What I don't get with Winx Saga is that a dark take on a show about magical girls could have worked if they leaned into it more instead of being embarrassed by being a magical girl show. A good example of Magical Girl shows with dark subjects is Revolutionary Girl Utena and Puella Magi Madoka Magica.
They really should've leaned in on the magical girl aspect and kinda make it somewhat digestible to a western audience who are already interested in fashion thanks to tiktok and insta but instead they made a bland boring show for a different era of teen audiences.

The only thing I don't understand is how Riven and Musa get to the Realm of Darkness on their own when its said in the second season that you must either have powerful magic or be the Wielder of the Dragon Flame to open the portal to the Realm of Darkness. Musa doesn’t have magic or refuses to use magic, nor is she even powerful enough to open a portal as she and Riven just conjure up one off screen, they could have had Stella give them a device or something that allows them to open a portal before going to the Realm of Darkness as this could have been a callback in the second season where she gave them the Convergence Crystal and in the original Winx Club show where Tecna developed a device to allow others to go to other realms
What infuriates me the most is that Aisha and Terra didn't even transform when fighting those Shadow monsters and for all we know Terra could be dead at the end of the comic when she could have just transformed to save her girlfriend, but if she couldn't transform then there could've been a explanation where because Stella, Aisha, and Terra are modern fairies who've unlocked ancient lost magic and its harder for them to transform unlike Bloom its easier for her since she's the Fairy of the Dragon Flame

Vanessa's situation was horrible!!!!! There was no need to bring up the character to humiliate him. And let's not even talk about the TW (sexual abuse) that is in the novel, which I doubt will be dealt with in depth in the second volume. What happened with Sky and Stella shouldn't have happened.
Aaah... I was waiting for your opinion about this... "thing". And I didn't thought about until you say it at 15:38 but yeah, Vanessa's appearance into the comic really makes no sense. The scene where she gets humiliated brings nothing. So why putting her in this story? On the bright side, reading this graphic novel felt really like I was in the Alfea of the Netflix series. The little struggle stories of the characters, the colors and lighting... Lord Darkar gets a fine introduction into the comic (his design is "cliché" but better than Sebastian). But the whole thing just made me realize that I don't care so much about Fate The Winx Saga. I have some ideas of how the story will unfold in the second volume... but do I have any will to read this sequel? No.
To be honest, I actually enjoyed it too (I was also surprised when it suddenly ended). I just love comics and graphic novels as a medium. Without thinking of it as a continuation, I like where they've taken the story within their limitations. At the same time, I think if this had been the plot of an actual season 3 of the show, I think people would not have been as unsatisfied with the plot (except me - I would have whinged about it anyway), because honestly, there are as many continuation issues, retcons and plot holes between seasons 1 and 2, as there are between s2 and Dark Destiny. "Fate The Winx Saga" was a TERRIBLE live action remake! It made me deeply disappointed. THAT WAS NOT WINX CLUB! It doesn't even deserve to be called "Winx". 😭💔💢
It‘s not a terrible show, but compared to Winx, you are right. It should have had a different name with different characters and I would be a huge fan but not with those curtains.

Sorry, I don't want to meet Briar. The Trix are sacred, and the author shouldn't make a reassignment because she doesn't own the rights to the characters. The only powerful triad should be Icy, Darcy and Stormy, not one else. I hope this gets fixed in the second volume. Also, the author admitted that Beatrix's sisters are Isobel and D'arcy, but she just came up with that because she doesn't know how to write about IPs, and she even admitted that she could have done nothing. With Beatrix, she could have done nothing and respected what was established in the second season. If Mad Cave and the author don't understand Winx Club and Fate, they better cancel this. I add that the author is arrogant and does not accept objective criticism and has deleted comments that criticized the novel. Even the publisher did something similar... @talkytilki That's all I know. But Rainbow didn't promote the graphic novel like they do comics or licensed products. Whenever a licensed product or comic is released, Rainbow always links to that publication of the company (this happened in January with the announcement of the graphic novel, and it happens with Colourpop, Elan Beaute, with the comics that Papercut launches). But with the release of the graphic novel they did not link to the publication of Maverick. They uploaded a story a week after the publication of Maverick (which was on the 14th, they did it on the 20th)
@talkytilki I'd like to add that the graphic novel can't be bought in Spain, France, Italy, the Netherlands... and they've cancelled orders from people who bought it in pre-sale a week ago without any explanation. In the UK it's back on pre-sale.
I think what they're doing with Stella is interesting, but everything else felt like it was coming out of nowhere. I understand the creator had to change things around and can't use more orginal winx characters, but they really should have done more set up to help the viewer with the changes. The pacing is also way too fast with musa and riven going in/out of the dark world instantly when it would have been better to see their journey.
