Totally agree, I'd consider heavy cardio in the -10 and below an indulgence and not great for me; but have a hard time not breaking my own rules when conditions are good.
PintoPonyProductions My dad was a pretty good runner, but he ruined his orienteering "career" by running intervals in cold weather. It is not worth it.
honestly after reading this title and after viewing your other videos my first thought was replacing the wheels on inline skates with pizza cutter blades ...
Your faster than me on regular blades then I am on my speed skates lol I have only used my speed skates once though... I've been skating for 4 years... Started with rentals, got a pair of nice quads (used those for a year), got new blades (used those for 3 years I think 72mm wheels) now I'm on to vanilla assassins with 100mm wheels... And I'm always the fastest at the rink which makes me feel pretty good lol.. I wish I could meet you and race you. Just even getting to meet you in real life for a tip or 2 on how to start your sprints. Or how to do faster sprints. I cant sprint in a straight line on my vanillas yet but I can on my old blades. I can sprint the turns though.. Well anyway keep up your great skating!!!!!!!!!!! Amazing... And I can't believe I forgot to subscribe...
HA! Typical bill, I agree with the guy under me. Then again I have found myself skating in blizzards and rain storms, the wind and precipitation adds an extra challenge to things. Thanks for the video bill, it's actually funny because I've been checking those ice blades out for quite some time. They're perfect for, my SEBA Fr 1's. I might just have to get them.
I had no idea that you could skate on grass and paths. I thought it was just on ice rinks and frozen lakes. I love the horse whinny at the end. I had a flashback and thought Adam Ant was about to start singing Stand and Deliver!
hey Bill! love your videos! I think you may have been slightly slower because the hockey skates have a slanted blade giving a more forward position better for sprinting it out, however I'd like to see the test re-done using the transformer hockey v2 blades instead of the freestyle blades used in this video so as to get a better comparison... pretty please with a cherry on top lol... I only ask cuz I'm trying to decide which blades to buy and know that you would give an honest review and comparison👍
One question bill, how do you grip the ice during strides. I found that nearly impossible when I was skating with rental blades. One of the skaters says it's because the rental blades are dull, he also said I should buy by own skates , because the way I was skating made it seem like I want to skate I simply just couldn't get the friction everyone else zooming past me was.
I once had an 9 year break from ice (living in UK). When I moved back to Canada I skated in rentals my first time. I was shocked to find I could no longer ice skate...at all. I felt like a 'spoiled sport' but I'd hoped it was the sharpening, I asked for a sharpening, and was hugely relieved when I found that all my inline experience had actually made me a better skater over the years...the skates were indeed the problem. Your own ice gear is key, And sharpening should consider your weight and other needs. Your skater friend was right on both counts. I saw your road skating A, you should be flying on ice.
Don't think about pushing. Instead, think about gliding. The pushing automatically happens when you transfer your body weight back and forth from the left foot to the right foot. Focus your mind on Gliding for as long as you can on the left foot, then Gliding for as long as you can on the right foot. Back..and forth..in a steady..rhythm. That back-and-forth gliding creates the pushing for you. Again, don't think about pushing, instead think about gliding. Glide...Glide...Glide...Glide....
Huh. Came across this video & realised that my 20 dollar cheap as crap (& well....just crap, but the duracel version of crap) inlines that convert to ice skates, are the same as these! Now I have a name for them "ice-blades". Though mine are a no-name brand, they just keep on going...and going....and going... ;-)
+PintoPonyProductions I am going to try my re-named "ice-blades" at hockey practice after seeing your test in this video. I generally have to borrow skates & gear that are 2sizes too big. Since I'm a newbie at skating in general, the other equipment doesnt matter so much right now except to give me protection when I fall. ;-) I can only hope to acheive such balance & stability that you show in your videos. Instead, for me? just being able to stop would be nice... yet to manage that! :-D
damn, where I live just got coated with frozen rain and I know it's all gonna freeze over, but the Freestyle Ice Blades are on backorder at proskatersplace! damn...
