Before the internet, this song was impossible to find; it was not in any of Cyndi's albums but can only be found in the movie Vibes soundtrack. One of the most underrated songs of the late 80s.
Just can't get enough of this song. Just fantastic! I always dare my friends that if they can find this song in karaoke, I'd sing it. Hasn't happened yet. It deserves so much more exposure.
Great question. I was told by some of her other fans they were jealous that my local pop rock station played it like it was a big hit, for about a month, and believe me, it sounded so good on FM radio back then! I'm from the midwest, so we had a lot of rock stations. For example, I love Queensryche, so their song Jet City Woman from late 80s or early 90s was played decently on the pop rock station, not top 40 level, but enough to hear it and go cool Queensryche is getting air time! It's so weird that songs we think are big aren't even known in other states unless you were a superfan. I kept waiting for this Cyndi song to hit the top 40 and it never came on, only years later I saw in Billboard magazine that it stalled at #50. So it almost made it. I believe Casey Kasem's ATF countdown helped propel songs to bigger fame, and this would've gotten to about 20 if it got on his show.
She shows herself being shot in the heart in the video and she says the hole goes to China. Forensic investigators put straws into holes to reveal the trajectory of the bullet. She is saying that the hole goes to China. Thereby saying that the bullet came from China. It is a lot more ominous than the fun tune seems. In Latin, Cor means Heart, Ona means Attack. The US made it on behalf of China. The UN and WHO, all owned and run by China. China getting its power from the Dragon. The bible referring to the Dragon as Satan. And so I can understand why China wouldn't like this song being promoted.
I totally forgot about this song, but I just turned 50. I was only 16 when it came out. I was thinking it's time for me to start thinking about cardiovascular health, and this just popped in my head. Ironically, when you're 16, you NEVER think about how you're going to be 50 some day. I'm so glad I'm old enough to remember when Lady Lauper was new. Before there was Madonna, there was Cyndi Lauper.
I remember when this music video debuted on MTV. I was taken aback and stunned at how magnificent both the video AND the song were. Such a shame the song never cracked the top 40 on the Billboard Hot 100. It is one of her best!
@@NeoGee Good to know. I have never recorded anyone else's music but my own. It is just too complicated when it comes to the rights. Thanks for the info. Take care!
I heard this on the radio ONCE in my part of America. ONCE! Shame on the radio stations for not playing it more. It's a gem! Cyndi is killing those high notes! Shew!
I remember seeing the video on MTV several times when it first came out, but I don't remember hearing it on the radio. I was surprised that it wasn't more successful at the time. It was released as a single(which I had), but it was never officially released on any of her albums, and there was never an official release for a VIBES soundtrack album. For a long time, the only way to hear the song was to rent a copy of VIBES and listen to the closing credits...

@Martin Coté personally I liked the movie. Don't know why it flopped at the box office. And yes this song should have been a Top Ten hit for Ms. Lauper
My guess is backlash to go along with the failure of "Vibes" @ the box office. Would've probably performed better if not linked with the movie. I LUV both😘😍❤️
This magical and beautiful woman proves with each song she sings . Just how many lives she has touched with her talented soul. I loved you in my teenage years in the 80's and i love you even more now in my 50's. Your music helped me grow and find my true colors just like a rainbow........... much love from Queensland, Australia :-)
One of those things that stays in u from childhood. No matter how long time goes by it still brings me back to being a kid and watching vibes. You are an icon. :D
Today is the first time I'm hearing this song, I know all your classics... The past few weeks I have been watching all your live performances and have been listening to your songs I've never heard before and I gotta say you are VERY VERY TALENTED!!! I AM obsessed 😍 with you, your voice is AMAZING! Your live performances that you have done recently you still have Soo much energy and sing them so incredibly. You are one of the most talented artists of all time! You still look amazing and your voice is 🔥 😍👌
Yes, I was in the time that she appears. Totaly different to all the singers until this moment, like she sang, like she dressed, the hair, all. And very, very talented. Perfect rythmus, emotion, pitch, etc. She ran on the stage and she sounds perfekt. She never needed something like the autotune. Look here the solo in the minuit 3:32 , how she come in the first part of the song with comedy, after the dramatic solo, and after the comedy in the last part again.
Thank you so much!!! The chorus of this song just popped into my head 10 minutes ago while I was brushing my teeth! Loved her back then (when my biggest dream in life was to go to school with the "big kids")... Love her even more, now for her music, her trailblazing fashion sense, the perfect balance of upbeat & tearful in her songs, her unaologetic sense of individuality... but more than anything, the nostalgia that comes over me every time I hear her voice...
The style, choreography, vocals, and overall-emotion at 3:17 is out of this world! It's always been my favourite part of this song since Jr. High, and still is.
It's obscure in the US at least because you can't buy it anywhere. No streaming, the soundtrack has been unavailable for years, and it's not on any of her Greatest Hits albums.
I would sit through Vibes just to blast this at the end the movie was good as well but this song at the end was the icing on the cake for me , the song still stirs something deep inside me and i cant get rid of the grin it puts on my face !

