Bowie brought me to Iggy. I had no idea. What a decent guy he seems to be. I never realized Passenger was him. Love that song. Can anyone else see that Jagger got all his moves from Iggy? A lot of his music too.
Iggy is a massive JB fan.He once described "Sister Midnight" as a cross between James Brown meets Kraftwerk. People at the time laughed at him, but he was right. When I first saw him in 1977, with DB on keyboards, Ig was a cross between Jim Morrison and JB. On his radio show he always plays his music. "Fun House" is based on "Licking Stick-Licking Stick". "Five Foot One" is another JB influenced track. Ig even played the legendary "Live At The Apollo", just before The Stooges came onstage at Hammersmith in 2010.
I don't know what people mean by "He does not look right in a suit"???????He looks amazing in a suit.It is very attractive and he looks like a gentleman!Jerks.
Last I heard iggy was living in Miami where he did an interview with Anthony Bourdain at a health food restaurant , such a sweet and nice guys both ( iggy and tony) closing scene...Iggy and tony walking on the beach toward sunset Sweet! Rip David Bowie
I love you Iggy what a great inspiration what a dynamic human being! and now in your 70s you've grown into such a beautiful man it baffles me when I was a kid you used to frighten me and now I think you're the best thing ever
You know you're a bit over the top when David Bowie takes you to one side and suggests you don't need to be quite so histrionic LOL Love them both RIP Spaceboy. Much missed. Never forgotten.
i find it a lil too ironic that Bowie somehow picked up on Iggys vocal demeanour from igs influnece and vice versa...damn two auspicious artists. gotta love them both. 😊
Iggy, and Bowie! When I think of a powerful voice, the two are synomiss. The thing with both of these great artists. The way their voices just raise up and resonate.
When Iggy Pop was in Vancouver (March 4, 1987) receiving his "Gold Album" he was in town opening for The Pretenders the next day, March 5, 1987 @ the Pacific Coliseum. 1:36
OMG THIS IS WHY I LOVE THEM SOOOOO MUCH!!! .... true friendship esp wen its so miss matched like this it is so real and true it literally gives me a warm embracing feeling inside and i literally cant take the smile off my face .... OH MY GOOOOD...***>X
Thanks for putting this together and posting....I was a kid growing up in Toronto, and the MuchMusic interviews at that time were so good....great to be able to catch up on the ones I didn't get to watch.
"Shades," is a Classic Song! We played it to Death at Parties in Amanda Sloan's in Townhead, Coatbridge! So cool!!!!!!!!!!!! So many Memories, to "Iain Gardner and "Janice Page! Too bad "Iggy didn't get to Honour one of our "Heroes!"
I don't think "underrated" is what you can call those albums. They are very much rated. I constantly see them in lists about the best albums of the 70's. They are absolutely not underrated.
@@mattiassvanberg8292 They WERE absolutely underrated by the record buying public when they were released. They didn't sell shit. Even with the Bowie hype.
@@michaelward9880 They *were*, yes, but say that you mean when they came out then, because today they're absolutely not underrated. I wouldn't say they were it then either, because influence isn't measured in how many records you sell. The Velvet Underground's debut album is considered one of, if not the most influential rock album and it didn't sell shit back then. But as Brian Eno said, everyone who bought the album went home and started their own bands. Many of those bands and artists became huge and influenced others as well until today. I know many who loved "Lust For Life" and "The Idiot" when they came out. The latter was a huge influence on Ian Curtis and the british post punk scene.
He was performing the Bowie period songs live to the exclusion of the rest of his catalogue the summer before Bowie died. I wondered then what it meant.
Parted on good terms though. Sometimes thats the best thing to do. He also mentioned in another interview that he wouldn't rule out working with him again.
Jim received a Gold for Blah Blah Blah in the clip and the A&M rep hoped for Platinum (in Canada). David did some backing vocals on the album and co wrote songs with Jim. Jim was in some financial trouble (so the story goes). He knew what he had to do and he did it tastefully. I liked the record.
Vidéo, interview and Songs, are very good🔥David speak from Iggy👍Wilde 👶 Child🌹quel est le titre de la chanson après Bang Bang (dans la nature, sublime song💕)?thank you for réponse 🙋♀️
>The guy single handedly molded punk, grunge, garage revival..most of post 70's r'n'r and he gets a first platinum 30years later because his song was sung by Bowie?! ;( Goes to show so many people are just ignorant idiots;( Iggy will be considered one day the way we consider Hemingway,Baudlaire,Tolstoy,Kerouack.. all marginal individuals at one time..
Brilliant observation...100% behind your every word. His personal 'Lust For Life' is invigorating...life-changing...life-giving...and ever-so inspiring. I too found it frustrating and NOT correct that his genius had to be acknowledged via the Bowie connection/conduit. Not fair indeed!
Bowie was able to channel Iggy's work into a more commercial and mainstream orientated format, without losing the essence of Iggy. Same as he did for Lou Reed and Transformer. That was his gift, and something both Iggy and Lou Reed were grateful for at times.
Brad Ley I understand your premise, I'm not much a Lou Reed fan. I find Iggy and his music fascinating though, and while British bands played a part in influencing punk, new wave, garage rock, etc, I think it's remiss to discredit the impact of Iggy, MC5, Blue Cheer, Velvet Underground, and other American acts on everything from punk and new wave to avant garde. I'm not a huge Ramones fan, but I find the Sex Pistols even more Neanderthal and derivative. I love Sabbath, Animals, Bowie, Buzzcocks and other early edgy British acts but punk is really an Anglo American creation that pulled influence from both sides of the Atlantic. I think Billy Idol would never have existed without Iggy, yet he incorporated that influence in a more mainstream manner, making him perhaps a parody of punk. You can spin things any number of ways really...

