Breedlove Guitars - What Makes Them Special?

  • Paul sits down with our Breedlove rep, Colin for a brief history and an explanation of their process… which is super interesting! They source many of their own woods (like Myrtle wood) in Oregon AND have some crazy cool computer technology to help decide which wood or which appointments work best on a particular guitar. Worth watching!

I viewed a hundred videos of guitars and tried about 2 dozen but I couldn't get my hands on a Breedlove Organic Wildwood Concert, which was the one I really had my eye on, even though it was above my paygrade. I reluctantly bought it off Internet from a website based in Germany, and I could not be happier with it. It is well beyond any of my high expectations, a truly marvellous guitar, both in terms of appearance and playability. The sound is awesome for a guitar in that price range and suits my playing style (mostly fingerpicking) perfectly. I had not expected it to project so much sound, given I had previously owned Dreadnoughts mostly, this one is far more powerful than any of the (solid top / laminate back) Dreadnoughts I had owned.

I've been playing a Breedlove for about 10 years. My "new" Breedlove is an Oregon series Myrtlewood Concert. It's a beautiful guitar with a HUGE sound.

I was just playing my dad's "murderwood" Breedlove. Not only does that guitar have more bass than pretty much anything else, but it also has a ton of low mids to go with it.

Breedlove make their less expensive series offshore and I don’t think they can be compared to their US made models. Apples and oranges.. As for using downed trees when suitable, there is a growing trend in Luthery to be more environmentally responsible; reclaimed (used) wood, stump wood, sinker logs, native and alternative species, etc. I think that should be applauded.

I bought my Breedlove (acoustic/inside pickup), on a whim. Something about this guitar just sounded different. It had no external hardware, so you could not tell that it also had a pickup inside (it is hidden up inside where the neck meets the body), just a small volume wheel hidden inside the small soundhole. Plug-in is through the back guitar-strap knob. I loved the cutaway above the 12th fret. Beautiful wood, unique headstock and binding, myrtlewood back and sides. Pegless bridge was crucial in my decision with the bone inlay. I haven't played a better acoustic since I've bought mine. I highly recommend that you at least play a Breedlove before making that final decision. Forget Martin and Taylor and Yamaha and Gibson. You're paying for a name; not playability and sound. Grab one of these beauties while they are still affordable. Once you own one, you will not want to part with it anyway. I'm not a Breedlove spokesperson, just a regular guitar player for the past 45 years. Incredible sound and lovely playing.

I won't be kicking my Cole Clark or my Taylors to the curb, but Breedlove has become my all-round favorite guitar maker. I have a Redwood/Rosewood Legacy Concert and an Oregon Concertina. Between them they'll do anything I want an acoustic guitar to do, and if ambient noise gets too high I can plug 'em in too.
I hope they're doing factory tours again the next time I'm in the area.

Bought a 2007 Mastershop C25/e Rosewood/Cedar about 8 years ago and love it. I haven’t found any of the new ones to have my favorite tone palette. I personally don’t care for the sound of the Myrtlewood as well. Seems a bit bright for me. It would probably work well in a mix of other instruments though.

I purchased a Breedlove guitar (performer Concert Bourbon CE, organic performer series) for 600 dollars and I was excited and worried about spending that much for a guitar when I'm new to playing, but damn I'm so glad I did. Amazing quality, sound, durability, look and dare I say just as good as some $1,000 guitars. My next guitar is going to be a 12 string from Breedlove so I'm in love with the brand. If one of your options for buying a guitar is Breedlove, you have my recommendation.

Sorry to rain on your parade folks. I bought my Oregon series Myrtlewood Concert about a year ago. The top (The most important part for sound) has warped at the bridge. The string tension tends to pull up in this area and evidently, the bracing isn't sufficient enough to counteract this. Needless to say the sound changed too. As far as I'm concerned, this guitar just might come in handy to start a bon fire on the beach and not much else. Thanks Breedlove.

Maybe you should send it back to them, to either fix it or replace it. Then let us know what they did for you. I am sure your experience was the exception to the rule I bet. You got a bum deal.It happens to the best of us and the worst.lol My wife would sometimes pick the worst out of a bunch of something or always get bad food at a restaurant, she had a knack for it, sometimes people get in a slump or bad timing mode, so I would try something different to break that up, and hit reset.

Don't feel this was one of your more helpful videos. Sound quality seemed off, but since it was all voice, guess that doesn't matter so much.
