Yeah I think a lot of us dwarf players came up with the idea of outsourcing the Ward save to the Grugni BSB and adding Rune of Preservation pritty much independently. It’s the salting to taste that really adds the spice ironically enough with my own take being: King [314 pts] - Hand weapon - Great weapon - Full plate armour - General - Shieldbearers - Master Rune of Smiting - Rune of Fury - Rune of Preservation
Currently I like taking my king with: - Great Weapon with Runes of Fury and Parrying - Shieldbearers - Rune of Swiftness - 2 Runes of Shielding or a Rune of Preservation - A block of hammerers with a rune of confusion When charged by an enemy unit the hammerers each get +1 to their initiative and attacks characteristic, which put them up to the same initiative as the king if you give him a rune of swiftness. Plus each hammerer (when with a thane/king) can issue and accept challenges like a character, helps out if he get challenged by something particularly nasty.
I like to make mine the unhittable king of hammerland. Where I give him 2 runes of striking (boosts to WS9) and 1 rune of parrying(-1to hit rolls) then topping it off with a master rune of gromril. I also give him a great weapon. Then I stick him in a big old unit if hammerers with rune of confusion banner. Now my hammerers get to strike first before damn near anything else with 2 attacks. And anyone that dares to fight the king is never able to actually get a wound off on him, meanwhile he's able to hit as much as he pleases and will basically garuntee a won combat. If you really want to garnish the unit even further with points, throw the BSB in there with the grungni for saves purposes, and give him a couple weapon runes for his trouble to ensure even further that this unit will never loose a combat
I always loved the Thane of Pain. Granted this was pre End Times, so the rules were slightly different, but I had a Runic weapon with Mr of Swiftness, R of Cleaving and R of Fury, Gromril Armour with R of Stone, and a shield. So very fighty and very tough!
My favourite runic combo: MRoSmiting, RoFury, RoPreservation. Slightly weaker against infantry or cavalry, but much, much more potent against big stuff like monsters, characters, and so on. No ridden monster or similar nonsense will be messing around in his close proximity. Even 1 failed save can lead to a blowout.
I think my fav dwarf king is the possible set up as the super tank, it’s expensive but super high toughness in shield bearers. I’d need to re look at it but being huge wounds and huge toughness as a simple dwarf feels great.
Just go with a thane bsb the slayer king with a hammerer brick and a runesmith. Make it a point denial brick and sprinkle around lots of daemon slayers and doom seekers kitted out with the point denial tattoo. Loads of fun
I equipped my Lord on foot with - GW with Rune of Parrying & Rune of Fury - Rune of Fortitude and Rune of Preservation I've used him twice and sucessfully goaded my enemies into attacking his unit thinking he's easy to kill ("He has no ward and only a 3+ AS? Really? Hmmm"), but then realizing it's not as easy as they thought. Hisunit performed really well and even though he is not the best, I still found the points saved on him very useful spent elsewhere, like another Gyro.
Hot take: A dwarf lord with a great weapon on shieldbearer, and nothing else is also pretty good. With the 125pts of magic items, you get a dozen dwarf warriors!
I honestly like the versatility of a Dwarf king with great weapon shield bearers and for runes rune of migth x2 of fury and then a master rune of gromgril and a 2 runes of stone for armor If you are worried about lethal hits then rune of preserbation and 2 rune of shielding covers it quite well (i tend to cut the battle standard bearer out) The thing is that it is more versatile wich considering the lack of movement that it has..... lets be real you arent the one picking engagements
316 pts Hand weapon, Great weapon, Full plate armour, Shield, General, Shieldbearers, Rune of Fury, Rune of Might, Rune of Fortitude, Rune of Parrying, Rune of Shielding
best, most underrated comment ever written on youtube/life. I like to think you watched 16:40 minutes of the video keenly awaiting him to say short at any moment hahah
Yeah you can make a great Dwarf Lord, but it's a lot of points.....and slow. M3. Easily avoided. I don't think it's a good idea, but let's see it in practice. Dwarfs also don't get any Killing Blow or Monster slayer, which stinks.
Awesome vid, but isn''t your load out with 3x Rune of Fury and a Rune of Swiftness break the Rule of Three as they are all weapon Runes? What would you take instead?
That's too many points to sink in a movement 3 unit. Any opponent who knows what they're doing can dance around it unless you have some way of forcing the issue, which might be hard since including a big lord like that + a BSB with an 80pt banner is going to eat up a lot of your points and leave you with a smaller army.
I often run a lord like this in my warhall games angled forward and beside units of like quarrelers and a cannon. If a unit wants to stop my shooting on my units. He charges their flank. If they want to fight him, the back line is fine to shoot or charge into the enemies flank. And if they try shooting him off board he’s within range of a rune of grungi.
I dunno man...I guess blender lord is ok, but I can't get past the master rune of smiting. I know I know he's more of a challenge lord then but he would just hit like such a tonne of bricks.
Guys if you want to make a dwarf list and actually win don't pick a dwarf king and if you do don't go and spend an extra 200 points on a 9' charge range unit that will only give value if the opposing player is stupid If you don't care about winning go wild!
Yes, unfortunately the competitive balance of TOW is really stacked against ranked infantry and foot heroes in units, particularly killy infantry and foot heroes. It's a shame, because in many ways it's a great game. But competitively it's a total mess of MSU reserve-moving-cavalry and dragons and magic missiles and other cheese that is generally powerful in perfect correspondence to how far it deviates from what the platonic rank and flank game "should" be. A killy dwarf foot hero is basically a sitting duck in this game. You're never going to get the chance to actually hit anything that matters; your opponent will either stay away from your laughably slow unit or feed it crap to make sure you don't get any good value out of it, or they'll just send something in that can absolutely annihilate your hero before it gets to do anything. And even if you do survive and get to hit back, even the most offensively built dwarf king you can make isn't going to seriously scratch a defensively-built hero on a dragon, which will happily farm value off your expensive lord and his unit if you give it the chance. Trying to play competitive TOW right now is an exercise in frustration and frankly a bit of a waste of time.
To be honest i really think this isnt a good edition for dwarfs Magic, combat and especially cavalry and monsters are way better than infantry and dwarfs are basically all infantry with good shooting and in this edition awfull magic resistance
Dwarf content? That calls for a ROCK AND STONE!
ROCK AND STONE!!
Did I hear a Rock and Stone!?

