Demarcus Cousins and John Wall are two of the players that really got me into basketball. I lived just outside Lexington my whole life and my mom was a diehard UK fan but I only ever followed or played baseball. I knew Wall and Cousins off pure name recognition in our hometown though and when they went to the NBA I’d see them from time to time on the TV just DESTROYING competition and it made me so proud. Wish the league would’ve given Boogie and Wall both more of a chance these last 3 or so seasons. They still have a lot to offer a team.

7:26 the irony of these players is most scouts/GMs didn’t really expect them to be what they became. Which says a lot about how often they can hit or miss with theses picks. 😅

It's one of those fun examples of being right and wrong at the same time.
Cousins became better than what you would have thought and the Kings didn't do him any favours, but the temperament suggests that he would have been better suited as a Draymond-esque enforcer than a true first option on a winning team.

Sadly I watched about every game cousins played in sac. He was in sac for a tough era for sure but he didn’t do himself any favors. He wasted about 2 fouls a game for the first 5 years of his career fouling people after he missed a shot. If he didn’t foul that player, he would yell at the refs and miss out on playing defense on the other side of the floor. And for whatever reason when the basket was made, he always grabbed the ball out of the net and handed it to the other team, rather than just letting it go and playing D. I’d say he cost the kings about 10 points a game by just being an absolute fool on the above issues plus getting T’d up. The stats were there, and he worked hard to get rebounds. He was and still is a very polished offensive player, but as the game moved away from the basket , he was basically the dinosaur right next to the meteor when it hit the Earth. All in all this guy cost himself about $200 million in salary because he was a jerk. Kings bailed on him and he never got the max deal. Then injuries hit and as of 2023 he’s nothing more than a boarder line NBA player.

His biggest issue was his attitude problem. That’s the reason he fell to us at 5 in the draft. They thought he would mature but he never did. I remember getting court side tickets 3 rows back from the court one game. He had an attitude with EVERYONE the entire game! Including his teammates. I remember his teammates constantly tried cheering him up the entire game but it wasn’t working. They were patting him on the back and he was shoving their arms out of his way.

I followed Cousins career closely as a Kings fan and liked his game a lot but he contributed a lot as to why may of Kings picks didnt pan out. Also Marquis Chriss was not a Kings pick. Also acting like Kings were drafting bad the whole time just because they didn't know how to draft using hindsight, many of the Kings pick in this period is justified at the time. Also saying Giannis should had been drafted by the Kings is straight nonsense. Even the bucks knew he was a project and didnt know he would pan out. Also saying Kings made a terrible trade by trading cousins buddy is nonsnse. Kings has a hard time getting a good deal because of his attitude and Kings 100% did the right thing, I was mad at the time, but quickly understood that paying cousins the super max for 5 years was a terrible idea when Cousins never shown signs of maturity.

Add to that the fact that his old teammate Anthony Davis is still there, and more injury prone than ever, and this should be a no-brainer. In fact, the Lakers did work out Boogie about a month or two ago, so I feel like something weird is going on behind the scenes. 🏀

There are also people lying about him running off guys like Seth, which could not be further from the truth. George Karl was talking trash about that team and telling guys like Seth that they wouldn't be in the league in a few years, and Cousins would publicly go against that. GK also tried to get people in the Kings media fired for criticizing him because he was so terrible at his job. People still trying to blame him for the Kings constant and repeated failures are beyond clueless.

As a kings fan I was pissed when they fired Malone. It was one of the only coaches boogie got along with. I remember we were doing well heading into the season and boogie got some kind of illness and missed like 12 games. We lost most those games and By the time he came back we had a losing record and they had fired Malone.

You can call the kings front office bad at drafting but, imo, there's only a few teams that have been good. Those old spurs teams that drafted manu and Tony Parker, and kawhi The warriors who drafted Steph, Klay, Draymond and Poole. There a reason we see the same guys year after year in the all-star game. The average NBA career is only 5 years.