Another thing I owe David..he brought me to the fabulous
Iggy Pop.

Iggy is a great artist in my book. Especially live, his performance will never leave you. Good or Bad, it'll cut a crevice in your brain.
Iggy is sooo underated..
The living, KING of all Rock and Roll👍

"He's London and I'm Detroit." LMAO!
Iggy I have so much love for. I've seen him live 4 times and one of those I was 5 months pregnant. HE. IS. A. POET!
I love you Iggy what a great inspiration what a dynamic human being! and now in your 70s you've grown into such a beautiful man it baffles me when I was a kid you used to frighten me and now I think you're the best thing ever
What a rarity this is. I'm a big Bowie and Iggy fan, thanks a lot for this redsails.
Iggy is the fuckin man! Sorry you lost him Jim, now it is "life after Bowie".
When he says he was throwing a little shade at Bowie for being the fashion icon. Adorable. David Bowie brought me here.
You know you're a bit over the top when David Bowie takes you to one side and suggests you don't need to be quite so histrionic LOL

David Bowie, his music is a piece of my life. To all concerned, Amen!!
Bowie is quite a nurturing guy too, you can tell if hes on board with you hes very supportive!
i find it a lil too ironic that Bowie somehow picked up on Iggys vocal demeanour from igs influnece and vice versa...damn two auspicious artists. gotta love them both. 😊
To have David Bowie call you a brilliant lyricist, to have someone from the franchised world understand you is a great thing
Iggy's cd Blah,Blah,Blah is simply EXCELLENT!
Such great friends, great to see, love both of them , true legends
THANK YOU REDSAILS!!!!! Much love for all you do. Sincerely!!!!
Great piece. Long time Stooges and Iggy solo work. Detroiter forever.

I've never gotten over discovering Iggy, and at the time I thought I knew and understood EVERYTHING. I had so much to learn. Thanks, Ig.
Real soulmates this 2
Awe its cute when hes talking about collaborating on lyrics, part of its like playing like we all did when we were wee kids
All the best to you REDSAILS!! First time I watching this clips, certainly not the last.. Take care!!
Very likable guy.
I've always loved "Blah Blah Blah"! The track "Hideaway" is a gem!! Great work

Opposites and brilliant both of them!
I love the comment : he is slick and I am what I am :)
What a team.
Wonderful, thank you.
Thanks for sharing!
Bowie and Iggy!!
Mother of God, Bowie's voice, I just can't even watch this with out dying...
I could listen to Bowie or Iggy talk for hours
I think it's just because we're not used to seeing Iggy in a SHIRT, period!!!! :)
"The Idiot" and "Lust for Life" are my two favorite Iggy records. Very underrated.

Iggy is strangely silent on his friend's death. One can only speculate he is devastated.
He was performing the Bowie period songs live to the exclusion of the rest of his catalogue the summer before Bowie died. I wondered then what it meant.
Grinderman what interview?
@ is it a video or article? if its a video do you know the time stamp?
Parted on good terms though. Sometimes thats the best thing to do. He also mentioned in another interview that he wouldn't rule out working with him again.
Iggy is the last of an ancient breed. The last of his species, making cave art waiting to go extinct. Last man standing

REAL WILD CHILD? THAT song is THE definitive Rock n Roll song EVER!
Yeah written by an Australian OLd R & R idol Johnny O'Keefe 1958/9 somewhere there ?
@@nicbing2598 I dont know who it was that wrote it. All I know, is that its 'my' favourite R&R song. (and always will be). :)
We gotta go?
"...we're very happy this way." awww
I also like the Iggy Pop/Steve Jones songs on the album, not to mention Jones's "cannonball guitar solo" on Cry for Love.
Thanks for uploading!
thank you :)
Love those guys ❤️
Erdal Kizilçay was in the middle of everything at that time. Between Bowie & I.Pop
As much as I love Iggy it's hard seeing him sing to these pop tunes. God the 80's were awful!
I like this song, but the production is a bit too 80's. Wish it was written 10 years earlier
I know what you mean....hahahaha but the king of rock and roll can do whatever he wants!😁👍
80s were trash when it came to hard rock - it all started to sound like the music industry vampire sound.
Wow he looks so different and polished
The European cannon meets the midwest.

Iggy looked like Fred Armisen back then ;)
