  • 10 Unusual Nano Fish & Shrimp Combinations (30+ SPECIES) That Will Make A Beautiful & Peaceful Tank. Here is a list of over 30 fish and invertebrates which can all live to gether interchangeably and mostly - in peace. (please watch my panda loach care videos before considering them- they are a rare and beautiful nano fish, that requires some extra care :)
    I hope this is useful to both long time, experienced fish keepers and beginners alike! If you want more information about each species, how to care for and even breed them- please just do a search through my existing videos and most these fish are covered (as well as many plants and shrimp species too!) I hope this spices up yiur imagination and is useful for hobbyists of all experience levels.
    however I have also put together some of my favorite trios of species for your nano style planted tank, pond or aquascape, in a top 10 list. From Micro fish that are tiny and sparkly like Celestial pearl Danios & Emerald dwarf Rasbora, to the colorful and hardy common guppies and endlers livebearers - all the way to the slightly more demanding and rare panda loaches, multistriped dwarf loaches and unusual species of caridina and neocaridina shrimp!
    This is a dynamic list that should provide something for every one. A nice usage of all the water column, from bottom feeders to top dwellers, and a wide and interesting array of behavior and movement and reproductive habbits that make for an entertaining combination of species.

    Just looking at all your plants stuffing your tanks, I’m wondering HOW can you keep the stem plants rooted? I have a 10 gal that has kuhli loaches that keep swimming too fast at the roots and the stem plants keep uprooting. The flow is moderate and because they keep getting uprooted they don’t seem to be growing roots anymore.

      I have a good video with tips and tricks to aquascaping and keeping plants down, but im not positive of the title "planting in new substrate" or so "how to plant tissue cultures" may be the titles... but anyhow there are a few ways.
      1. Lead strips called plant weights (yes they're safe, the lead is mixed with aluminum I believe).
      2. Float plants at the top and let them grow white runner roots all over, over 5 to 20 days, then plant those once you have some roots to work with, and they'll just end up holding on better.
      3. Sand cap everything with an inch or two of sand and simply insert stems ...sand holds it.
      4. Set a small rock on the bent base of a plant so even if the plant has to grow in an "L" shape, it will stick, and then you move the rock about a month later.
      5. Plant everything before filling the tank...simply plant in soaked substrate which will hold onto the stems...but you want to keep up humidity...Google "Dry Start Method for more info on this."
      Good luck!
      Sincerely, Alex.

    Another great and informative video.
    You totally got me with the recent video pushing Aquatic Arts. I used your 15% coupon and purchased a school of kubotai and CPD. Am not disappointed.
    Question: I have a 29 gallon with 12 Ember Tetras, 10 Pygmy Cories and 3 Amano Shrimp. I'm looking for a small fish to fill in the top portion and I saw your earlier response suggesting Coral Pencil Fish or Clown Killies. I don't want a lid on this tank so I'm wondering if either of these would work without fearing the dreaded "suicide leap" (Please say clown killies).

    • @Fishtory
      @Fishtory  5 років тому +2

      So i must say, I do not use lids. Yes I have lost 1 or 2 of each in a year, but even a half inch or inch of glass prevents most leaps. They only seen to leap when a kid comes over and bangs on the glass, or something loud falls over, it's not a normal behavior. But I'd be lying it i said they didnt sometimes jump. I like clown killies a lot, they usually dont move fast anywhere, theyre just a beautiful fish.

    • @Fishtory
      @Fishtory  5 років тому +3

      Right on. I used aquatic arts previous to any endorsement of course.
      Anyone, breeder, store or brand I support and or endorse has not paid me money for or any deals upfront for advertising their stuff. It's always people and things that I personally prefer as well as use, and also in almost every case, i will not endorse a website unless they can cut my viewers a deal. (with the exceptions of ucas Bretz and Greg Sage - whom both are people who have spent decades breeding lines of livebearers, plecos or oddball fish that I keep and which I want folks to know who the credit of countless hours of painstaking care and attention to detail, is owed to).
      But yes aquatic arts gives a ton back to local schools, homeless and abused womens shelters, pet adoption, alternating charities and also (maybe most impressively) as they grow they are buying more and more cichlids, corydoras, and livebearers from local breeders in the midwest. Which is becoming exceedingly rare- and i think it is what makes this hobby a true community and sustainable ecosystem. Instead of pumping money overseas to sweatshop fish farms essentially.
      Okay rant over haha... but it's why im fine paying overnight shipping - to keep fish safe and this company growing. When i first featured them, they had 3 employees- now they've worked all the way up to 12 or 13 more- all fish lovers with education and or experience in the hobby

    Panda garra are cool - use some round stones and make current flow fast across these and you will see some natural behaviour of the garra. I have these in 350 litres and build a fast flow area near the surface directly under the light and they are more visible and more out in the open.