I’ve always said it but I think if they introduce Tecna they should use her to introduce outfit changes to the story. Tecno magic WOULD be a more grounded way to explain getting a new outfit quickly without having to change. Also I’d actually really love a nonbinary tecna! Since fate likes to try and be inclusive (especially after the whitewashing incident)
I will give the writer leeway in that Fate is creatively bankrupt and in turn they are inheriting many issues and years of resentment. But it is frustrating that they weren't limited by budget or vfx effects, and yet Fate still lacks the magic, and the world feels small. The toon boom power ranger comics expanded on the power ranger verse and had something new to offer to power ranger fans. And frankly fate the graphic novel offers nothing to either Fate or Winx Club. But i will say, a major positive for me is that the graphic novel feels very...female focused? I hated how in the live action we had to give Sky and the boys time and development in expense for the winx girls so i do appreciate the graphic novel feels more in line with Winx Club in that regard and removed a lot of underlining misogyny in Fate.
Ooh that's actually a really good point. It definitely feels like (especially from interviews) the author actually really liked the main 5 from s1 as female characters and really wanted explore their conflicts from that season in more detail. And that kind of explains everything; from things from season 2 being glazed over, to forgetting that this is meant to be a story about fairies that centres magic. Meanwhile, the Netflix people originally wanted to focus the story on the male characters apparently, but Rainbow had to tell them no.
I read it and I HATED it. As a Fate continuation it is horrible. The writing is bad, it has multiple continuity errors, and basically doesn’t make sense with a lot of stuff that happened in the show. THE GIRLS DONT EVEN TRANSFORM?!?!??
It's very likely that the second volume will be rewritten and the Briar and the nonsense of the sisters thing will be changed. There have been many complaints. I don't think they were aware that this would upset the fans.
I'm sorry for commenting in separate comments! But I think it was better to express my feelings. And I have the same relationship as you with Fate, the potential was good, but it only has people who are unable to understand what Winx Club is and means.
I'm sorry I deleted my comment! I understand that the Trix weren't included due to lack of budget (although I think this is an excuse, because they could have gotten rid of Sam and Dane, and that gap is filled by the remaining Trix... and considering how relevant Sam and Dane end up being...). If they couldn't have all three, it was better for Beatrix to be called Darcy directly, and that she had powers of the mind. These decisions clearly show a lack of understanding of what Winx Club is. I think that if the Trix had been in the second season, there would have been a third season, because the Trix are loved by the public. They propose things in the first season, and then they throw them away (curiously, in the second season the original Fate characters disappear) because they have to save their jobs. They later regretted the cancellation, but it was obviously their fault. At least Netflix learned from ATLA and One Piece. Back to Beatrix, she should have been called Darcy if they wanted Riven and her to have a relationship (I find it a bit funny how in the second season it seems like Riven and Beatrix never had a relationship). Even within the second season there are these problems of setting things up, then ignoring them (you can tell the second season was rewritten after the reception of the first season). It would have been better not to make up a name and propose something, and then get rid of it because they realized that the public knows Winx. If Beatrix is going to be a Trix, call her by her name, D'arcy. And that's it. Besides, Darcy is the public's favorite. But, well, that's saying the same thing, the writers' room is not very intelligent. In the end, Beatrix is a doomed character, and in the second season this is very noticeable. Beatrix would have been a different character from the first.
…You’re saying Aisha wrong and it low key be stressing me out. 😂 And the comics show that really no one knows how to make Fate good. Instead of adding to the characters and story (ie make the characters more dynamic and give them cute outfits) they just don’t? And it’s a new writer too? Tragic. Oh well, thank god Winx is getting rebooted. 😂
The second season was a pseudo rewrite of the first season, but it had to have been stronger if they wanted a third season. I'm like to talk to you! But I don't like the format! 🤣
winx isnt just the fairies, winx isa the trix too, so by basically rewriting it into making the trix a "subset" of the winx it takes me out, but i like it, its could have been a lot worse
Fate is an absolute abomination of an adaptation! Where's all the diversity? Of skin tones as well as personalities. That's one thing early Winx Club was great at! Why didn't they adapt WITCH into a dark fantasy show? Why drag Winx Club under the mud? I miss the space opera feel of Winx Club! The aesthetic of Magix blended sci-fi and Fantasy well! Just because something has a dark tone doesn't mean you should have drab costumes! Look @ Euphoria! Y2K trends are returning, so why not capitalize on this with bright, energetic costumes inspired by the OG Winx Club? Bloom's colors should be cool tones of blue and yellow with soft pinks to contrast with her fiery red hair! Stella should wear bright tones of oranges and gold with fuchsia pinks! Flora should be in soft greens and pinks with hints of rosy reds. Musa should be in red and cyan tones! Aisha should go back to pastel greens and lavenders! Tecna should wear all kinds of holographic prints as the resident sci-fi diva!