I just have the same equipment recently. Mine is very sharp and grippy on ice (much better than the ice skates for rent) but too grippy to do a hockey stop.
I forgot how great this video is! I just got some Transformer freestyle ice blades and they fit perfectly on my Twisters. Did you need to get the edges sharpened? not sure where to do that in Singapore...
I wander what is the total height after you put on the ice blade....? Did it feel like the height when you put on a 80 mm wheel? or did it feel like when you put on wheels rhat are 100+ mm in size? And.... is that blade custome made? I do not know there are blades can feet onto inline skate........looks interesting. I am surprised that you did not feel much difference. with your blades locked toward outside but your chasis remain in the center of the sole, it.....should feel kind of strange... well, looks like you got use to it just that fast!
A full set of 80mm wheels with bearings and spaces is around 440g. Ice blades come at 150g. Your wheel and blade position remains the same as they are centred in the frames. The only difference I can think of is the inverse of grip (i.e. more lean on wheels = less grip, more lean on ice blades = more grip).
I just bought these blades and I brought them to National to sharpen. They said they weren't able to sharpen them because the steel wasn't high quality and the texture made it impossible. Do you have a recommendation on what to do with them now or a place in TO to sharpen them?
Not sure if you're still wondering, but the large size ice blades will fit on some, but not all, small size UFS frames. Loco Skates has more info about this on their site. HTH
You know what would be cool. put a blade around the wheels on a roller blade (May have to remove one and reposition) then you can skate and roll at the same time (only on ice tho because its a blade but you will be able to glide longer... Much longer)
Can someone answer for me, what is better to buy a cheap pair of hockey skates, or to get these blades? They are about the same price. I feel that the cheap skates would have better ice performance but my inline skates would be more comfortable as they are rollerblade twisters.
did you ever get your answer? I have a pair of hockey blades but i hate how loose they are. Like what is the point of them being ankle high if the laces cant to much for it? I recently thought about buying some thing like this and using my regular skates.
He is indeed the Dealness of Realness; Part man part Pinto, the Human Medicine bag.He forgot to add that when your new to installing these blades its easy to under tighten them and lose nuts so he carries around a big wrinkled nut sack just in case he should need it. Never be caught without your tools fellas.
Hello, 9 months later. This is "Minde Darr" I was just on my moms account. Did you ever get the blades? I've been using mine 10 months now and I'm finally about to move on to 110mm bonts. Maybe luiginos I'm not sure yet. It all depends on how much money I get from my current bmx bike and my current vanillas
Awesome........ Wish I lived in a colder place... Florida is hot and boring! I wonder what kind of hollow you had on your blades... The local ice rink skates are dull as shit and last time I was there I was just gliding ontop of the ice the whole time... Not being able to "dig in" or do any type of sprinting.... I'm a big / tall guy too.. Think I need atleast 1/2 or 3/8s cut..
what will be better for ice skating fitness skates ( light ) or freeride skates ( heavy ) ? what is the best type of inline skates for using on ice and ground?
Hello there mate.ive been watching and following you're channel. You are a motivational inspiring individual. I have a few things to ask. Can these blades fit on bauers vapor x40?
You dude are quick at adapting to different terrain,I know ice skating is easier than Inlines but, when i buy plastic Inlines will it stay good on my feet and where do i get those blades,i am a ice Hockey skater that is lvl 1 and been teached to jump, but you are inline guy and you do better
BOSH Clan skating on ice is so much more forgiving, turning, stopping, your foot is able to slide into the correct position which is much more difficult on wheels
I was wondering if you could do this to roller blades? Im a figure skater and I plan on getting a nice pair of skates, but I don't want the stereotypical white jacksons look. Wow I've never seen a frozen landscape like that with ice on every surface, amazing and looks really fun!
Right??!!!
I'm like...must be canada...
*sees flag*
Yup...knew it!
just casually entering a park of ice...
I first though "that's s some real shitty lake ice", that's before i noticed it's the entire street covered in ice.
here in toronto it’s common for the weather to leave a blanket of ice like this over the whole city