    I have the short nosed algae eating shrimp from Aquatic Arts. They are fascinating, out and about all the time, constantly grazing on any and all algae, even BBA, amazing little shrimp.
    What I love about your tanks is you have some common fish that beginners can easily find and thrive with, and then you have some hard to find nano fish that are interesting enough to keep even a jaded fish keepers attention.
    AND you break all the rules with the combinations and stocking levels you successfully keep. It's always interesting and educational to see what you are up to in your tanks, Alex.
    👍💕👍

    • @Fishtory
      @Fishtory  5 років тому +1

      I know i haven't been doing a ton of history centered videos this month, however, I get asked this stocking idea question constantly and figured id list some easy to find ones and some unique nano stuff that you'll never find at a big box fish store.

      Hmmm what size tank, and how many cherry barbs do you have already? (They're fairly aggressive... not mean necessarily, but they'll hold their own and swim fast.)
      I'd lean towards something like an Odessa barb, Green tiger barbs or albino tiger barbs (6 to 8 of any of those)... perhaps a dojo loach or zebra loach. Then maybe corydoras (orange Venezuelan cory cats are orange and metallic blue or black....kinda cool looking.)
      Also any zebra, kythit or pearl danios (I like the long fin zebra or leopard danios). And you could do 6 to 10 of those probably.
      Kuhli loaches work well at the bottom also...and all these listed species live with the cherry barbs in the wild

      I would say coral pencil fish are a great choice, clown killies are awesome if you're worried about shrimp, since they stay up top and have very small mouths. More ideas could be tinwini danio aka goldring danios, or choprae danios aka glow light danios. Or as said by JustLem, some marbled hatchet fish could look cool- however they stay up top completely.
      Lots of potential there, especially with color! Embers with orange, reed tetras or green neon schools... if you have lots of cover and hides hides for the shrimp then rummynose tetras are beautiful (school together more tightly than almost any other aquarium fish

    Planted aquarium newbie question . Do you think dwarf cichlids and amanos will be a good combo. Got an heavily planted 6 gallon aquatop with amanos . Thinking of changing it up a bit

    • @Fishtory
      @Fishtory  5 років тому +1

      Well personally, I think 6 gallons is a bit too small for even dwarf cichlids other than maybe a pair of apistos or checkerboard cichlids (something under 2.5 inches max)... because they need the whole tank to be their territory for spawning instinct.... you could try it, and i think amano shrimp are one of the stronger/aggressive shrimp that can hold their own often times... however my kribs ate all my amanos the first day- so id say it would be with extreme caution...and make sure they are some of the very small cichlids with that tank...provide them at least 2 spots to hide (sticks to burrow under in a sandy substrate, a stack of rocks with an overhang, a ceramic pleco/apisto hide...or coconut shell cave.... 3 is ideal because they like to pick a nest and then be able to have back up nests just in case they feel stressed. Perhaps german blue rams would work also....but if you have shrimp with them, id try one first and make sure there's places for the shrimp to hide in plants and or on a stick or something up high near water level.
      Cichlids are all unique pairs and a lot of fun, so it's not unheard of, and my dwarf kribs have paired off and then totally ignored even neocaridina cherry shrimp twice in the past.
      Last advice, even though this tank is crowded...would he to get 5 or 6 chili rasboras,lime green rasboras or exclamation point rasboras (the tiniest body style their is in the hobby)....and that may allow the cichlids to be more distracted by the faster moving fish than the shrimp.
      Good luck, my friend!
      And thank you for watching.

    I’m curious about the common causes of Cordydora death. I love this fish but they die quite often or completely disappear from the tank. They die when the water parameters are perfect and what seems like suddenly. I just transformed my tank to the Father Fish method 3 days ago and did have a Cory die today. I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong???

    • @Fishtory
      @Fishtory  3 роки тому +2

      Any time you change your tank around there's a chance you kicked up mulm or even just stressed out some fish. I'd stick with the changes, make sure you have lots of plants and do decent size water changes with corycats- as they really love water changes and often spawn if you do a change of 40% or more
