And that attitude with the AKs is how we surprised Italy not once but twice ;). Otherwise, Ethiopians are tolerant people :)
2:44 - 3:10 Loop
it was unfortunate you went there at a wrong time I was there in January and I had the best time of my life touring Ethiopia
Elliott Thompson that’s awesome mate, do you know when it’s going to be good and bad?
Absolutely, almost everyone I've ever met says it's one of their favourite countries. I will have to go back and give it another chance some day!
Ethiopia is second home for us , best country in the world
@13.15 ENAT Bank , worst fraud bank , they take 4/5 months to pay to exporters , use the client USD , never deal with ENAT bank
After Alex Chacon accidentally found your channel, glad I did it! Thank you very much for such a piece of beautiful information! Amazing trip!
Guns are part of culture, most of Ethiopians have guns, either they are armed at all times are they have arms at home but private gun ownership is norm yet it is one of the safest countries you will find in Africa.
MeDonCare exactly . yet leftist will try to take away you’re guns .
@@paulwilliams2024 no...Liberals will try to take your guns, US is likely the only country where Liberals are concidered leftists.
Really enjoyed the form of commentary alongside the pictures aswell as you describing both good and bad moments along the road. all thumbs up!
Omg that’s so crazy, absolutely amazing trip mate. You are very brave going here alone
CHEAP JEEPER
What do you mean alone?
Great video! I love that worn AK your guide had.
Thanks !! your dedication is great!!
That my people it's our culture. That's why we are who we are brother 🤣🤣😂 I love your video it's very informative to those who want to visit.
Beautiful......please don't take too long with the lovely videos.
I love this video!!
Been there with my family. Amazing place and unforgettable experience. Love to go again one day. Kechalachu Hidu
I had no problem understanding that
@Rami Sebit .why? What's the problem with mixing it with a bit of what we know.? If you don't understand it just ask or move on.
Great adventure. when I was young I did the same thing in Mexico
This is very well edited!
Another great vid. Thanks for sharing. Steve 🇦🇺
EMU4WD where in Australia you located mate?
Cheap Jeeper Sydney
EMU4WD dam, bit far to go wheeling together
Man I think it’s really amazing that you are doing this and really appreciate the fact you do these videos. I’m going to be going on my own Jeep adventure soon from a Florida to home in Vermont, then I’ll be making my way to Washington state through Colorado to visit some friends. I know this isn’t anywhere near as many miles or as dangerous as where you’ve gone but I’ll be doing it in either an old XJ Cherokee or if I can afford it a new Jeep Gladiator! Good luck on the road!
Wow, that seems dangerous. Be careful not to get shot!
Awesome. My first Jeep was an XJ, and I've been thinking I'll have to get another one some time. Such great 'go anywhere' vehicles that just work.
Have a great trip!
The Galada Baboon is only found in Ethiopia.
Dan, great video as usual! Just wanted to mention that the capital city is Addis Abe-BA (two syllables). A few times you said only Addis Aba. I just wanted to be pedantic like that :) Happy trails and adventures in 2021!!!
My bad!
@@TheRoadChoseMe It’s a little detail - actually most Westerners only say “Addis”. At least no one was pointing a friendly yet chambered AK at you...
I have now watched ALL of your honest, informative, and helpful videos (some multiple times) and I believe it’s the only such occurrence.
Thousand thanks for not pompously pimping pointless gear, instead focusing on proven, well-thought out, effectively presented, affordable solutions for the average Joe Overlander 👏🏻 Happy trails and future adventures!
Thanks for the feedback!
Ethiopia is so different from Kenya
Ethiopia 💚💛❤
You can tell how much he liked playing with the AK bc he repeated it twice 2:40
You can visit the Blue Nile area... DAbus river and didessa river.
AKs are carried in the countryside by regular people but not in major cities.
hi greetings from Brazil. Great to watch another episode. I was wondering if you have all the GPS tracks for your Africa and South America adventure recorded and available for download. Thanks. Waiting for the next episode.
