I hope GW will let us buy this version of dwarfs again. This is my first box of GW models and my favourite.
It’s hard to tell, with the Orcs & Goblins they’ve brought back some very old plastics. It would appear these won’t be needed, as the lat 6th/early 7th kit covers everything you can do with this, but you never know.
I've just started doing some Dwarfs myself and by chance have gone for the same blue and white halved shields. I suspect we might both be subliminally influenced by Wayne England's Dwarfs that appeared in White Dwarf many years back.
Yours are much better than mine.
Oh I’d totally forgotten that army, I need to go and find pictures of it now!
These dwarfs look great!
Thanks mate 🙂
That is one exemplar unit of Rangers there. I've still got a soft spot for the Old Perry unit with the peg-leg Champ with the eye-patch. Saving this for painting reference!
Ah I love those Perry sculpts, perfect Rangers.
Love the 6th edition Dwarf Warriors! won an auction of 20 of these fellas before the Old World was announced and they're going to be my core so its nice to see a tutorial like this up so I can get cracking on them!
Such fun little sculpts, all the best for painting yours 🙂
Nicely done. I really don't like Contrast paints for the most part, and I'll say I thought the mini looked terrible through the first stages of the process, but once you got onto the highlights with standard acrylics, he improved dramatically. I'll have to think about trying a similar process some day soon. Thanks for this one; saved for future reference! :-)
Thank you. 🙂 I had a similar view on Contrast when they launched, but I much prefer to use underpainting and Contrast to regular flat add layers now in most cases.
Lovely job! :)
Thank you 🙂
Nice to see this in contrast to your earlier dwarf warrior tutorial using green. Can see many of the same techniques but also tweaks for getting the blues just right.
Thank you. I did question if I should cover the same thing again, but it was definitely worth it, and another way of showing new colour recipes.
Thank you thank you thank you! I've painted 40 of the more recent warriors but if I had had the choice, I'd have chosen these. Pure joy to see them so well painted :)
Thank you that’s so kind 😊
Great paintjob. A little too involved for my rank and file troops, but great none the less. I have 64 of these dwarfs (bought new 23 years ago) divided between 20 warriors w great weapon, 20 warriors w hand weapon and shield and 24 quarellers w shield. I wish I could get my hands on another box though for the nostalgia.
Thank you. Wow that is a lot, but just goes to show how versatile the kit is.
@@MiniatureRealms If teenage me would have realised that you could build rangers from the kit I would have had even more. 😁 Definitely a great kit!
I think these might be one of the best of the early 6th Ed plastic kits.
Certainly loads of character
Phwoooar I've got spod wood. Dwarf painting poppers popping. So much pop. The 'Knuckular' highlights to die for. Nice one Stuart!
😂 Thank you Paul
I love this kit so much. Great video!
Thank you.
Great paint job on a fun figure, got the cannon and a box of these when they came out......still in the building queue.
Thank you John
Great stuff Stu. Love to see the dwarfs getting a nice paint job. I’m looking forward to painting a whole bunch of them but I will sadly have to make them army three in the queue (if I can stay strong). I told Samuel I would paint up an “evil” army next after the Brets and it will make sense for that to be the TK since I bought a bunch upon the Old World release. Still maybe I can mix and match army units without feeling too guilty to get some painted up 😂😅
😂 The draw of painting Dwarfs, my own TK project is definitely on pause while l do some others.
@@MiniatureRealms I would be somewhat tempted to put mine on pause too but kind of need an evil group for Samuel’s first game
@Svengar I think you should probably stick with Plan A, they will be much quicker to paint than the Brets as well. I’d also assume that you only need 1-1250pts for a game with Samuel, so maybe room to do a few Dwarfs as well if you wanted.
@@MiniatureRealms I’m hoping and thinking that the TK will be quick to knock together and paint. Worst case scenario I will “cheat” and use a VC army list as the evil faction of which I have minis painted up already so we can play quickly. I’ve just roped a friend into the hobby. I said he could play with my armies and he actually said he wanted to give it a go painting some minis 👍
@Svengar If I had a VC army I’d definitely be rebasing it now, once done you’ve got an army ready to go.
Nicely done
Thank you.
...and don't get me started on the beards. K time for a lie down. Loved the blond ;)
😂
Ahh, I was hoping you had some of the old metal Rangers.
Sadly I foolishly sold them years ago. I imagine we will see Bugmans Rangers on a Made to Order with the Dwarf release, so I might be tempted to grab some.
Excellent job! I love the old minis!
Thank you 🙂
Great tutorial! What brushes are you using for speedpaints / contrast? I find that my brushes get battered so quickly with these types of paint
Thank you. I use Rosemary & Co Series 33 (though a Broken Toad brush was also used in this). I’ve not found that issue myself, lots of washing between colours, don’t let paint get into the ferrule, and good brush care with soap in between sessions.
wow! I love these dwarfs. and the paintjob is gorgeous I especially like the red nose.
like @andersellmo I have a lot of them (and I kept the box ;)) some of them I will build as Rangers someday ...
Thank you. 😊 I think I’m going to keep my box too, or at least save the front and maybe frame.
@@MiniatureRealmsthe box should be able to fold up flat again and would be well worth keeping for posterity 😀
I couldn’t see correctly. We’re the crossbows you glued to the backs of these included as bits in the box or did you use the ones that had a hand in them and filing them down?
A bit of both actually, there are some on the sprue but not enough, so some I trimmed the hands off and hid it under the shield a little.
Are you using magnifying lamp or glasses when painting?
No I find them a bit clunky to use and get into position, just my eyes and reading glasses.
Hi Stewart. How long did it take for the 10 rangers to that level?
It’s hard to tell exactly as filming slows the process down a little, but 10hrs or so is my guess.
Good work, what brush do you use?
Thank you. I mostly use Rosemary and Co Series 33, sizes 2, 1 & 0. Though I think a few times in this video I was using a Broken Toad size 0 (you can’t get them anymore sadly).
God, compared to Highland Miniatures Dwarves, these GW ones are incredibly shit.
That’s 23 years of design progress for you
