Seriously, what a perfect rendition of this song. Keep making music, amazing voices, harmony, musicians! Thanks for this bright spot in our world…
Couldn’t have said it any better…………….
You are really showing your age, Boomer! I’ve never heard of this song! I prefer more newer and popular songs. They are incredibly talented musicians, though and I love them.
@@mymaryland9547, and you're showing your lack of respect, child.
@@mjtala Is that the best that you got, dude? 🤣😂🤣😂
Yeah, and they might also want to work up the Airplane version since they definitely have the voices...
Standing watch on the signal bridge of a US Destroyer on a Med cruise during wartime. We had 2 cassettes and this was one of them. Stopped counting how many times we had to rewind that cassette with a pencil. Sailing the Mediterranean at night with that song in the background will leave an impression on you. This was awesome guys. Thanks
One Navy vet (MMN2, SSBN 659) to another, thank you for your service.
Thank you for your service. Salute……..2
I feel ya brother. DDG-6 for me
Thanks for your service Sailor ❤🇺🇲
Johnny Pike's drumming really shines on this one. 🥁
Love Johnny pikes drum work. 👍🏻👍🏻
It's great but its the guitar work really creates the atmosphere; Tim's voice is second to none.
Yes I have to agree, the drumming is just right, I would love to see F&F live but sadly living in the UK dont think its going to happen any day soon
F & F is a great band! The have been following them for years. They never let you down.
Johnny and Rick do an awesome job keeping things on track. I miss Scott, but Rick is really good.
an iconic anthem of our youth oh how we knew all the answers back then...i was so much older then...i am younger than that now.
It takes a tremendous amount of planning and work to make these videos. Thats why we love the Foxes and Fossils
What’s fantastic about Foxes and Fossils is how they capture the sound of the 60’s,70’s & early 80’s when music was produced with real live musicians and vocals. Nothing can compare to this sound, because it’s a real full sound. The blend of exquisite vocals and exceptional instrumental play…adds up to perfection. Well done F&F!
I will second this. ALSO, in our current politically FRAUGHT country, the idea of leaving the mess sounds like a good idea!
Spot all you say, but dont forget they are playing some up to date music all be it in possibly a 60's 70's style
F & F really raised the bar with Wooden Ships!!!❤
At this point you should just cover the entire CSN songbook and do a live show in Woodstock, New York.
Fabulous idea!!!
Agreed
Wow fox and fossils doing can songs from Woodstock
I am there when.
1969, stationed at Camp McCoy. We'd sneak into the photo lab, where we had a stereo set up, and listen to this album, Jefferson Airplane, The Rolling Stones, Sly, Jimi, and King Crimson. This song caught the zeitgeist. Concerned, confused, stoned, idealistic, and still hopeful even though the Vietnam War, the '68 convention, Kent State, and more made it feel like the world gone mad. Six decades later, I hear this recreated lovingly and gloriously. And just like 60 years ago, we are all in deep water... and I'm still hopeful today. Hearing this puts me in a good space. Your taste, talent, and perfection are exquisite, and we are blessed by them.
Glen Hulse there at the time or a guy Named Strubrud? BTW, FF does wonderfully and I couldn't agree more with your Sentiment.
Nicely said.
Sconnie proud.
Stunning rendition of the song. Well done all.
It's ironic: 55-75 yr olds being the only musicians/singers today that can replicate songs like these, that were written and recorded back in the day by 25-35 yr olds disliked by 55-75 year olds then.
But these 55-75 year olds were the audience for those 25-35 year old artists.
Sometimes I groan a little at song choices. Well, not this time! Not only one of the best song selections, but one of the most stellar performances as well. Stunning.
You groan f&f ? Ok
@@DL-ry3qg If I don't like a song, it matters not who performs it. I just pass and wait for the next one.
@@leonardblush2557that's what I think of yellow brick road. f&f did a great cover, just don't like the song whoever does it. however it still gets a like because it was well done.
@@davidvogel6359 Yep, I always give them a like even if I don't listen.
I wish i could give the ones like this one multiples.
For a brief and brilliant moment, you were the song. All of you. And that is all I could have asked for..
beautifully put.
Just when we think F&F can't outdo themselves, they outdo themselves. EPIC! Wonderful.
Fabulous Foxes and Fossils rendition of “Wooden Ships”.
Rim shots !
At 77 years old I have many groups that I love however for the past several years since i started following F&F you have become my all-time favorites. Fantastic as usual!
I have never heard any group try to cover this tune. Spectacular.
listen to SanfordMarkley 's great version, but this version is still better.
