My takeaway, for as long as vvomen insist on being hypergamous and using men for status, nnen have the right to by polygamous. Unless he finds a vvoman truly his equal on both intellectual but also moral standing, i.e. not using her intelligence to simply manipulate the man to her advantage, but using it to build him up as well, the man has the right to keep looking for his equal in other relationships. I might be hurt, but this is liberating.

Jay Haley talks about metacomplimentary control dynamics in relationships in his book Strategies in Psychotherapy. This ties in very directly to what Vilar is saying. People want to control the type of relationship they are in, even if that means they are the "inferiors" in the relationship. Whoever controls what the dynamic of the relationship is has ultimate control. The incapacity to walk away from a relationship means you are the slave of it.
