    Me personally, I've always blamed the mixtape culture that's prevalent in today's basketball landscape and the exposure that comes with it. You have these 15-18 year old prospects getting superstar treatment from their highlight reels and some making money off of it, and it's doing more damage to their future than it is supplementing it. It gives these kids a false sense of reality, thinking that they're better than they actually are, only to come into the league and realize that they aren't that good. Alot of these kids are talented, but can't play basketball if that makes sense. Thon Maker was an earlier example of that.

    Every video of him before he was drafted was of him going up against prep school kids who were 12-18 inches shorter than him, except for videos from the draft combine where he was getting worked over by Skal Labissiere. He was a projected late 1st/early 2nd round pick and the Bucks thought they were being clever.

    75% of America never logs onto social media. Meaning for every player with a fire mixtape. There is a player with equal or more talent you haven’t seen. So when those players meet eventually in the NBA some of these players are caught off guard.

    Thon received inconsistent minutes upon his departure from the Milwaukee Bucks. Thon's style of play & experience since his time away from the league will have prepared him to sign with a contender looking for a versatile 3 & D forward that can start at SF/PF or help run the second unit. Thon Maker also has Family member's in Makur Maker & Matur Maker who are also league ready. Keep a close eye on NBA's teams expressing interest in the Maker Family in the coming months.

    I just think the bucks are to blame here. Firstly, they drafted a 7'0 player who has no physicals. Then move him to an even more physical necessary role in C. I mean, they didn't need another PF. they needed some shooting. They saw Maker as a size option and a shooting option, but they forgot that there is a loaded positional role on their team at the time.

    • @alexnguyen1284
      @alexnguyen1284 Рік тому

      the bucks are not to blame. Thon literally was not good at any position both offensively and defensively in the nba. The nba is another monster. Thon was dominating high school kids as a 28 year old adult. When up against other adults that are more skilled he showed his real age, 40.

    hype culture is to blame,scouts too. they focus on the trends not on the actual value. they focus so much on finding me the next this or that, they forgot what to focus on. Fundamentals and mentality, also basic analysis. Dirk for example bodied scottie pippen when he wasnt even in the nba, but he didnt have that much hype coming into the league but you know he was a good player just by him playing in his first ten games.

    Could it be as simple as in Australia we call highschool till gr 10 and 11-12 are mostly a different school known as college so we " graduate" at 16 and college at 18?

    • @BiggieTrismegistus
      @BiggieTrismegistus 4 місяці тому +1

      It could be. However it's also not unknown for athletes from some places to lie about their age. There' a reason Nigeria has five u17 World Cups but have never even made the semifinals in the actual World Cup.
      EDIT: In the videos it's said that Thon graduated from a "college" in Australia at 18. So basically he finished through grade 12 in Australia and then came to the US to go grade 8-12 again.
