I never comment on youtube, ever. But after about 2 weeks of trying to figure out how to cut certain noises and numerous other videos later, still not able to get certain sounds out... i stumble upon this early this morning and literally fixed all my sound issues. THANK YOU.
Oh my freakin' God! THANK YOU! Finally, a qualified audio editor who understands that a tutorial is about teaching, not just trying to sell me their custom preset pack. I understand that we all need to earn a living. I just hate getting 10 minutes into some random tutorial only to learn that I have to buy some plugins to move forward. You made this easy to follow and kept my stress level down. Subbed with many thanks:)
Thank you so much for this. I have been using Audition for many years, and didn't even know about these features. Tonight I was trying to remove two audible thumps from the intro to a song which was quite low in level, and every time I tried using the method I know, I just got an audible click instead. Using your method with spectral analysis and the auto heal function worked perfectly! A HUGE thumbs up to you.
For some reason we just saw this now, but anyway, thanks for the comment guys! It does take quite a while to fix audio haha sometime's it's a bit boring :)
Wow! This was just what I've been searching for! I've listened to hours and hours of videos with NONE of them addressing how to specifically remove the mouth noises. Well, many did, but only you explained exactly how to select the marquee tool; something most bypass because they are not truly understanding what a 'beginner' is! And you're excellent at showing where in the menu everything is. The only thing that did not work for me was the plus sign to zoom in. Not sure why, but my laptop did not do that. Also, I don't understand how to know (lasso example) the shapes of particular noises. How did you know it was that shape at the top that made the noise, versus any other part of that vertical section? Thanks so much for being so clear!!
Glad it was helpful to you! I’m not sure why the plus sign isn’t working, might be the version. I think the answer to your other question comes down to experience; after a while you start to know which areas are what, like lower deeper sounds will be at the bottom, bright high pitch sounds will be at the top, clicks or pops will have very unnatural looks to them, etc
Is there a way to copy and paste the same selection "shape" across the timeline? For example, if you have a regularly recurring sound you that you want to attack through the spectral frequency view?
Thankyouthankyouthankyou! I do a bit of this and that for my part-time employers, and most of it uses Adobe products, from copy editing, layout for print, web development, a wee bit of video editing, and now in my lap is the whole series of Lenten podcasts to edit, mix and post. In a previous job some years ago, I'd do audio editing in Soundforge--very basic, but it met our needs for audio narration for instructional projects. In my current task, I was being frustrated with the odd hum, computer tones, and paper rustling that arrived in my audio files. And since I'm not able to be there to monitor the recording sessions, I have to work with what I've been given, and just learn enough about Audition to be able to knock these out by editing the waveforms before layering in music and effects. I honestly had no clue that the spectral frequency view was even there, much less that it is as useful as you've shown it to be. I'm enjoying exploring those possibilities. Again, thanks much!
i was editing a podcast and the host's mic had this weird little thump in the middle of her speech. i didn't think this would work but autoheal lowered the thump noise noticeably. not perfect, but definitely an improvement!
Audition is pretty powerful. Here’s a tutorial using Audition for cleaning up background noise that we did a few months back that might be helpful to you :) ua-cam.com/video/0PD4v0INsu4/v-deo.html Echo is VERY difficult to reduce though, in fact, up until recently it was considered not doable, but Adobe has made some innovations there too.
This is...so crazy.... I can remove unwanted audio no problem but my software doesn't have the auto heal function that makes the removal natural. I am familiar with all the tools you are using in this video but only in the context of Photoshop. It's quite awesome how Adobe uses the same tools on audio editing.
You’re exactly correct! It’s amazing how they’re using traditional techniques with photo editing and implementing that workflow and mentality toward audio content! It’s innovative!
You explain this so much better than dudes. So let’s say I auto healed one annoying click (vertical line), and have 99 more to go. Is there an AI way where it can auto heal the other 99 vertical lines?
That was amazing & excellent piece of sharing, was stuck on same part & this helped me resolve the issue. Very precise & concise too. Thanks a lot. Liked & Subscribed.
Wow - this is super helpful!! Just what I was looking for! The instruction is excellent and I love that it's so straightforward and gets right to the point. The volume is extremely loud on this video though - maybe consider reducing on future videos? Thank you for this hack!
Hi, liked your video. How do you take out the ASL interpreter's voice and only have the breath of the deaf person? The ASL Interpreter is doing the signs of the script and the deaf person is copying her. I read it to the ASL interpreter and so she didn't have to look at the script, but now she has it memorized mostly and she's kind of whispering the phrase while she signs to the deaf guy.
@@AlliandWill That was an unexpected fast response For reference what I wanted was to remove for example: a phone notification sound that occurs multiple times (so you know exactly what the sound file is and you want to search for it and remove it)
Great video! But I don't know identify which instrument, or voice is the exact point for repair, for me is still very confused to find the exact point in the spectrogram.
Hi, great video. got a question though...Do you know of a way to mute every spike in an audio clip (60 mins long) that is, let's say 1/4 of a second long or whatever length you want. What's happening is, someone who is not talking (on their own audio clip) will make random sounds with their mouth or hit the mic or stuff like that. I just want it to be automated is all.
What if there is an unwanted sound over the speech audio. Example someone coughing in the audience while the speech takes place? In your examples its all isolated sounds you are removing. They are easy to deal with. Any help much appreciated. Thanks.
i'm getting a consistent but noticeable metal on metal 'scraping' sound in my motorcycle riding videos. it's not loud but is nearly always present (really annoying). i believe it's just the brake pads lightly touching the brake disks, which is not uncommon on some vehicles. do you think this scraping sound would be a good candidate for removing via adobe audition? i don't have creative cloud yet but am thinking about signing up. one thing i can do to isolate the sound to create some kind of sound profile is to ride the motorcycle down a hill then turn off the motor and coast.
I have a video in which I'm demonstrating something but my feet shuffling along a wood floor create unwanted noise. Thank you for showing how to apply heal the offending section, but is there a way (if this sound is repeated many times) to heal all instances without having to do them individually? Thank You.
Is there a way to do this throughout a lengthy recording where it happens multiple times? For example...I have a recording where there is repetitive throat clearing and the dialogue is 4 hours long. Is there a way to tag a sample of sound...have a programme analyse the sound and look for similar sounds throughout the track and either delete them or mark the throat clearing sound for you, or any unwanted repetitive sound for that mater?
I have a song that I want to separate the dialogues and the background noise mixed with the singer's singing, will this trick work, because I tried to separate them, but the music was separated from the singing and the dialogues. please help me
That's a big ask! Very difficult to do because there are so many overlapping frequencies of audio in the source music you're working with! I have heard of some newer software that can possibly do what you need; I'd suggest doing a Google search to see if they're any good.

What's the best way of removing bird noises made during talking on a video? Thanks
I think what was shown in the video should do a decent job, but it also depends on the noises made, how loud they are, and if the tone is consistent.
Good good! Thanks for the tips! Just hope some day an algorithm and IA is capable to do all that with one click! That would be nice, right?
