    I bought the OpenRun for my wife last year; she likes them very much. My open-ear headphones (a different brand) broke recently, so this review helped me decide, and I bought a pair [of OpenRun Pro 2's] for myself. For those on the fence, one word to describe the NEW OpenRun Pro 2 is AWESOME! They are not cheap. I did consider the OpenRun Pro, but the Pro 2 is far superior to the earlier iterations, and I figured it was better to buy the latest and greatest because they are simply heads and shoulders above the competition; they may not be perfect for everyone, but for me personally, one week in using them, all I can say is WOW!

    This was a golden review - literally the only thing I care about is sound and mic quality at 20mph vs the original, and you covered that perfectly (mic at that speed matters for assistant/siri music control). xoxo!

      I wonder if a headband would sufficiently reduce wind noise to be understood better.
      Other than that, sounds like you could definitely make calls on a climb that isn't too steep :D

    Thanks for the well rounded review! Just got these as an MTBer and am fairly happy with them. They stay in place well, but do put pressure down on the back of my ears after a few hours of wearing helmet and glasses. Battery life claims seem pretty in-line. I can hear my surroundings great, though they are definitely still affected by wind.

    Took my first long run in these today and really enjoyed them. The vocal mode for podcasts worked well but I’ll try the treble next. It wasn’t love at first sight (or first run) but they quickly wore on me. I have a normal size head for an adult male and the minis work just fine for me; I feel like the regulars would stick out too far. Great review!

    Very informative Des, just wanted to add a use-case that is not covered in your review. Used the OpenRun Pro 2 on an intercontinental flight from the US to Qatar, for some reason the audio quality just collapsed in terms of volume/base. So works perfectly on the ground but quality degrades tremendously when up in the air. Tried it out & confirmed this hypothesis, by using it in Qatar & then only my next flight from Qatar to India. Not sure what the science behind it is, perhaps it could impact mountaineers as well at very high elevations. Again, keep up the good work !!

Now just last week they broke and I needed a new upgrade anyways and I thought these bad bois would be great 👍🏻. I maybe broke but I decided to upgrade due to the upgraded sound quality and IP55 for rain and sweat. I dont go enough in the river to justify the Openswim pros so I got the Pro 2's

    Personally tried the mini and the standard and I stayed with the mini. It's a lot less adjusting but has a snug fit. It works for me having to wear a hard hat most days. I was expecting both air and bone conduction to work at the same time to find out that it doesn't. It's going to do one or the other not both, which I'm perfectly fine with. Sometimes if I have a lot of background noise from work in the construction field, I will throw in ear plugs and switch to bone conduction to hear what's being played since listen to podcast most of the day. Overall, I recommend these headphones

    Just bought the OpenRun Pro 2 after watching the video. Didn't know that a new version was out. This is my fourth pair of Shokz, all still working, but battery life get worse after a lot of use. I use them mostly in the office and home. For Teams, UA-cam, Podcasts etc. They are so much more comfortable for hours at a time than over ear headphones from Bose, Sennheiser etc. Sound quality is of course much worse, but more than good enough for mostly speech and the Pro 2 sound was a clear upgrade from my previous OpenRun Pro.

    Regarding the mix of bone and air conduction in these and the degradation of quality in wind, the smart thing would have been to have profile switching from the app allowing pure bone conduction (for cycling for instance).

    • @jrzinho

      Is it available now, the change to pure bone conduction from app? I'm dying to buy this, i have sony xm5 headphone but had to do put grommet surgery and it makes me feel a little disoriented a bit when using it compared to before, i think due to the direct hole to inner ear by the grommet.

    This was a great review. Thanks for the more clear explanation that's not even on their site. My one question is... does the now traditional sound delivery for the lows make for sound leakage, bugging people around you? Lol as I'm writing this, yo u answered that question. But have YOU stood aside and heard the residual sound? Also, I never minded the proprietary cord. It was super simple and even one handed to pop on and off the headset. I see this USB-C port cover being a weak point, and eventually breaking...

    • @DesFit

    I've consider buying Shokz many times but I have some cheap Tribit earbuds that I bought on Amazon for probably less than $30 that comes with a charging case that doubles as a power bank and as I really cannot run or cycle without having the spacial awareness that comes from hearing sounds of traffic etc I only ever use one earbud at the time. That means that I can theoretically use up all the battery from one earbud - up to 7 hours claimed - and then just use the other one while the first one recharges in the charging case, giving me over 200 hours of audio in my ear before needing a recharge. And yes, the sound quality may not be as good as what Shokz can offer but it is certainly perfectly good for my training and for $30.