Just blown away... listened to it over and over...wowooow.
Letter perfect mix and performance. Love how the two Fossils did the Crosby and Stills lead vocals and the Foxes effectively did the CSN backups. Chilling and effective 👌
With every song F&F does I think they can’t get it better, they they do.
Every! Time!
Thank you F&F for breathing life into the music I love!
Superb song and magnificent cover. I shed a tear for times long gone when the girls' harmonies came in. I was moved and just for a few seconds, a young man again.
Fantastic. Brings back great memories of hearing CS&N perform this live back in the 80s.
For a very beautiful 5 minutes and 24 seconds, I was sent back in time.
Spectacular version of Wooden Ships. As much as I loved CS&N in my teenage years, and still do, your version is the best I've ever heard.
I feel the same way! 👍
The FOXES AND FOSSILS ARE MY PB I MEANT PERSONAL BEST BAND LOVE THEIR TALENT AND STYLE 👉👍
Breathtaking. What a remarkable performance. Especially liked Toby's sensitive playing and tone and Johnny's making some challenging drumming seem effortless.
Dang, folks, it's great when you open your pipes. You sure do it right. Thanks for posting.
Well.....I just listened to this song twice, back to back....I had the pleasure of knowing David Crosby personally....He loved when other artists covered their songs...always lent an enthusiastic ear to 'covers' of their songs...I would expect that he is looking down and giving full approval to this version. You can hear Paul Kantner's contributions as well as Stephen Stills'. Your interpretation of the song has the proper homage to the original as well as very tasteful amount of artistic license...I am so impressed. Thank you!! I'd love to sit in.....
Holy crap. These guys are just ridiculously good and just keep getting better.
Absolutely magnificent!!! Everything about this performance is perfection!! Bravo!!!
Wow! That's the best version of Wooden Ships I've heard in 54 years! Well done!
You start off with a great song. Then you think "could we do it as good"? Then you do it better! Vince Lombardy once said "if we strive for perfection, we just might achieve excellence".
Another beauty. Congratulations to Toby for a stellar solo.
I have to say that was incredible. I grew up on CSN and this took me back.
It's nice to hear this excellent rendition of a David Crosby song. He may have been a problematic person, but he wrote some fine songs and created new music even until his death. The band, as usual, turns in a flawless performance.
This was stunning! I was spellbound. I realized why this felt "better" than the original... When CSN did it, it was *their* song, a product of their talent. When F&F did it, this song had become *sacred* and they treated it as sacred as nobody else could. This was like being in a cathedral. I felt the reverence so powerfully. I hope I don't sound *too* crazy.
Not crazy at all. I'm with you.
@@leonardking84 good to hear :) thank you!
It tickles me to see a lot of gray hairs like me who grew up with this music play it so damn well. Excellent job guys and ladies.
I’ve run out of superlatives for F&F. Superb on every level. You have played a classic with excellent musicianship and great heart. Congratulations!
Wow, that really brings me back to 1969. Wonderful
Wow. Just excellent. I like the fact that the harmony by the girls is into one mic. Some smooth guitar playing boys.
The musicianship is impeccable. You have done this wonderful song great justice.
Fantastic, by any definition. Guy playing Stills' parts on the PRS has that tone down to a science. Just great.
Darwin "Dar" Conort with the PRS here. (Toby also has one.)
Toby is phenomenal.
Lordy F&F...you have Blown me Away from the First time I heard you guys Sing...I can honestly say I had Never seen such an Amazing Musician's and Singers like you guys and the effort and enjoyment you all show 👏..And that We Are lucky enough to have you share All that talent with Us❤️✌️
Wow, this is the first time I have heard your band. You guys are excellent!!
Hit the orange F&F for their list of 100+ excellent songs. They've been doing it since 2010. Still post one about once a month.
Absolutely brilliant. An absolute classic, covered absolutely brilliantly.
Damn, ya'll killed that harmony part at 3:05. Hit it right on the proverbial nose. Well done, indeed.
Man, you guys really shine on you CSN covers! Just beautiful, and you capture the feeling of the song like I've never heard it before from the original. That may be because of the way we get to see each of your members play and sing up close and personal. I really love the way you put these studio videos together! Thanks for keeping the music coming!
Pure magic, thanks for your dedication to your craft so that we mere mortals can enjoy it all through our lives!
Fantastic. Many, many thanks. Graham Nash must be in awe.
As good as the vocals were here, this is one of the rare times that F&F’s guitar steals the show.
Ricks bass was outstanding as well.