Hi Bruno, I don't keep track logs, so I don't have anything available.
Have fun out there!
@@TheRoadChoseMe thanks a lot.
The gun culture in the US is far more enthusiastic than in Ethiopia. There are about 393 million fire arms in the US. There are only about 330 million people.
I must say that i am impressed with the Jeep's reliability, I can only assume since you have yet to mention any serious problems with it.
Did you purchase it brand new?
How many miles so far?
Would be great if you made a video explaining what you've done to it as far as maintenance and repairs go. TY
His website goes into deep detail about it.
I bought it with 60k miles on it, now it has about 170k miles. No breakdowns ever, some minor mechanical repairs and lots of maintenance.
I will for sure be doing a video about all of that, once I have finished posting all the content from Africa. Thanks for the suggestion!
😎👍
Sounds like a spot to avoid
next time you take a drive please visit the most sites around the areas you drive thro for example you missed alot of very intresting places on your drive thro turkana . since you use the jeep as a camp tool , there is no need to worry about cost , such that by the timeyou are done you have so much to talk about ...its not just about drive and drive ...wish you well even as you move to the north
I agree! There are so many interesting local things to see, that aren't usually known by tourists, but only by the residents.
For instance, we live in eastern Uganda (Teso region) and there are so many cool things to do, but they aren't known by tourists.
You should take time to ask local people what they do for fun or to take you to traditional sites.
A church in Aksum Ethiopia is said to be the custodian of the Ark of the Covenant. There are however, articles that dispute it’s authenticity.
I wish I could do this
In Ethiopia, it is a tradition to own guns and to learn how to shoot. Even in weddings the Ethiopians shoot their guns as part of the celebration. This gun culture of the Ethiopians made Ethiopia the only African country that was not colonized by colonizers. The side effect of gun culture, is that when some people feel that they have been abused, they like to use their guns as a form of justice.
in nawlins we call them thangs choppas, wodie.... ya hurrd me
You should go around Asia in a jeep or motorcycle.
It's on the list for sure. I'm currently in the "saving money and dreaming" phase for whatever adventure comes next!
Was the availability of diesel different than unleaded? Also, did you installed more than one fuel filters?
That video is coming very soon!
When are you coming to Sudan
Was the experience worth the bureaucracy? Great images
Which camera 🎥 do you use?
Is that a GoPro you have mounted on your car? Did no one ever try grabbing it when you were driving through cities?
It is a goPro and I never had a single problem!
Hey bro.
I plan on doing a trip from SA to Jordan post Corona. Your videos are great and I hadn't realised about the scarcity of fuel in Ethiopia.
Do you kindly share how big your fuel tanks are how many KM/L you're getting. I'm kinda a bit surprised you had to consistantly fill up as well. I'm right now shopping for an auxiliary fuel tank for my car and your input could help me make a more educated guess.
I can carry a total of about 135L, and I burn something around 14.5L/100km. On nasty roads I'll get 600km, and on good ones 900km is achievable.
@@TheRoadChoseMe Hey sir,i like your videos,i studied travel and tourism course ,please include me in your trips ,when you are back to kenya call me,get my number from facebook ,my email:koechlen1994@gmail.com
You'll have great adventure to Jordan. Though I have two trips to make before middle East but I plan expedition from Uganda to Pakistan Karachi via Iraq, iran, israel, egypt.
Believe me you'll have an adventure of a lifetime.
On carrying gas, I often suggest you carry enough gas for something about 800km counting both your spare tank and main tank. Myself I carry 70 litres in main full tank and extra 80 litres in my spare cans that's 150 litres, enough to drive 1200km on good roads and at least 900km on bad terrains. I burn about 1ltr for every 8km. It helps me to only buy gas where I trust it's quality and often in big cities rather than the thought of failing to find diesel sellers. Most cases I can find a good town with good gas in 1000km distances or so to ensure I only buy good diesel for my Toyota Haice van
Hey Dan ... great videos and great adventures you've got here in this hidden gem / channel
I came here from Wranglestar (Cody's channel)
I was wondering if you have romanian relatives because i'm romanian and your name "Dan Grec" is romanian to me 🤔😅
My Heritage is Polish actually, I have many relatives there and in Germany too!
