- The Singapore Civil Defence Force Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team is an elite search and rescue force that requires its members to be physically and mentally resilient while facing the most challenging of missions.
Potential candidates for the team are subject to a rigorous selection process spanning the course of more than a day to ensure the best candidates are chosen before embarking on a 10-week course to earn their DART tabs.
We followed 16 candidates over the course of 26 hours to document the trials they had to face.

Been a instructor in CDA during my NS days, the first batch of NS instructors there actually. Memorable experience and I've really got to give it to those guys who go for the DART selection tests. I'm sorry to say but the fact is in the year 2001, we've got a captain from the red berets and he didn't even make it through the BA Maze much less the heat/humidity room. This is a totally different form of tests. It's more of endurance and how much you'd want to earn that DART certification. The Singapore Civil Defence Force has also very much earned the respect of international rescue teams alike and that is the reason for international S&R teams of Taiwan, Philippines, Thailand etc. pay our government to put their guys to train with us here in the CDA (I've trained these guys in my NS days from 1999-2001, but I know there's more). End of this I just want to mention, to all the haters or skeptics out there, every vocation has their own specialty and the SCDFs mission is to save lives. Therefore, these men here train their guts out so as to save many others.
Even the fittest,the toughest, may fall in the bunker gear. Never underestimate its potential to bring you to your knees.

Well done to those who participated with success or otherwise. Congratulations to Cpt Faizal who was my BOC mate 17 yrs ago. I also noticed Cpt Mahdi as a participant in this video, who will be joining me soon. As I had also went thru DART selection 15 yrs ago, I agree the selection exercise had always been challenging and I noticed over the years, the set has been improvised further. I'm not sure if that is necessary, but so far DART managed to use this method to pick the extreme best of the best. I wish I am younger and stronger.
You guys have made Singapore proud time after time. Though I'm not from the SCDF but you have my respect. Thanks for making us proud. :)
I went through just a very simple 3 day skeletal basic firefighting course as part of the navy's ship firefighting requirement (nsf there now). I now have a whole lot more respect for firefighters.
DONT say negative of all our forces! everyone in the forces is doing their part. Be it SAF SPF SCDF. they need each other to work together stay strong and united. every elite forces from SAF SPF SCDF be it STAR SPEAR DART SOTF COMMANDO RANGER they are all specially trained and have gone through hell through their respective courses. We can say that they are not doing their job blablabla but some of us cant even make it through half of their courses. RESPECT!! my friends..

I serve my NS as a firefighter during my young prime age. When i was young and trendy. Time flies. SCDF will always have a special place in my heart🥺❤
during my fire fighting training at cda, it started together wif the DART course. even during the DART training course, some of them fainted. wad u see is just the beginning. a few more weeks of dis. imagine dat...

Thumbs up to the participants of the course!! Very good dermination & never say die attitude. Be it Military, police or Civil defence, We are all doing our part to protect our homeland. Every line of service is important & one cant function without the other so please do not compare salary, Rank, Difficulty or vocation.

Please, don't compare Army & SCDF. Every uniform group have their own specialized obstacles to go through. A Ranger may be "super fit" but can they tahan being in cramped places for hours & with that BA? Good that these SCDF guys can tahan something from army which is the 21km march. Huge respect. And yeah, I'm from the army once. So please give credit to these guys. They're the commandos of the fire brigade..

Much respect to our SCDF, its damn tough. But we cannot discredit the armed forces for "not being in real action" either. We are all working hard, and the peace we all enjoy are the fruits of all our efforts. Cheers bro!

SAF SPF AND SCDF are trained in different difficult situations and they deal with different situations. Please dont compare.
They are comparing the fitness and endurance part. For sure SCDF got the upper hand because they did almost everything in that deadly bunker instead of just normal long 4

If your son is in the SAF and the gov wants to send our SAF to war in other country will you agree?
If no. Then don't say SAF no real stuffs. Cos u disallowed SAF to have real stuffs.
SAF soldiers have a history of being killed during peace time operations in training. Never underestimate. The risks are real.
Everyone does their part; the SCDF, the SAF, the SPF. All of them serve and do their respective duties (some la, not all lol) to this country and so all deserve the same respect. If you think otherwise you are a simple-minded fool who's actually more concerned about gaining personal recognition and affirmation than actually doing your part. Don't act one nobel.