Agree, and awesome drumming
This raises the bar even higher. What an outstanding integrated performance . Love it all, but just love the drums style and sound. . ❤
I continue to marvel at Stephen Stills' musicianship, him composing all those parts for most every song - that is, for the instruments like bass-lines and keyboards, as well as the guitars. I always wonder how those three egos handled Stephen's 'insertion'. All of them were veterans of group-wars - wars inside of different combos and groups. Did these scars give rise to Crosby and Nash's bonding? Did they know enough to realize how beneficial Stephen could be to them in the mechanics of music production?
Amen.
Oh my aching god --- do you realize that this song is over 50 years old?
And, tragically, still relevant. 😢
54 to be exact.
and I'm damn near 70! with a 17 yr old spirit!
So am I :)
The old guys' musicianship really stands out on this rendering of a CSN classic. I really appreciates Toby's licks throughout, and Dar and Tim's vocals are as good as I've heard from them.
Just listened to this about 10 times in a row. Absolutely awesome. Haven't heard the original version in years.
Such a timely song choice much like "Love Is The Answer" was 4 years ago. Loved every note. You all take me far away, where I can laugh and breathe again. Thank you!
Toby magnificent . What a cover!
Darwin doing Steven Stills. Who could ask for more. Great harmonies and as a writer said, a true sacred song.
I always loved this song. I sailed a fair amount and the metaphor resonates. This is another fantastic performance by F&F; musicianship, vocal blends and production. Thank you very much.
Excellent job! on a very difficult song. Not many can pull that one off.
Best rendition I have heard since seeing Stephen Stills live in Honolulu in 1975.
Once again, I am so impressed with F &F. I love everything about this performance: vocals, instrumentals, engineering, everything. kudos to all the foxes and the fossils!
The boys would be proud of your rendition !
Incredible cover, as crazy as this may sound it rivals the original version released on Croby, Stills and Nash debut album in 1969. My favorite version was the one done by the Jefferson Airplane on their Volunteers album. However your version has now replaced the Airplanes version as my favorite. The guitar work is amazing, each one perfectly balanced with timely fills and leads. The production is typically very tight and Tim shows us once again he is at the top of his game! The ladies harmonies are beautiful as always, seamlessly integrated into the song. This cover has now climbed to the top of my list- you are a very talented band bringing another gem to your fans . Well done!!
These people turned a masterpiece into another masterpiece. What to say, except that I wish the best for you all. Thani you very much for your time and efforts for bringing this masterpiece to another level.
I am no musician but i can see how technically difficult this song is. Bravo to everyone for making such a brilliant job of it. Pure skill.
Phenomenal performance by everyone!!!! Also really love the guitar work by Toby and Darwin!!! First time I saw CSN was in 1978, and several times through the years. Most recently saw David Crosby perform this live in 2018. An amazing show!!! Again, great performance by everyone in F & F!!!!
These guys are unbelievably incredible
WOW! Johnny Pike, showing your jazz chops. Well done and spectacular...as always!!
( we all know it wasn't take 36, lol)
Incredible, just plain incredible! Thank you F&F!!!
First thing I'm going to say is I'm going to give these guys a real big thumbs up 👍. Very rarely do I hear an unknown group online video doing a cover that I say that good but these guys difinitly get my 👍 up. I was in the music business from 1966 to 1969 and still trying to figure out why it left. 1966 at the age of 19 I was involved with promoting the first Byrds concert on the East Coast and we hired the Young Rascals who were still playing clubs as the opening act. I hooked up with the Rascals and promoted 3 more concerts with them and spent the next 3;years in their inner circle. I was in the studio with them for most of those 3 years from Lonely To Long through People Got To Be Free. Got to see the Rascals playing in clubs and if you want to talk about the greatest cover band in the world back then it was the Rascals. But I see so many videos online with unknown groups or even young people in their homes doing covers which are ok sometimes but nothing special most of time just really bad. And I read the comments and people saying how great they are I'm going okay public doesn't know. One of the best cover bands ever saw was a group called the Candymen who came to New York probably 1967 and played the most famous club in the city called Steve Paul Scene which always had some recording musicians in the audience. These guys play dead two nights I believe and was the same time that Pet sounds came out with Good Vibrations on it. Well I think it was the day after the song came out and these guys came in the second night and played good vibrations and it blew everybody away. I was there both nights with one of the Rascals and even he couldn't believe how great they sounded. So I'm just an old guy reminiscing a little bit but I want to let these guys know somebody who really knows likes them.