You did a 2h skating session at -18'C ?!? WTF!! When it's -18'C I don't go outside. Around -10'C is my limit where I can do sports. Respect!
I hear you, getting the skates on is the hardest part, almost enough to keep me in. Luckily I get very warm once skating.
After my hockey practice i can go with only a T-shirt for 30mins.
Skating makes you warm!
PintoPonyProductions
If it is -18 you should use some kind of mask. I generally don't do any cardio when it is -15 or colder.
Totally agree, I'd consider heavy cardio in the -10 and below an indulgence and not great for me; but have a hard time not breaking my own rules when conditions are good.

My dad was a pretty good runner, but he ruined his orienteering "career" by running intervals in cold weather. It is not worth it.
makes it looks soo easy as he attaches some ice blades to his inline skates and goes ice skating outside!
honestly after reading this title and after viewing your other videos my first thought was replacing the wheels on inline skates with pizza cutter blades ...

I love your voice and narration.

The editing, background music and narrating makes the video looks like some sort of alternative film...

Toronto; with the right temps and a nearby lake...shit gets interesting.
+PintoPonyProductions I'm sooooo jealous!!!
+PintoPonyProductions And kept watching the video only to become even more jealous.......... :(
so, u skaete the lake? is it safE?

Ok now u just acting crazy💀☠ cuz Morgan freeman voice is like hearing beautiful romantic sounds
Holy heck someone watched it 🤣
pretty cool, I'll make the conversion when So Cal starts freezing over.
urban ice skates yes, but only in canada (or russia) you can urban ice skate ))
nice surroundings btw
I had no idea that you could skate on grass and paths. I thought it was just on ice rinks and frozen lakes. I love the horse whinny at the end. I had a flashback and thought Adam Ant was about to start singing Stand and Deliver!
I would love the have frozen grass land like that to skate on. I love Ice Skating, but the rink gets boring so fast.
This guy makes me happy
Too much information :)
I didn't know one could ice skate at the park! I thought you'd need some type of frozen water ie lake. I'm originally from Brazil, you see.
Hey bill, is someone hosing down those parks on purpose? Or does it ocurr naturally, like the lake effect ice or something of the sort?
How come your woods are icy here they're just powder snow doesn't work
Which gives me idea make small footprint ski sleds to mount on instead of blades...thx pls send royalties to me

This situation doesn't happen very often. I think I've seen it about 2-3 times in about 40 years here.
Would love to put these on my Sebas!
Love that fucking stride. I only hit that stride when I'm at my best.
I just have the same equipment recently. Mine is very sharp and grippy on ice (much better than the ice skates for rent) but too grippy to do a hockey stop.
I need a pair of those blades. I hope I can find them suitable for 13.2" frames.
After doing some research, I guess I'll need to buy ice blades for inline speed boots.
That is SO cool !!
Well done, Bill; you make that bumpy terrain look like a breeze!

If I may ask a question, will these work with a UFS aggressive pair of skates?
Not sure if you're still wondering, but the large size ice blades will fit on some, but not all, small size UFS frames. Loco Skates has more info about this on their site. HTH

If the ground here in Vancouver EVER gets frozen like that... it can only mean the sun has burned out. Brrrrrr....
So weird that everything is covered with ice. I don't have that luxury. I would need to make 100ft long jumps from patch to patch on a lucky day.
This uncle is crazy good
I checked Amazon, eBay, and sports stores. I got no luck because they're unavailable.

Ah, but how are they for the important stuff like scraping up a snowball?
how to setup roller hockey skates for street , freestyle skating. Is that a good idea or what?
Sir, I like your style!

Hello there mate.ive been watching and following you're channel. You are a motivational inspiring individual. I have a few things to ask. Can these blades fit on bauers vapor x40?
man i wish i had anything remotely resembling ice here in australia....
mirin your music on all videos, has a very tron vibe to it
where can I find ice blades like those, I have Soloman skate like you
Don't you get play on the rubber bushings? With the consequence of your blade not staying straight in the holder and not getting max grip/control?
Who said the bushes are Rubber ?
I tried to be a minimalist in general not to have to many skates, are you still using these nowadays? So Iam going to try these out.
Have you tired these new blades during a hockey game?
Have you played around with re-positioning the frame at all?
Wow man, that is increible, do you believe that those kind of frames can be sent up to Mexico?
Can you tell me how mch they are?
Did you have to sharpen those blades?
Off topic, but I love 60fps!!!!!!!
Hi I am wondering what type of inline skates shoe can be converted into ice skating shoes?? Can u recommend me Brand’s and model to buy
Is it more comfortable than rental skates or??
It takes this guy five minutes to lace up hockey skates? Really?
To lace properly, much longer usually.
+PintoPonyProductions hahahahahaha you're having a giggle mate, it takes like 1 min max for each foot
not even close. when I played hockey my coach would get pissed if we took more than 5 minutes to go from street clothes to on the ice
who flooeded the park over the night? Im suspicious!
how do you get these sharpened? apparently the store i whent to didnt know what to do. he was being unhelpful.
have them cut the steel seperate from the boot
where do your live where theres just ice every where

I was wondering if you could do this to roller blades? Im a figure skater and I plan on getting a nice pair of skates, but I don't want the stereotypical white jacksons look. that might work, but again if you plan on doing mostly ice skating, I would definitely recommend just buying a pair of figure skates.
do you wear protection underneath pants?
