- In today's video, I go over how I preserve my finished colored pages from transfer and fading. I hope this helps! Thanks for watching.
I like to use Krylon Workable Fixative, but there's many other good brands out there. Here's a link to Krylon on Amazon, but most craft stores will have it in stock and possibly at a better price, so it's worth pricing it out.

I am an Amazon affiliate so if you choose to purchase any of the products I mention or link in this description, I get a small kick back which will go straight back into the channel. Using those links is no extra cost for you and there is no obligation to use them, but it just helps go toward funding my coloring habit so I can continue to share it with all of you!
I recommend you give it a try on a test page first before using it on your artwork. That way you can get a feel for how lightly to spray and how the paper and your mediums react!! 😉
This video is EXCELLENT! As a beginner colorist, I have so many questions and this video most certainly answered many of them. I can't thank you enough! ❤
@@michellechalmers8753 Oh wonderful! Happy to help!! 🤗
Thank you for the tips! I think O have oversaturated my pages. Kori gave me the genius tip to use it for sealing coloring pages in which I will be using alcohol markers to avoid the ink from bleeding 🎉
Oh that’s a great idea too!! 👍😁
@@jenscoloringcorner for the priner's ink I meant, the marker wiil bleed!
Good tips, thanks for sharing. I use fixativ only when I use soft pastels :)
Thanks for watching!
First off … WOW your work is breathtaking beautiful 😮😍 I have NO IDEA how I haven’t come across your channel before! Or how you dont have thousands more subscribers. But am so excited to have found you.
Funny, was looking for idea using distress/and flowers. Came upon yours from i think 7 months ago. Am watching that next. Hehe. And seen this.
I have debated getting this for so long! Now I’ve decided it is time! Haha! This is my sign.
I use pastels sometimes, and have just used hairspray. (I know, i know, not the best) but I didn’t really mind if lasted 100 years and it does keep them in place!
BUT yeah. Time to upgrade. 😄
And mostly because I usually use pencils. And some watercolor mediums. Basically all kinds mixed media 😂. And im always having to cut and put papers between pages for no transfer.
And i hate having to flip through my books and having papers in there separating pages.
I’ve wondered if this spray would really help not have to do that. And keep my uncolored pages (and colored) safe. ?!?
Sorry this has been very long message 😬
Im getting this today. Just wanted to ask .. seems be different versions of this spray. Your link took me to matte?? Is that correct.?? Thanks so much!!! ❤
Yeah it says matte finish, but it does still leave the page a little bit shiny for some odd reason. 🤷♀️
Happy you found my channel! I don’t do a lot of advertising and such…lol! Probably why I don’t have a lot of viewers. And I just started my channel at the beginning of this year so I haven’t had it going for that long really. But happy to have you! Let me know if you have any other comments or questions, and I’ll be happy to help!😊👍
@@jenscoloringcorner ohhh thank you for replying!! And so quickly ☺️ oh well that is wonderful that you have your channel doing good and growth, in this year!! I think you’re amazing! Thank you! Happy to be here.
Yeah i think ive heard others say leaves kinda shiny! But i love the way it looks on your pages! I dont mind at all. Just wanna be sure im getting the correct kind.
@@carriannescreations Awww! Thank you!! 😊🙏
Thank you for sharing. We don't have Krylon in Sweden. I have to find something similar.
Thanks for watching!
Great demo. Thank you!
Oh good!! 👍😅
Great tips, thank you
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks so much for this informative video, Jen!!! I was one of those that asked how you preserve your pages. Well done!!
Oh wonderful!! Glad you enjoyed it!! 👍😊
What about if you have a picture on the other side. How do you the one you done with getting the other side aka 2 side picture
Just cover it with a piece of paper. 😊👍
I asked folks on FB for suggestions but got none! LOL ...thankYouForYourHelp.
Glad I could help!! 😊👍
So do you do this before OR after you color or both?
This is to just preserve your coloring. So after.
Can this go over images with water colors? Does this eliminate the need to place a piece of parchment down in between the pages?
(Sorry I'm a new colorist 🙂)
No problem! So, yes, I use this on all of my pages with many different mediums. Watercolors too! And while I don’t personally use parchment to separate pages, you could, if you wanted extra protection. But with this spray coating over the pages, I don’t think it’s really necessary.
@@jenscoloringcorner Thank you!!
Thank you
You're welcome!!
What do you use to prevent colored pages from fading after framed?
This process is to protect the colored pages. you can then frame after you have sprayed the fixative. If you have a page that is already framed, you can simply remove it from the frame, spray the fixative and allow it to dry completely, and then reframe it. Hope that helps.
What about the colored pencil? I am scared they would bleed.
I use it on all my colored pencil work and as long as I don’t saturate the page with the fixative it’s fine. The one I demonstrated on was pencil work over alcohol markers.
@@jenscoloringcorner ok, thanks! I will try it.
@@artandcraftbysilke I mean, obviously it’s totally up to you. Try it first on one you don’t really care about. As long as you use a fine light mist it should be fine. 👍
@@jenscoloringcorner I am afraid, it depends on the pencil brand. Some are quiet water suible (hope thats the right word) like Brutfuner (which I use often). I will try it out on a sheet of paper and test all brands first. I have also seen fixative spray that is for watercolors. I also use watercolors often. Maybe I should buy one of these fixatives.
Do this product yellows after some years?
I have not noticed any yellowing.👍
The problem with this is it’s so toxic, and if you work on the coloring book in the future, you are still inhaling the vapors
Ok. I understand what you are saying however people can use their own discernment and choose to use it or not. I just had people ask me how I do it and so I made the video.
@@jenscoloringcorner it definitely does work for sure. I think it’s better for single coloring pages that you’re going to then put into a slipcover into a binder and not a book you continue to work on. I would love a video on other methods of preserving pages different fixatives that are nontoxic. For coloring books.
@@thecoloringoasis5616Where did you get your information? Once the fixative is dry, which should happen within 24 hours at the latest, the surface is neither toxic nor does the page emit any harmful fumes.