Cyndi you have a lovely summer & may you have more good days then bad. An keep up in what you doing your a real fine & talent artist in a lot of people hearts. An keep doing what you love for there people in the world the only thing free they get sometimes is music over a radio. An that gives them peace & beauty into there life & hearts to keep going I know I been to many countries.
What a cool song and video. I couldn't stop watching it when it came out!! It is so Cyndi. I wish her music could had continued going this direction for a longer time. A night to remember album change her game. She knows. She once said A night to remember album was A might to forget...
I love this song. It wasn't a hit in the USA, mostly because "Vibes" was a big bomb of a film. But I'm glad to see it's on her greatest hits CD. This is an awesome song to listen to while road tripping across the USA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It hit the top 40, but was a relative bomb compared to her other songs Sony promoted more to radio. It's also not on any of her greatest hits albums in the US, so it's not available on streaming platforms either. It's on the Japanese version of her 12 Deadly Cyns compilation as well as some other international compilations.
Woohh Hooohh!! I'm going to fill up this hole in my heart with pure Cyndi Lauper!! It's a shame this catchy and hip tune wasn't included in that DVD that's supposed to all beloved Cyndi's video music collection! Oh! and "The Gonnies 'R' Good Enough" Video isn't in there either! Cesar
I grew up in this era each morning before school I’d watch MTV the days it was all videos loved this song and she was on cassette so had to listen to the next song to hear all it grew on me god bless Cindy for the great music she rocks!❤
Yea should of got at least in top 20 on the Billboard Hot 100, however least it was a hit single in Australia, New Zealand, Switzerland, Austria, Finland, + Chile!
probably because the movie wasnt a hit and this song is associated with it. personally, i loved the movie and this is one of my all time favorites by her!
Cyndi Lauper is an eternal idol. We love Cyndi Lauper . No singer has healed my heart as much as Cyndi Lauper . I still vividly remember the overly beautiful Cyndi Lauper I saw at the Budokan in September 1986.
I ALWAYS loved Cyndi and begged my parents to let me gave orange hair and shaved, checkered sides when I was like, 5 years old! HahahahaahaVibes was a movie I watched constantly as a kid, still do! Cyndi is an angel 💗 Beautiful singer, beautiful human being!
1:05 best little part, people like to say "there's only one so n so" but there is definitely only one cyndi lauper, that voice and the way she puts everything out there is such a beautiful thing
I fell in love with this when I watched the Vibes movie over and over. Hit #8 in Oz. I then bought my 1st Cyndi album A Night to Remember, only to find out this gem wasn't on it. grr. Thankfully now due to digital I've added it as track 8 to my playlist.
I can't believe this track never cracked the top 1/2 of the BillBoard Hot100?!?!?!? It was certainly top 10 on MTV's weekly 'Top20 Vids' & in heavy rotation there & on Top40 radio. 1 of my Top5 Cyns 4 sure & deserves 2B officially added 2 the tracklisting of "A Night to Remember"LP! "Vibes" fan 4ever!
I watched Vibes a few days ago, and this came on in the credits. I instantly remembered it, even though I haven't heard it in 20+ years. Been in my head since then. Great song!

