  • After posting a recent tutorial on using the tony Kuyper TK8 panel for simple sky exposure blends, I was asked why I don't just use the blend tool in the panel itself. The following video is a demonstration of a more complex exposure blend using luminosity masks, and also shows why the automated approach doesn't always work.
    Timeline
    00:00 start and introduction
00:48 Example of Adobe auto HDR vs finished image
01:53 Starting process from Capture One Pro
02:35 Layering and alignment with TK8
03:34 Using the auto blend feature in TK8
04:20 Renaming Layers for better organization
04:44 Blending the highlight and bright lights using luminosity masks
10:21 Adding some shadow detail with luminosity masks
    12:39 The final result

Thanks so much for this video, I do have an image with similar light conditions, now I finally know how to edit it, can't wait to get started!

Hope it works well. Just got the new panel myself so might eventually get round to doing some more blending tutorials with its new tools

After 12 years attempting to make HDR look convincing, I can't wait to try this method! Thanks for the inspiration. Is there a Part 2 of this?

Not yet. Thanks Philip, If I get a chance I'll do a full edit including after the 'master image' section. I'm not really a UA-camr so these videos only get done when I have time between juggling a commercial studio, lecturing at a college and running a photography workshop outfit.

Thanks for this, very useful workflow will be giving this a try on some exposure blends I've been struggling with. Like and sub for you today.

GReat what you did but wish you would have gone slower.

Noted :D I'm thinking of doing a series at some point of step by step, slowly. Will try when work gives me the time.

@@emilvonmaltitz Thanks as I realize you are busy and this is a very small part of your life. Nice images....too.
Currently, use a Fuji XT3 so DR is a challenge at times. Painting through will help me with editing those HDR images that I cannot capture with one image.

painting through luminosity masks will definitely give you a broader range of tones to be able to capture. Good use of the tool IMO

Please turn off tool tips when demonstrating, their continual flashing up is distracting from what you are showing.
Kudos, though, for pronouncing Tony's family name correctly. Too many say kYper and I've heard kUper too on YT.