    • @ejisloco1051
      @ejisloco1051 4 місяці тому

      Same here.
      I tried the cheap one at Amazon coz I have no idea what bone conducting was.
      I was amazed it works
      So I’m happy with the cheap purchase……
      UNTIL…..
      I went to an ASICS convention where it showcased the original Shockz headphones.
      I tried it on and I never knew that they can be so clear (but then again it’s a combined bone conduction and air conduction )
      So I was really impressed and
      immediately checked my savings lol
      I honestly thought this were on par with the big names out there.
      So lucky for me I have some spare to spend and have just ordered my first original openrun pros2
      😎❤️

    • @_J.F_
      @_J.F_ 3 місяці тому

      @@ejisloco1051 I am sure that they are very good but I suppose that my point is that I don't really need very good when I am putting in an effort on the bike, or when out running for that matter. If you are sitting in a relaxing chair and listening is the priority then sound quality really does matter, but when your legs are pumping away, your pulse is up, yoru breathing is elevated, and the wind, traffic and whatever else noises are all over the place, then it doesn't really matter with the level of sound quality as this is not where your focus should be anyway.

    I have the the Open Run version, and while the sound quality is fine, I have a couple of issues I'd appreciate being addressed in another review or a comment, especially if they’ve been fixed in the new version:
    - When I connect the Chokz to both my phone and PC, and then leave the house, it beeps in my ears every 10 seconds or so indefinitely signaling that it lost connection with one device. To stop this, I need to turn the device off and on again. I'd like to see if this issue is been addressed in the new model.
    - I understand the move to USB-C, but it would be great if they included a magnetic adapter to maintain compatibility with their existing line. I really liked the convenience of just snapping it into place, and now I have to buy the adapter separately.
    - Finally when the battery is low and the device turns off, you have to manually turn it back on after plugging it into the charger; otherwise, you might be surprised the next day to find that it hasn’t charged at all!
    - The microphone quality is poor when there's background noise. People I call often complain about the bad voice quality, this seems to be addressed in the new model I guess!
    Overall, I really like the OpenRun it keeps your ears open, helping to avoid many ear-related issues.

    I have the opencomms, and a big downside is at high volumes it feels like I'm getting an electric shock... Especially if it's an incoming call ring.

    How does the sound quality compare to the openfit air? I only do running and cycling. Any reason to go for one over the other apart from fit?
    The air are significantly cheaper

    I had the Suunto wings headphones and sent them back….very disappointed when it came to audiobooks and ambient noise while riding my bike. I went back to my Bose shades. But unfortunately Bose stopped selling them.

    Do these headphones pick up voices sound around you? I have hearing loss in my right ear and thought these might be a good alternative to have as a hearing aid in certain circumstances

      These don't amplify surrounding sounds. Only bluetooth sounds.

    If my Aeropex die out I might get these. Don't like that the waterproof-rating isn't as good as the aeropex, also I'm a bit concerned that the bass being done over air conduction affects your sense of hearing of your surroundings - pure bone conduction sound, bass-quality aside feel like an extra sense of hearing - so you can hear the music while being fully aware of the world around you.

      Having tried many open headphones and earbuds I’d say these are still some of the best in the “hear what’s going on around you” department. You do have a point though. I experienced this sometimes with my Bose (which have a lot of low end). I found the solution to be EQing them. Personally I haven’t found the OpenRun Pro2s to have this issue as although they have much more low frequencies (and sound pretty good) it’s often still not louder than the lows of my environment.

    How do Sony Linkbuds compare? Have you reviewed them?

    • @NewbGamingNetworks
      @NewbGamingNetworks 4 місяці тому

      I just got the pro 2s and have been a linkbuds user for 2 years. Loved my donuts, but the linkbuds have a major emphasis on the mids and highs. I put on the pro 2s and notice a large difference in low end. They are leakier to those around you but leave your ear more open. Much easier to hear your surroundings. They however have a hard time getting super loud if that’s your style. Let me know if you have any specific questions.
      I’m also trying out the Bose Ultra Opens (which I’m admittedly almost liking more than the Shokz just for sound quality and clarity while retaining most other upsides)

      Thanks for that explanation.
      I like the linkbuds because they're so much smaller, but seeing this now I'm really undecided.
      My use case is mostly running along sidewalks, and I want to be able to hear my surroundings. I don't like that shut-off feeling from full ANC Earphones while running.

    I bought 2 one for a family member and me in Hong Kong. Both broke off in exactly the same area just off the part that goes over the ear. Within the warranty period but Shokz did not honor the warranty. The serial no is imprinted on the earplug and I offered to mail it in to them but they want you to read it and it is so so so so tiny ! The customer service was not good and I am miffed as both broke off in exactly the same place, They tried to offer me a 10% discount on new pair but I will not invest again as they did not stand behind their product.

    Great review. I love that it is USB-C. My plan was to get the Open Swim Pros (which does NOT use USB-C) just because I like the extra water protection as opposed to me swimming a lot. After watching this review I might get the OpenRun Pro 2s now. My only concern is that I use these on planes a lot and I love being able to drown out the background noise with earplugs. Is there an option to turn on the bone conduction to 'bone conduction only' as it were or be able to tweak the settings to maximise the bone conduction option vs air?