I was an infantry trooper then became an airport firefighter. Both training is tough. Don’t compare. Tbh, firefighters also got nothing much to do if there are no calls.
Notice how it’s the small / skinny guys who make it. Never judge based on appearance. Some of the toughest and strongest guys I’ve met in the army looked the most unassuming too (small, short, etc). Conversely the “bodybuilders” don’t necessarily make it through.
singapore SOF selection is abit the same as this u need to run etc and stuff but only some things they take out and put here and there

These guys save more lives than the army. These guys will always be considered heroes when they drive past in fire engines. You live the life of a hero in SCDF. But you live the life of a wayang king in the Army.. That's the difference.
OK LETS GO not all are waiyang king . I’m from the combat engineer they make us construct the grandstands for 2000 padang national parade. In time of peace They just turned us into construction workers.

Who ever said they're a military combat force dude?they're not made for Ranger school or even special forces operations,they are just highly trained and highly skilled rescue members that will probably risk their life for someone else and that is probably the most brave thing anyone can ever do.Tell that to a Ranger or an SOF operator and he'll say the same thing

Regardless of many stories about him , for me He is a man with a gd heart .
I ord at 1996 , looking back it's been 24 years .. Wonder how is he doing now , by now he's into his 70s . may be he's not living in SG anymore probably retired in Malaysia . but idk , i just hoping someone whom knows him and still get in touch with him can come out to tell me don't worry bro He's still out there kicking someone ass . that's what i hope to hear .

It's been so long , both are in their 70s .
And there's others like chua lai sian , staff sergeant jerry , sergent johari , corporal Zul and many others which i had a hard time gettting back their names , but every faces are still fresh as yesterday inside my head .
But like i said , it's been 24 years and i hope they're still the person i know 24 years ago

Do not forget that we kill to protect more people than you can save in a disaster that last a few hours. it is not comparable like that. military defend ideas, religions, beliefs, basic rights, our resources, your love ones, national interest in an event in a war or threat of war.
in World war 2, 80 million people died and many millions suffered years later for the cause for the peace we have today. If not for the war, aggressors would be the winner of modern society, religions would be destroyed, racism exists, basic human rights removed from people, Singapore? still under Japanese rule.Malays, Chinese and local population would be killed and be treated as 2nd class citizens in our own country.
We dont kill for no reason. We kill so that your child, grandchild, great grandchild, would have what we have today or prosper to higher heights. You dont own what you cant protect. the military just essentially saved the last 52 years of Singapore history. No war does not mean that it is not necessary. within this 52 years, we do have threats that SCDF cant save and protect because you are not trained, take the terrorist attack at Singapore airport whereby a plane was hijacked for example.
I am not belittling this selection test. every force have their elite, even the police have theirs. Army have got our special forces. Do look that up before making such comments.

Junhong Chill out guys. Every force has thier challenges and their job scope and things to do. Even if I really love SCDF And i have friends in fire stations that are both regulas and NSF, I never ever disrespected the SAF, Police or any other Home Team Agencies. Remeber No ones bigger than anyone else and RESPECT everyone. PEACE
Junhong..we leant all lh..like....Guardsmen..we do rappelling n sliding pole..we learnt Hazmat..n knw all the chemical agents n the detectors n even donning the high performance suit aka teletubbies suits..CA suits...except we dnt carry SAR 21 etc..all similar

Respect! But you can't compare the army, police or scdf between themselves. Its not about who saves more lifes or who does real things..each defensive bodies do totally different things. We compliment one another.. look on the bright side, arent we lucky to have these people around us.

I fully respect these people for taking a huge step out of their comfort zone, but I have seen logistic clerks half the size of SSG Ramzan at 12:00 come in for JSF selection, treated like absolute scum by Cadre instructors, and blacked-out with enhanced combat load 6m underwater during water evolutions, and not a single candidate rang the bell. It's nothing about military, or how inhumanly fit you are, it's all about mental stubbornness.
First of all, don't call me "bro". Secondly, it's very very easy to say something but when it comes down to actually doing it,that's another story! I tell u what, why don't u get someone to film u doing the entire series of obstacles in the DART selection and we'll see how far u get?Then we can talk. :)
Btw, Kannan wasn't the first to quit.Why are u specifically arrowing him? If u're such a fan of his, maybe u can get him to help train u up so u can prove that you're not just an empty vessel.

Bro i served as a firefighter during NS I can tell you the training was extremely grueling…there are commandos who tried climbing the hose towers w full don and failed…different unit have different specialists…late reply i know just to infrom you.

You watch too many movies or UA-cam videos about them. If you're gonna make it in Civil Defense, DART is way up there. That's it. No need compare with the world's best, like US Rangers or Navy SEALS. Unless you're one of those, you at no position to talk shit.

I have zero respect for these DART guys from SCDF or the RANGER guys from SAF. Why? They are just doing their course for ego, pride and their careers. Are they doing it for u and me? Hell no!
