Thanks for this!!! Also found a way to bind them super cheap from another youtuber - JI Colourist - using a heavy duty hole punch that punches for the happy planner discs and then you can disc bind them that way you can always take out pages and organize however you want!
Thank you for showing us this method of loosening your pages, because very often the book binding throws the picture off center or makes it impossible to get to the whole picture when the binding won't open enough to enable the very edge of the picture to be reached for coloring. Also, in many books two page spreads are not aligned very well, with the lines of the artwork not meeting on both pages. I did notice that using the paper cutter in the last step seemed to throw the picture off center on the page. Is there some way to avoid this? You definitely should be given an award for patience when using this method. Thank you for giving us a realistic view if how long it really takes.
I used to cut pages out with a craft knife but didn't like the result so I just stopped, which also kind of kept me from coloring more in these kinds of books. This will be such a big help! Thank you so much for sharing! 💕
Ahhhh this is genius! Thank you so much for sharing this with us. I had no idea. Sometimes my grandkids want to color the same photo as me and I tried copping it on the copy machine but get the gray stripe down the edge.
I've done this for years, because I hate coloring inside of a book, but I didn't have a heat gun. It definitely takes a lot longer to break the spine and slowly pull out a few pages at a time, than when using a heat gun. I have taken an X-ACTO knife to slowly shave off the thicker part of the glue from the spine, making sure to have the book face down on a self-healing sewing mat.
@@ColorfullyOptimistic It's a whole lot easier doing it your way with a heat gun now though. Thanks for the tip from when you mentioned it in a different video. I promptly bought a heat gun right after I heard you say that! 😉
If you don't have a heat gun using your hair dryer on low to heat the glue in the book, I have taken apart two coloring books, the only thing is every page is still tacky with glue and they stick together.
Thank you for posting this! I was just thinking about this yesterday. Do you have a link for your paper cutter? It looks like it higher quality and the size is perfect.
Great video Kori. Never thought of trying this. I once tried cutting apart one of my colouring books with a box cutter and a ruler... (I don't recommend this) a good way to cut fingers. The ruler tends to slide. I didn't lose any fingers it was just a hassle. From then on I took my books to a printing shop to have multiple books done.
Yeah I was going to go the print shop route but the cost per book on a CreateSpace paper book wasn't worth it for me. Oh man a ruler and box cutter. I tried it with an Xacto knife and was like hmm this isn't safe but oh well haha
@@ColorfullyOptimistic One of the many challenges of my life wielding any kind of workman's tool, zippers, and cords on blinds 😁although. I also agree with you that you can burn fingers from a heat gun too.
Thank you so much for this video. When I took one of my coloring books to a print shop, they told I had to take it apart myself and then they would spiral bound for me. I won’t tell you how much they charged for it, but the outcome was not good. It looked good when I did a quick flip through, but when I got home and took a real good look at it, well let’s just say I was quite disappointed in the outcome. So did others myself with a slicing tool and put each coloring page in a sheet protector, and I keep them in a binder, which I like much better. I’d like to give your way a try next time I want to do this, but I’ll have to use a hair dryer.lol. Great 👍 tutorial video. 👍👍💞💞👏🏽👏🏽
Yeah I just didn't find the price to have them cut the spine worth it on these cheap Amazon printed books. You can totally use a hair dryer and it will work - just takes slightly longer to heat that glue
Great video! I’ll give it a shot with my Dyson 🤣 because I don’t have a heat gun! I also like scanning my pages, and you are right, scanning from the book is hard to flatten it out when in the scanner!
I just don't like the disc binding -- I like to take them out and put them on a clipboard and that makes the edges from disc punches ruffle when you pull them out :). Maybe when I finish a book though.
I am colouring a Mythographic book and the pages are falling out. I’ve tried to find 10” x 10” page protectors but can’t . Does anyone have any suggestions for keeping the pages safe?..🥰
Yes, I did mention that at the beginning, but with these cheap CreateSpace books, ones that cost $5.99, it is cheaper for me to do it than pay a $1 per and the one by me charges more than $1 per book. So I'd rather just pull them apart myself, but it is definitely an option for those who cannot.
"If it's smoking turn it off"😂 love that.
Haha
That is really cool! Thanks so much for this tutorial, I had no idea I could do this at home without damaging the pages!
For sure! Just a little patience

Yes! There are a few people that disc bind them. I just leave mine loose leaf because I don't like the disc binding punches on the side of the pages.