@@lynwessel2471 you definitely miss understood my comment. I'm talking about all the different people or groups on UA-cam who do lousy or nothing special covers and people commenting how good they sound. F&F is one group doing covers. That one that sounds good out of thousands that sound like nothing special or worse. And I would list F&F as a decent cover band but nothing that special anyway. So I difinitly stand by my comment and if you understand it now I think you would have to agree that most of this videos on here are nothing special like I said.
@@lynwessel2471 give it a rest. You really are off base, don't know what your talking about and it's really tiresome having you replying to me. I'm a guy who worked with and knew the biggest artists in music who asked me and respected my opinion and who are you again.
I agree with everyone’s comments! You guys NEVER disappoint. Absolutely awesome! What an amazing group of professionals. I hope you all get to tour the southwest sometime…I WILL BE THERE!
What a great example of F&F’s experienced musicianship and spot-on vocals. ❤
Goose bumps...what a cover of one of the greatest bands and one their best songs...KUDOs!!!!
Soulful and breathes new life into the original...so very well done.
Since the first time I would listen to this band, I’ve thought ( and still think) they’re a most excellent band in how they cover such great songs and music. They not only create an incredible rendition of the song, but bring great tribute to the original band(s)!
I honestly do not know if that can be done any better. I've probably listened to it 100 times since you posted it and it is just flawless and the ladies add something that just seemed to be missing from the original, that you never really knew needed to be there.
Don't be surprised if there are fewer comments than usual on this one. There isn't much to say except, "Wow!"
You guys give me shivers, taking on every song I use to listen to as a teenager!!! This one, along with Carry On still sound amazing to this day!!! Thank You!!!!!!
Yep, 1969, Hill 55, in a mortar battery, outside Danang, bought this and listened to Wooden Ships album over and over. You guys made it beautiful again. Thanks!
Thank you for your service.
FOXES & FOSSILS COVER OF CROSBY,STILLS & NASH SONG WOODEN SHIPS-PERFECT-!!!🎉🎉🎉👍👍👍🥳🥳🥳😀😀😀
Wow. You folks tackle some really complex pieces and do it well. CSNY is music I grew up listening to. This makes it fresh again.
I'm amazed! No one tries to cover this besides F&F! Great work!
I do not fully know why this one made me so emotional. Reminded me of my time in the Navy when this song came out. ANOTHER OUTSTANDING performance by Foxes and Fossils. Thank you
OH MY GOODNESS. PERFECT.
Greatest cover band in the galaxy.
My favorite CS&N song! This cover is absolutely stunning! Awesome job everyone! Thank you!
Absolutely stunning from the fossils here, on a very difficult song, with superb musicianship, arrangement and production - and the foxes added a lot with their harmonies. Keep them coming.
OMG……!!
this was so well done my eyes swelled with tears…
and when the foxes’ singing kicked in I simply gasped…..
this production was simply superb….!!
what a great team…..!!
Simply a wonderful song when I was 16 years old. I've listened to it I'm certain hundreds of times. What a great rendition. Wonderful job guys. Just brings back the good times and memories of the late '60s and '70s. Congratulations!
As Steve Jobs would have said, oh wow, oh wow, oh wow. I wanted this to go on forever I was so lost in the music, F&F at its very best.
Wow. Fantastic!
Totally awesome....70 something here who got smoke in my eyes from this song.... but Crosby's voice will always be mixed.
One of my favorites, by one of my favorite bands. You guys and gals are the greatest. Not an easy song...done superbly. Thanks for the memories. I'm gonna go play the whole album, both of the early CS&N and CSN&Y. Dynamite!
This takes me back! I wish I could literally go back 😢.
Thank you F & Fs, you put new meaning on how to deliver a song and boy it was lovely to see your faces again after just too long a time. Stay well all of you.
(They post a song every month)
Hi Lyn, thanks, but been out of electronic reach / contact for a while and F & F deprivation is hard to put up with. Trust all are well? Cheers from Melbourne Australia.
I love all your covers but this one is #1. The musicians came to slay!
One of the best versions ever! Kind regards from Europe (The Netherlands).
Stellar! Stellar musicianship, stellar vovals, stellar arranging, production, and editing.... Just stellar!
Layer upon layer upon layer of musical brilliance.
Simply breathtaking... so faithful to the original and yet all your own. I love the emotions you've evoked in me on this one.
That was AMAZING! Wow. 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
Phenomenal! I close my eyes and it takes me back to CA Bay Area in the 60's. More please...!
And again....WOW excellent music F&F is awesome, always right blend and talent. Works for me every time