What brand of GPS are you using for your trip?
A cheap Garmin - I'm actually just about to film a new video about navigation!
@@TheRoadChoseMe Thanks for your response!! I will definitely watch that video on navigation.
I wonder if the owner of that car was the one being feasted on by those vultures ,after running out of gas in the middle of nowhere and alone.
No, it was clearly the cow he hit! also this wasn't super, super far from a town.
@@TheRoadChoseMe sighs ....at least.
9:01 can you imagine majority of those people make less than $100 a month
How many spare tyres do you carry in your African trips?
Just one. I decided it was too much extra weight for two, and I never did need even one actually.
@@TheRoadChoseMe Amazing! I've now decided to ditch the extra tyre to cut on weight on my upcoming trip across Sub Saharan Africa. Are the BFGs on your Jeep All or Mud Terrain?
They were KO2 All terrains. Now I run X-A/T Tires from Yokohama, love them.
In Ethiopia, it's expected of you to have gun. Almost everyone have one. It's because outsiders have tried to invade us many times. And most of the invaders were defeated by civilians without the need of governments help. But Ethiopians are tolerant and trustworthy, except you cross them. If you try to cross them there is a big chance things might go bad for you.
When Ethopia and Eritrea was one it was called Axum empire they use to get more land and you can see in the map that Somali is taken a bit by Axum the people you saw in the village don’t even look Ethopian and the government doesn’t give a shit
Have you done this kind of stuff in Australia before?
Not in Australia, no. My first expedition was from Alaska to Argentina.
I wonder what the Mursi people say about us.
5:30
You should visit Somalia 🇸🇴 next to Ethiopia 🇪🇹
lol why so he can get kidnapped
not safe at the moment
Shud_ Kipz it’s safe only down south is not safe
from 🇺🇸 if he visit to ethopia is like he visit in somalia is almost is the same think he well visit next time in somalia we ar african and we ar east african brothers we well cum every body and somalia well be safe very soon.....miss home🇸🇴
@@UNCHARTED2FANATIC good idea. Let him become food for the gods
Yo there is girl missing in ethiopia it is from my country you should go find her , she got lost in Dakali depression
I heard they found her dead I am so so sorry
she is deaaaaad
Interesting journey! It doesn't look like a place I would like to see...not much gas, hostile people and AK's everywhere...but your lucky to have experienced it!!! Your videos are always enjoyable to watch!
Well I mean that's not the full representation of Ethiopia at all. It's more than just hostile people with guns. It's too bad this video doesn't show you a broader picture, just what some people expect to see.
The tribes are hostile the regular people aren't
is that how people see my Ethiopia, it break my hart, we are just goin through some changes things will be back to normal soon enough
Hostile people?😂 Bruh what are you smoking?
The camera u filmed u make so fast not good to see around
Why drive through a country with a gas shortage? Seems a little backwards.
There was no other route possible.
Darn kids and their rocks. :(
I was 16 using Ak 47
It’s a Toyota. Just drive it away.
I don't think I believe your narration people in country side are way nicer than the people in city especially toward tourist 🤥
I found that to be true in every country I've driven through (more than 55), except one.
Ethiopia.
Whay don’t you visit Somaliland?!
I'm not sure about crossing the border and back again. Will I get a visa?
It's a rathole and lawless....dont bother.
Tourists routinely get rocks thrown at their vehicles....a lot of people don't like Eithiopia primarily because of the people.
This guys knowledge of many countries is limited....he is too busy with bolstering up how heroic he is.(Australians usually don't go in for thiis).....
Ak47 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Ethiopians are oppressed people, their goverment treat them like slaves not like human beings.
Soon there will be no more Ethiopia.
Ethiopia is really 3rd World
Stop whining!!