Yeah I pull apart a lot of books and this method works really well.
Thank you 💜 This was simple and useful video for those of us that like to scan our pages to use different paper.
Or just don't want to fight the spine lol 😆. I hate the spine

I did the craft knife top for a long time until one day I was like I wonder if the glue reheats....

Yes! This will get rid of that gray stripe so it lays nice and flat for you :)

I used to use that method but like you said they take forever but it definitely works

Yes! The hair dryer works too. Takes a little longer to get the same temperature, but does the job.
I’ve been waiting for this video! Thanks for sharing!❤😊
Lol hope it made sense. After I made it I was like "hmmmm was that helpful or did I just blab?"
Great tutorial!! Lots of useful tips for doing it safely. The results are very nice!🙋👍
Thank you so much 😊
I've done this before with books, my hairdryer worked just as well but took slightly longer
Yes! That works just as well too
Thank you for posting this! I was just thinking about this yesterday. Do you have a link for your paper cutter? It looks like it higher quality and the size is perfect.
It is actually a pretty basic one!! Here's the link: amzn.to/3yyIPN9
Thank you so much for letting me know how to do this! I already the link and got one to use on my coloring books. 😌
For sure! Makes dealing with them so much easier.

works great for perfect bound books. Case bound books tend to be sewn instead of glued, then you have 'saddle sewn' which has staples.
Yes this tutorial is only for the cheap CreateSpace books
I don't pull apart my sewn ones
Thanks for showing how to do this! Very informative. 💜
You are so welcome! 💜
Kori thank you! This was such a helpful and detailed video. Love your videos and channel.
For sure! I'm glad this helped!
This was great-thanks for sharing!
My pleasure!
Excellent. Thank you.
Of course!
thank you hun...interesting to see
You are so welcome my lovely
This was really helpful. Thanks for demonstrating this.
Glad it was helpful!💜
Thank you for this video. I needed it. ✌

thank you for the video
You bet! Thanks for watching Rachel!

The dyson will work just fine!
@@ColorfullyOptimistichow does it work with a Dyson?? My stick Dyson doesn’t heat up?
@@HarperSophia I'm not sure with a Dyson. I don't own one
@@ColorfullyOptimistic ah ok thanks!
You might want to put something on your table top to protect especially if it’s a veneer that might lift up from the heat.
Yes I mentioned that in the video 😁 but my table top isn't veneer.
Awesome video!! Makes me want to separate all my Amazon books now lol 😂 Thank you for sharing, Kori!! Take care!💕💕💕
You should. It makes life so much easier.
Great video, have you thought about maming a disc bound book? I've done thst to all my bools, much easier.
I just don't like the disc binding -- I like to take them out and put them on a clipboard and that makes the edges from disc punches ruffle when you pull them out :). Maybe when I finish a book though.
Hi! Can I use a blow dryer? Love your channel, thank you for all thir advice! I appreciate you very much!
Yes, you can. It will just take longer to heat the glue.
🤩 🌟 Brilliant 🌟 🤩
Awe thank you!
Will a hairdryer work?
Yes! It will take a little longer because it doesn't have the same amount of high-temp concentrated heat, but definitely does the job
awesome tysmfs
Thank you so much for watching
I use a hairdryer and do the same thing.
Yup that will work. Takes a bit longer but still heats just fine and loosens that glue!
Would a hair dryer on high heat work ? I don't have a heat gun
Yes, it would, but it will take longer. Just be more patient :)
Great idea mate! Wonder if Mr 13 would do it for 10 cents a book for me lol. Thanks for sharing 🐨💕
Lol great idea!

Get the 12x12 scrapbook album refill sheet protector pages. That's what I use.
@@heatherwarner865 TY…I don’t know why I didn’t think of that….🤣🤣🥰
Yes, the 12 x 12 is what I use
Kinkos will cut the spine off any book or magazine for $1.00.

Good to know. Ty.
I didn’t know we could copy the books!?
I scan and print with my phone at home.
