    John, there are thousands, and perhaps even tens of thousands, of steam powered machines, and they are all wonderful in their own ways, but that Marshall engine is a real jewel. The owner's pride in his work and his care of his machine is obvious, and I thank you for showing us this beautiful machine.

    Great videoing John, lovely restoration on the Marshall, and a very good driver.

    You are lucky John to be so close to this reminder of the past, so much these days is a determination to forget history, and they never learn from past experience, so forever repeat the same mistakes.
    So nice for you to also share it with all of us elsewhere as well, only thing missing is the smell of hot oil and lightly steamed coal smoke.

    A great record of a very enjoyable day John, nice to be able to see & hear it in action. Be good to do some more filming with you next time I have the engine there, Beamish Museum is a fabulous location to operate all these old machines.

    Lot's of work to keep them running that well. I'm surprised they didn't have a dumping ash pan though. Or is that a cover over one that keeps any strays from hitting the ground?

    Does that tractor use any type of engine braking going down hill?

    • @neilthompson42
      @neilthompson42 2 роки тому

      Yes the engine relies on both engine braking & rear wheel friction rim brakes when going downhill.

    I have a vague recollection of you casting a few name plates, wasn't that one of them (Marshal)?
