the transaction, if you say "yes, change Euro to USD" they can sneak in fees because they change the conversion rate to a higher rate...so it looks like a good deal, but you're not really in control of what conversion rate they give you. It's all super confusing but I think that's what I read!
I'm planning a trip to Paris & this was super helpful ! This also isn't the first time I heard about the scammers trying to get you to sign something !
Super helpful tips, especially the pick pocketers! Thanks, girl!! 👍🏼 The French language doesn't have AM/PM, so that's why they use military time. One of the few things that stuck from French class haha!
Yes, they have am and pm but just don't call it that. "Du matin = morning; de l'après-midi = in the afternoon; du soir = in the evening. 24 hour time is used for trains, museums, sometimes for restaurants and for official business. Most people don't use it otherwise.
Nice video. I personally like Military or 24 hr time. There is no room for confusion with it. I agree with everything you said except for the Paris Pass. It may work for some though. The French language is very hard for me other than the basics. I do try though even though it is with an American accent.
Thanks so much for your great and informative videos about Paris! They bring back classic memories of my first ever solo weekend in the city. And you're absolutely right about the Paris Museum Pass and access to public transportation, especially on the RER. Using them and learning the language make you appreciate the Parisians' way of life that much more and those experiences therein transform you into a TRAVELER, not a tourist:)
I’m from Paris welcome 🙏 it’s beautiful city to visiting and i know French people they are not friendly but you can always meet beautiful peoples so welcome to are coco Channel 💃🏽💃🏽💄
We’re thinking about spending 2 nights in Paris once we fly into AMS. It scares me about the pick pocket scams. Can you even get into the Eiffel Tower without the long waits? I like the idea of buying your tickets early and going to the top. I’m going to think my husband just wants to skip Paris altogether. What’s so amazing about it that I can persuade him to go? Would you suggest renting a car from AMS to Paris? I heard the parking is crazy!! Anything you have to say would be awesome. Thank you so much!
I'm giving you mad respect for your page I love it love it love it love it love it!. God willing this year in the summertime me and my two baby girls will be going to France and your video and tips are extremely helpful and important to me so I thank you so much for this video. May God continue to bless you with many many many Health prosperity and success😘😘😘😘 PS I just subscribed to your Channel!
Also, where did you stayed? I am going in May for our honeymoon and it is our first time in France. I am a little nervous or scared about the transportation from the airport to the hotel. We didn't buy the taxi ticket or transport pass from airport to hotel. Do you recommend it? We will be staying at one of the hotels close to Eiffel tower. So what do you recommend? Buy trans pass in advance (online) or use bus?
+Ed Duarte (iWorship) Hi Ed! First, congratulations on your wedding! I can only recommend what I know, I haven't heard of the taxi ticket or transpass. For transportation to and from the airport we used Super Shuttle. You have to pay for the shuttle online. SuperShuttle is very reliable as far as I'm concerned. I did have some issues leaving Paris due to the taxi strike. So, I had to catch the train to the airport when I was leaving. My mother and stepfather left later than me and used the shuttle to get back to the airport, they said it's very reliable. If you are interested, just google Super Shuttle and it'll take you there. Yes, you should definitely carry cash. Especially if you see something you may want to buy from a street vendor. You don't want those people to have your credit card info. I was there for 4 days I had about 200 euros worth of cash on me and the rest was on a credit card. The street tour we took came as an option in the Paris Pass that I talked about. So, it was already paid for. My guess is they take cash and credit. However, your hotel should have information on walking tours when you get there. We stayed in two hotels. The first hotel was in Porte De Clichy, the Holiday Inn, I believe. The name escapes me. Then we stayed at the Paris Marriott Rive Gauche Hotel. Keep in mind, hotel rooms are very small in Paris. So, a deluxe room or something with a fancy name will not be as big as you think it is. I will say though, the rooms in the Marriot were sized like a hotel room in America. I would've much preferred to stay there the entire trip. I hope answered your questions. If you have anymore questions just ask away. Don't be nervous. I know the language barrier can be intimidating but the people are alot nicer than you would think. I hope you and your wife enjoy your trip!!
Some good tips, thank you. I've read that the Capital One card gets you on the exchange rate and is worse than many other cards because of this. Many credit union cards only charge 1-2% and give you an even/honest exchange rate. And that is better than a "0% fee" card that gives you a poor conversion rate.
I was wondering about the wall outlets like to charge your phone and stuff. Are they different? Do you need to buy an adapter? I'm going in April for my bday!!

Love your tips! I see that you recommend the Paris Pass. Did you use the Paris Pass? I am looking into it, but I am wondering if there is a shorter wait in lines for having it and things like that. We are going in July (with our baby) and I am planning our days so we do NOT waste a second :)
I'm 25 years and speak some French and going to Paris for the first time this summer (July). Thank you so much for making this video! Tu es trop mignon! Merci encore!
It's feminine so: Tu es trop mignonne.
I'm leaving for Paris in an hour and I'm NOT prepared, so thank you !!!
For military time there’s a simple trick. After 12 noon subtract 12 from the time and it’ll give you the none military time.

Going to Paris on Sept 18th from London for the day!
Love your tips. This gives me an insight what to watch for. Y
This was very informative. Do you have a recommendation for an area to rent an apartment?

Pickpockets young groups are often located between Opera and Concorde metro stations. These fist scams are also located in Montmartre.
So helpful! Thank you girl!
Going in a week , really helpful !
Super! Merci pour le partage ☺️
This is so helpful !!
Thanks girl :) you helped me a lot ❤️
Some good tips, thank you. I've read that the Capital One card gets you on the exchange rate and is worse than many other cards because of this. Many credit union cards only charge 1-2% and give you an even/honest exchange rate. And that is better than a "0% fee" card that gives you a poor conversion rate.
Great Video.... Helpful Tips... Thanks for posting.
Excellent video!
I loved your tips :) get back on here and make some more videos :)
I was wondering about the wall outlets like to charge your phone and stuff. Are they different? Do you need to buy an adapter? I'm going in April for my bday!!