I did not know about this but I agree with you something I do like and some things I don't like especially I don't like how they decided to do Bloom and Beatrix as sisters that's just fucking stupid and horrible and also Headmistress Faragonda as her mother that's even worse yes I can see it but still it's not okay and again like you said they already showed what her mother looks like and they already set the two names of Beatrix's sisters and also again like you said it's basically the same plot which is not good because I like to see some differences in seasons even in books yes have some little nods to the original seasons and stuff but still keep it different add fresh and new and also I really love the show Fake The Winx Saga I don't care what anyone says.
The show was pretty much a mess from start to finish. That said they really should have had all six winx be there from day 1 like the reboot will be doing. They did have something interesting with Sam too though...if anything I would have not had Terra, but let Sam serve the Tecna role seeing as he had way more of Tecna's personality and it would have killed two birds with one stone.
I enjoyed Fate (it's actually pronounced Fá-Té, bcs Winx is italian, and that's just the italian word for fairy, btw I'm Italian lol) it was a good series, it just wasn't Winx, but it was great as it's own thing, I personally think they should have phrased it "based (or loosely based) on the Winx Club"
I think it was chosen because it works both ways: 'Fate' as in 'destiny' in English and 'Fate' as in 'fairies' in Italian. It's cute. But the showrunner and the cast have always pronounced it as the English word 'fate'.
@@talkytilki I really wish they kept making more episodes on Netflix, I feel like they let go of the series too quickly, it could've really been it's own thing
I loved this idea of playing with the English word "Fate" (Destiny) and the Italian word "Fate" (fairy) when the title was announced in 2019. 😄 I was saying "Fa-té" instead of "Faite" until the Season 1 releases.
Great observation! While it serves as a double entendre, FATE/Destiny is actually a central theme in Winx Club, which is why it's highlighted in the title of FATE: The Winx Saga. Think about the Book of Fate in the first movie, Bloom meeting Stella by chance, or the destiny shell in Season 5/Sky's amnesia plot where he still falls in love with Bloom. Although it’s not exactly the Winx Club, I’d still consider it Winx because it retains many of the core story elements from the broader Winx framework.
Why even make this plot point? Why even call it winx, it could have been it's own thing and succeeded but instead they slap winx on it like star fox to dinosaur planet.

I think what they're doing with Stella is interesting, but everything else felt like it was coming out of nowhere. I understand the creator had to change things around and can't use more orginal winx characters, but they really should have done more set up to help the viewer with the changes.
The pacing is also way too fast with musa and riven going in/out of the dark world instantly when it would have been better to see their journey.
thank you very much keep up the great work
I’ve always said it but I think if they introduce Tecna they should use her to introduce outfit changes to the story.
The author is not going to expand the world of Fate. She reused an idea from another graphic novel she wrote.
It's very likely that the second volume will be rewritten and the Briar and the nonsense of the sisters thing will be changed. There have been many complaints. I don't think they were aware that this would upset the fans.
Really? I think in an interview it was said that the second volume is already at the art stage, so it may be too be late...
@talkytilki That's what I hope, but I don't really know 😞
I'm sorry for commenting in separate comments! But I think it was better to express my feelings. And I have the same relationship as you with Fate, the potential was good, but it only has people who are unable to understand what Winx Club is and means.
no no don't worry 😉it helps boost my engagement...
No one can convince me that Terra is not just a parallel universe Mirtha
Damn they ruined everything. How the hell is DOWLING her mother and Beatrix was proven to have sisters named Darcy and smth else??
The People Behind fate dose not Care about the source material and it shows
i forgot flora was in the show lol
The second season was a pseudo rewrite of the first season, but it had to have been stronger if they wanted a third season.
I'm like to talk to you! But I don't like the format! 🤣
winx isnt just the fairies, winx isa the trix too, so by basically rewriting it into making the trix a "subset" of the winx it takes me out, but i like it, its could have been a lot worse
The story is still shit. But I do thank you for reading it for me. ❤
More OG Winx Slander? Thanks, I hate it!
Ojala Rainbow escuche a los Fans para ver a Tecna Y Roxy en las Novelas Graficas
Then they’re gonna make another Netflix adaptation of the comic like they did with Chilling Adventures of Sabrina💀
It felt like i was reading fanfiction the dowling and beatrix being blooms family made no sense!
Tch seriously?
They could never give the animated WITCH series a continuity cause of the problems
But they do this one? Typicall
Yeah, I was not a big fan of this show
for the first place terra shouldnt be there, it is Tecna, why add 2 fairy of nature?
Ami The Only 1 Who Wishes That They Made 1 More Season
Who's Kat again?
I want this in Netflix season 3 why the stop this.... How interesting the web series was.....
Me at 3:32…🫨 what the
Why even make this plot point? Why even call it winx, it could have been it's own thing and succeeded but instead they slap winx on it like star fox to dinosaur planet.
5:21 God I hate stella
Does anyone also really hate this reboot besides me
Very very poor work is all i have to say, Even when complaining about it on reddit the author deletes comments giving critique tbh
oh is there a thread? where can I find it?
Waste of money and time they destroy the original plot is awful the worst graphic novel I ever read 🤢🤮
Fate? Still trash 🗑