My destination,
The sea of trouble, the land of pain
You're sending me where it always rains
Oh reconsider, I'm begging you, some hesitation
I'm holding on to my sanity
I feel the beginning of emergency
My hands are slipping, oh please don't let me fall into
This hole in my heart that goes all the way to china
You gotta fill it up with love before I fall inside of,
This empty hole in my heart that goes all the way to China
And though you can't see the bottom, believe me it's a long way down
I'm on a planet without a plan
It's oh so lonely
I need to see you to get out of here
There's something deadly in this atmosphere
I'm in a desert, without a drink of your sweet water
You're my oasis in the burning sand
I'm out of danger when you touch my hand
Throw me a lifeline, I'm standing on the edge of
This hole in my heart that goes all the way to china
You gotta fill it up with love before I fall inside of,
This empty hole in my heart that goes all the way to China
And though you can't see the bottom, believe me it's a long way down
The gun was loaded, I didn't know
I pulled the trigger,
I heard a noise then the room went dark
I felt the bullet going in my heart
I feel so dizzy, oh please don't let me fall, don't leave me in
This hole in my heart that goes all the way to china
You gotta fill it up with love before I fall inside of,
This empty hole in my heart that goes all the way to China

Please understand that that’s a ridiculous view and no one agrees.
Fck you, Gmail.
Cyndi is so gorgeous!! Love her so much.
My favorite song of hers...!!! Should have been a Major hit...!?!
My favorite of her. Queen Cindy Lauper
One of the best songs of Cyndi!
Beautiful masterpiece 🌹
Woohh Hooohh!! I'm going to fill up this hole in my heart with pure Cyndi Lauper!!
It's a shame this catchy and hip tune wasn't included in that DVD that's supposed to all beloved Cyndi's video music collection!
Oh! and "The Gonnies 'R' Good Enough" Video isn't in there either!
Cesar
Find it on Cyndi's 12 Deadly Sins import from Japan. Also, on Amazon of the 3 disc release, The Great Cyndi Lauper,
Also on Hits of 1988!
This movie is such a solid, like, 6/10. But in that really comforting and nice way. Really enjoyed it.
I grew up in this era each morning before school I’d watch MTV the days it was all videos loved this song and she was on cassette so had to listen to the next song to hear all it grew on me god bless Cindy for the great music she rocks!❤
Loved this song. Super underrated. Never understood why it wasn't a bigger hit. Think it topped out at 37 or something on the Billboard 100.
Yea should of got at least in top 20 on the Billboard Hot 100, however least it was a hit single in Australia, New Zealand, Switzerland, Austria, Finland, + Chile!
Heavenly Psalm !
probably because the movie wasnt a hit and this song is associated with it. personally, i loved the movie and this is one of my all time favorites by her!

I still vividly remember the overly beautiful Cyndi Lauper I saw at the Budokan in September 1986.

Poucas, são as cantoras que chegam perto da Cyndi, seu estilo é inconfundível e influência até os dias de hoje. Cyndi te amo Rainha❤😍🤩🤗😅😊😋

一番好き!
シンディ大好き!
I loved Vibes. She was an underrated actress.
The soundtrack of my childhood!
Hasta ahora sigue cantando con la misma voz y la misma energía ! 🙌❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤🍃
This should be on her greatest hits album

I almost saw her in concert, but I couldn't for school. This is one of my favorite songs! She is my idol!

I watched Vibes a few days ago, and this came on in the credits. I instantly remembered it, even though I haven't heard it in 20+ years. Been in my head since then. Great song!
I want this song played at my wedding and my funeral.

Esa Cyndi era una lokilla en los 80's con esos pelos de colores y esa voz ensordecedora jiji!! I love you.
tell me am wrong, but.. i think she had that fire and energy girls in the industry today imitates.
+Leslie Douglas Every time I see Katy Perry I think she took a lot of her persona from Cyndi.
por supuesto todas copian a Cyndi , siempre lo han hecho desde Madonna pasando por lady gaga y terminado con katy perry y kesha.
@@juanalonso7092 muy cierto
Cyndi was definitely a trendsetter. She herself owes a lot to Prince and Bowie, but she easily gave it her own original bent.
Well, of course. She's the original girl just having fun!
this was the only resson i would watch vibes it was cool don't get me wrong but knowing that at the end i could turn up the TV and hear A great song ! it drove my mom batty !