OMG runes could only go on hand weapons in olden times, time to dig my dwarfs....

I like it.
It's similar to how I bring my Dwarf king. I do great weapon, x2 runes of fury, Rune of preservation, rune of fortitude, rune of warding.
I equipped my Lord on foot with
- GW with Rune of Parrying & Rune of Fury
- Rune of Fortitude and Rune of Preservation

Please show a battle report with this lord
With all the banners and bsb and unit that costs...something like 700 points?!
16:40 SHORT ?!

NO ALLIANCE!!

Plz take dwarfs to a tourney XD. SATISFY THE GRUDGE!!

GW 2 runes of fury and master rune of gromril and rune of preservation and shieldbearers is my loadout
I love dwarfs but I have found killy kings are just avoided due to the slow movement. Dwarfs are not terrible, but they are not good right now either.
That's too many points to sink in a movement 3 unit. Sounds like you’re not a true ally of the Dwarfs… You’re goin in the BOOK!

There are more efficient ways to do the same function. But not by that much
I dunno man...I guess blender lord is ok, but I can't get past the master rune of smiting. I know I know he's more of a challenge lord then but he would just hit like such a tonne of bricks.

Just saying you cant do the 3 runes of fury and a mr of switness on one weapon as you can top have 3 runes on each item 👍 old dwavi here so i know
Um avoid and kill everything else?
But idk. I havent had a chance to play yet. Sounds intimidating for sure as a druchii
are we talking about master rune of toughness 10? That makes your king immune to all weapons lower than str5? and makes everything else wound on 6?
