- Join me in the garden while I start my food forest here. I use very minimal and easy practices for planting. Using some permaculture principles and things I have learned in various parts of the world. Embracing my outback garden cowgirl s elf and chatting as I plant!
Way to go! You choose a great niche for your channel. It will help to a lot of people. 🙏 I wish a YT Gold Button! 😉
My back hurts just watching you dig that hole Keeta - I'm sending you a shovel
Haha! I was waiting for a comment on my digging skills! The soil is just sooo rocky in this area, like 80% big rocks. I only have a flat-nosed shovel right now, I need to go to the hardware store again!
Wow-zers! Any chance in creating rootings of your favorite plants, via chemical ways... Cheers!
just subscribed. i recently planted a brazilian fern tree in my fledgling food forest as well here in los angeles. while the fern tree certainly is beautiful i primarily planted it for its possible ability to supply and trade nitrogen with its neighbors. i planted it in the same hole as a black sapote. my fern tree came from my friend's huge tree. his tree provides 0% privacy because it looks like a lorax tree.
plants trade resources with each other through their roots, thanks to fungi. more resources means greater productivity. so i always put multiple plants in the same hole. the trick is optimizing diversity so they can benefit from each other's differences. it's fun experimenting with all the different possible combinations, for example... a dragon fruit, a banana, a pigeon pea, a fig, and a jackfruit. if the jackfruit doesn't make it then at least i'll have a fig tree. if they both make it then i can severely chop the fig and plant the cuttings in other groupings.
if you haven't already done so, i highly suggest subscribing to florida natural farming. he's in florida in conditions kinda similar to your own. i really love his food forest, it's easily the best i've seen on youtube.
Amazing work and greatly informative 🌈
Why thankyou kind sir
I'm so excited for your forest. I'm in the US and love to hear about the different landscapes there.
Thank you so much! Me too!! What's your landscape like there?
Sweet, delicious fruit juice all over your fingers. Have some wipes handy so your pages don't get sticky.
Great idea! haha
Looks great, Where in Aus are you? Im in midnorth coast NSW and just started my food forest also. Excited to see the progress. I too also planted finger limes first haha
They are a priority plant! I cant wait to get more of them! Im NE coast here. All the best on your food forest journey!
Greetings from Florida. Very nice video. What garden zone are you in?
Hi, thanks so much! I'm in zone 2, pretty dry, but a lot of rain lately - feels like an eternal summer. What about you?
