I saw this in the theater in 86 with 2 friends from high school when we were 15. We thought we were going to see Aliens but it ended up being a double feature, The Fly and Aliens. We were blown away by the end of the night and that was the only double feature I've ever seen.

Thank you for being the only reactor I’ve seen to acknowledge the similarity of Brundle’s tragic journey to that of someone with a terminal illness…. or even addiction. In the ‘58 original, the transformation is instant. In this masterpiece, we got to go through the journey with Seth and Ronnie. The trashiness of his apartment that took place in the intervals between seeing Ronnie was an ingenious way without wasting runtime of showing Seth’s anger and desperation.
And his final solution to the problem, as insane as it was, was a solution made of pure fear and desperation.
The “Insect Politics “ speech was brilliantly written and performed. I agree with you that THE FLY is Goldblum’s greatest performance in a movie. It allowed us to see almost every range of emotion.
Jeff’s costar, Jon Getz (Stathis) in an interview would state that he was in awe of Goldblum’s preparation and dedication to detail. Thank you for your reaction. My favorite of anyone reacting to this film.

A few scenes got cut out including a scene when Brundle in his mid transformation sends an alley cat and baboon through a telepod. Resulting a mutated creature then Brundle beats it up with the led pipe

Such a classic, and still everything you'd never expect this kind of movie to be. Horrific but also tragic and romantic, sci-fi but gothic, characters who change and continually surprise, and with one of the scariest dream sequences ever? They don't make 'em like this anymore ❤

I was a 9 when I saw the original (Vincent Price, 1958). It’s funny, but to me the original is a different kind of creepy. For a kid, chills up the spine creepy. We’d never seen anything like it before. It was scary enough, but that ending haunted my dreams for years… if you know, you know.

I was even younger when I first saw that version. Yes, it WAS creepy.... but I'd already seen enough in my (at the time) young life, that it didn't freak me out. The only movie to actually accomplish that, was "The Omega Man", when I saw it at the lovely age of 6. After that one, NO movie bothered me again. And I saw all of the horror movies made at the time (before I was a teenager). The Exorcist, The Omen, all of those movies made prior to 1980, I saw as a pre-teen. Only "The Omega Man" freaked me out at the time. Which is funny to look back on, as I love that movie, and I see (as an older me) that it shouldn't have scared me as much as it actually did. But I was 6 years old... so cut me some slack.
Oh, I WILL say that The Fly 2 is one I won't watch again.... not because it was a bad movie (it wasn't).... but because of ..... well...... I don't want to spoil it.... but "animal lovers" understand. That's all I'll say.

Same here. Watched "The Fly 2" years ago & never wanted to see it again. I liked Eric Stoltz but not enough to watch it again.
I am, indeed, an animal lover so I know exactly what you mean. I cry easily over "animals in peril" moments so that one made me sob & ugly cry.
      Spoiler for 1958 version...
I do love the original "The Fly" but the disapperaing kitty really upset me as a child & still bothers me if I catch the film on late night tv every few years.
And it had a sequel that had a scene involving a Guinea Pig that also bothered me.
Makes you want to yell "Hey, Scientists! Leave those animals alone!"😭

It's a love story/tragedy/cautionary tale all wrapped up in one.
I thought Goldblum should have at least gotten a nomination for an Oscar.
    "Too bad"
This and An American Werewolf in London are my favorite all time horror movies.
Both Tragic love stories, both horror movies.
The practical effects are unmatched by even CGI.
And a big huge shout out to David Cronenberg
    The baron of blood.

One of the greatest remakes of all time (Sci-Fi or otherwise).
The 4th of 5 features films in a franchise that began with one of the great B-movie classics.
All this from a short story that was published back in 1957.
Both an intriguing and scary film.
I was age 6 at the time.
Could handle the storytelling with it's suspense, drama and even the gore.
This was the 2nd of 3 films to co-star Goldblum & Davis and it was the more serious one, while the other 2 were comedic.
Howard Shore's original score is fantastic and
the main theme is as epic as it is ominous.
Goldblum in his second leading role has much deserved praise.
While every actor has their own style, Goldblum himself is a style of acting, to me that's cool.
One of the top films of it's year.
5 awards including make-up effects by Chris Walas (Gremlins).
"Be Afraid, Be Very Afraid" is one of the most beloved taglines and one-liners of film.
In the end, it's about genius being a curse as much as it is a gift.
We as human beings can stray from who we are and become something else.
Most would think that's better and could make monsters (figuratively) out of ourselves before it's too late to grasp our humanity.
