How to change your oil and replace your oil filter in your 9th generation Honda Civic (2012-2016). This is a 2014 Honda Civic EX Sedan. Your oil and oil filter change will be very similar.
Note: You may decide to purchase a new oil drain bolt and washer, it is common to replace these at each oil change. Honda recommends 3.9 Quarts of oil as there is some oil left in the engine after you drain the old oil out. You may need to add the remaining .1 Quart of oil when you check the level on the dipstick to ensure that the oil level is within the hash marks on the dipstick. Most oil filters will require only hand tightening. If your particular filter requires tightening with an oil filter wrench, it will indicate this on the filter or the box.

@@MINUTEDIYVIDEOS if you could do more videos for Honda's it will be great thank you again
Love the video. I just purchase ramps. Does all or most of the oil drain although the ramp has the car elevated? Great video!
Good job, excellent video
Thank you!
Gosh dang this was perfect
That’s crazy I have the exact same car just added some aftermarket black rims, a lip and a Mugen Style wing! Great car by the way I have the Ex, if you are considering buying a Honda buy the Ex or The Si 2014 or 2016

Take good care,
Luke
Nice video thx
Do you have to buy a new funnel every time or wash the funnel? If you wash them, do you just spray them on the ground??? Is the oil safe to be left on the ground?
Nice video! I'm from Russia. And I'm in wonder with yours nature caring: filter and oil utilization and cleanness oil drain. In my country it's a problem: many drain tanks left near parkings and along roads. I'm ashamed from my citizens. But I left drain tanks into my garage and drive to utilization point time to time. And else smb use drained oil for heating in small stove.
what's the difference between the oil filter PH6607 & PH 4967? In fact which one should i buy for a Honda Civic DL 2012 ?
awesome video. Keep up the good work!
Thanks so much!!! :)
Super great video .don't even need the sound .a+++ for the best way to deal with the oil change
+neris masiulis thank you so much!
luke
How many km have the car for 0w20? What oil you recommend for 113.000km for my 1.6idtec? 0w20?
Excelent.
Dont forget to reset the oil notification
Subbed.
Thank you!!
I must say a very point to point helpful video . Thanks
+Arjoon Sharma thank you very much :)
luke
Great video!
If you can make a video showing all the lifting points of the new Honda Civic, that would be nice. :D
Will do!
luke
How many liters of oil do you need for a 2010 Honda Civic?
Dumb question: If your car is high enough that you can go under it anyways, do you still need to put it on ramps to get that downward angle? or is that just to be able to work under a lower car? I have a CRV that I'm fairly confident I could slide under to do but I wanna know if I still need to use ramps
It’s just to be able to get under it. A Civic is so low to the ground it’s nearly impossible to do this without having it raised at least a few inches.
Hello, I used my mother’s Honda for a gnarly road trip and the metal skid plate needed removal during the trip as it, wasn’t looking the best and dragging at anything above 50 mph, is that plate really needed ?
I understand it protects my oil pan but like are these Honda low enough stock to hit the oil pan? Gonna change her oil today thank you for video
Very helpful video. Only one question: when you tighten the bolt, how much torque will you use?
Thanks! The recommended torque is 29 ft-lbs or 39 n-m :)
Thanks for asking!
luke
What do you think about adding oil to the new oil filter before installing?
Not necessary
10/10 my good sir!
Thank you :)!!
That metal engine cover plate, I can't remove those screws no matter what. I already stripped two, what should I do ugh :(
Do you have to replace the crush washer everytime or no?
You know to be honest I do it every other time when I don’t have a bag of them from Amazon. Some people even replace the bolt every time which I think is overkill for sure.
I have the same car and I want to the oil change , can I use Mobil 1 oil filter ? Or do I need to buy a specific brand ?
The Mobil 1 filter will work just fine. Make sure it’s filter # M1-110. Thanks for watching!
MINUTE DIY VIDEOS thank you so much ! And your videos are awesome !! Your the best !
Aw thanks that means a lot !! :)
Shouldn't you prime the filter?
According the my manual I will need " a special wrench to replace the oil filer. You can buy this wrench from a dealer". Is this true? I see on Amazon that there are general oil filter pliers. Help please!
Hey! Yea Walmart, Harbor Freight, and Amazon all have very inexpensive filter wrenches that work just fine! Thanks for watching and for your question!
luke
MINUTE DIY VIDEOS thanks. Awesome video. Changed the oil this morning. It's no longer under warranty so I'd rather save the money. $35 vs $78 at the dealership. If I were to include changing cabin filters, rotate tires, and inspection of vehicle, it would be $160.
👌
My Civic LX 2014 have 60,000 miles. Can I use oil 10W-30? Because I bring from USA to Honduras and here we don’t have 0W-20. Please answer me because I’m very concerned. Thanks
Hello!
You should use 5w-20 if 0w-20 isn’t available. This would be the next most similar viscosity. 10w-30 would be much thicker than 0w-20 and would be a bad choice. The first number is the thickness at start up, the second number is the thickness at the running engine temperature. Toyota and Honda recommend 5w-20 as an alternative to 0w-20 when 0w-20 is not available. But they do recommend finding 0w-20 for the next oil change you perform. Hope this helps, thanks for asking!
luke
Can i use 5w30?
I would find the 0w-20 oil that 9th generation civic was designed to use. Thicker oil will at a minimum deteriorate gas mileage.
MINUTE DIY VIDEOS and 0w40?
😂😜
You know that plate underneath the car .. is it necessary to replace ? Couple of the screws are stripped I’m bout to rip the damn thing off
Not necessary, but it does help with aerodynamics which helps with fuel economy.
Is the 2017 the same or different?
The under engine cover might look a bit different and the oil filter is moved slightly but other than that it is the same phillips head bolts on engine cover, same 17mm oil drain plug, same 0-w20 oil, same oil filter :)
Thanks for watching!
luke
Fucking perfect!
Wow thanks so much
Does it matter what kind of oil you use as long as it is 0w20???
I believe 0w20 only comes in synthetic, but if you mean brand of oil then yes you can use any maker of 0w20
Any brand of oil will do, but some people have their preferred brands. All 0w-20 will be just about the same as they are all full synthetic oil as 1020Shane points out. They may have some claims about their superiority over other brands in terms of protection and fuel efficiency, but for the most part they are all the same.
Thanks so much for watching!
luke
My dealership scolded me for asking to do my own oil, and it's better for their mechanics to do it. I have a 2018 lx sedan.
If they are so concerned ask them to do it for free and see what they think of that. ;) it’s their business model of course they don’t like that. Movie theaters hate Netflix.
If my car was still under warranty I would not do the services myself.
You will never get all the oil out, at an angle. At least check the oil level after backing off the ramps as not to overfill.
what if i use 5w20 full synthetic
*Slow clapping. It's as if you went to directors courses and Ridley Scott was the professor.
Their dust covers suck.
FRAM FILTERS ARE TRASH
Thank you!
