I really hope you enjoy this video I have made. When I first started this channel, people seemed to get a buzz from learning about the brand and some history behind timepieces, as well as seeing a watch review.
I aim to include where I can some fun and interesting back story to my reviews, where sometimes newer brands, and Chinese watches don't always have that to offer. With that in mind, if you like my videos, please subscribe and help me grow this channel to be one of learning, fun and review all at the same time.
I really appreciate you watching my content, and if you wish to support the channel, apart from subscribing, check out my eBay shop, as there I have a nice selection of watches and straps I hope you like! Thanks so much.
www.ebay.co.uk/str/watchmewit... The small print: All watches in all my videos are genuine items and not copies or fakes. Homage watches are legal and I just review them. I am careful to use the word "homage" when presenting that type of watch, because that is what they are. All images and sounds used are either my own or used under the fair use policy. Thank you. If you really fancy supporting the channel, consider being a Patreon member! Thanks

The problem with Vostok's is that they are so affordable and therefore collectable . I've just ordered my 7th from Meranom.

Hurry up, then. They are running out of watches, 95% of them "out of stock".

Probably one of the first UA-camr who has noticed how friction bezel works! Well done! I can only add that you can regulate friction to some degree. It depends on the way you install bronze wire inside the bezel.

Thanks! And you are correct about the bezel adjustment. You can bend the metal ring to adjust how tightly it grips.

The 090 is known as the barrel, the lesser 119 is a short barrel, 060 is the pillow, then there is the 710 which is a squared off 090 with the tonneau or cover over the lugs missing, 170, 150, 420 are kinda variations on the theme. The swing lug Amphibia was the first of its name, the 090 was the original "ministry issue" type in 1967 hence why Vostok's special editions are 1967's, this was followed by the almost savage looking 710 which itself was replaced by the Ratnik in more recent years. The Ratnik is basically a brass cased 060 in a pvd brown finish with its own camo sleeve attached to the strap, standard Vostok hands and bezel etc.
Komandirskie's were originally known in the 70's as Commander's and had a hacking 2234 movement, date window as standard, they were field watches and not so waterproof as the Amphibia. The Commander suffix was dropped as some thought Commander Commander sounded a bit weird to some folk so Komandirskie became the little brother to the Amphibia, still with a reasonable water resistance but nothing deeper than a river. On that subject Vostok were involved in a exercise to rescue a sunken submarine at varying depths, it survived to 800m was it but because it wasn't certified and logged its never been accepted as a record.
"Created in CCCP" in Russian is the civilian available models, "Zakas MO CCCP" is "by the order of the ministry of defence CCCP" and were exclusive to military shops and bases to military personnel. "Made in USSR" usually were export versions but there is some confusion as some issued Amphibia's had that. However, like so much in Soviet lands, you couldn't go "what ho, I need a watch and fancy an amphibia" sort of thing, everything you had was assigned to you according to your station, like the cars or jobs, yes jobs were assigned and if you didn't fancy it, they invited you to an exclusive club over in Siberia where tall burly men with big sticks remonstrated with you about the error of your ways. Everyone wanted of course a car, family men working in offices of course waited a couple of years and was jolly grateful for his 4 wheeled pile of poo cos not being grateful also invited you to the special resort in Siberia, childless couples might have got a motorbike or a Vyatka which was a ripped off 1950's Vespa GS150 and everyone else got a cast iron, solid tyred abomination of a bicycle after a 2 year wait of course.

I love me a vostok, I have three atm, the jewel on the crown being a Neptune SE 960743 (no.545 out of 1500). I'll probably buy a K-35 and a classic amphibia next, and I'm planning to add super luminova to the dial/hands on the amphibia.
Also, You should give the vostok milanese straps a try: they're exceptional quality (thick and dense chain link that doesn't nip hairs) and they're about £8 on Meranom.

I recently showcased my very early Boctok, very small watches they were with the unusual octagonal case, I have three others but they aren't working unlike the recent acquisition which runs OK but needs regulating I think.

I think Vostok watches are very decent watches; to begin with they have a clear identity
However, at the same time, I think the company does not do "the extra mile", reason for which I would not recommend the purchase of their product, less in the current pandemic environment. Not from them - Meranom in Christopol, nor from any third party because you might find yourself in a more than likely bad situation, as a buyer and / or for under guarantee services.
My point: Vostok should pay more attention to issues like shipment, lead time and follow up. In normal conditions or in "pandemic" conditions, they should not take an easy position about the quality of the perceived service when it comes to lead times, they should engage in a proactive task that reaches the Russian Post, etc., and avoid lost in transit products, which happened to me; their lack of engaging in a proactive resolving task is really unique. They basically have no answers, no actions.. nothing. It seems to be that a Lost in Transit item is just the most normal thing... "it is what it is..". They can blame the Russian Post service to any extend, but, no matter how Vostok pictures it, it is Vostok problem!
It is a problem the company has to deal with and they do not show willingness, at least, I did not perceived it. Again, it is not Russian Post problem, it is Vostok's; issues like this create and contribute to a negative perception of the company, it reflects a "third world" image.
Vostok, no matter how good your product is, you show no commitment to customers.

I will do a mod video to show how easy it is to work on a vostok. The costs of parts vary depending where you buy from. I like parts from one-second-closer as the quality is exceptional. Take a look at their website to see the options and costs. Regards, dan.

I got a bezel from One Second Closer but it's very loose and spins easily. Did you have this issue with yours? I can't correct it with the tension ring, it is just too loose.

Funny looking New Forest... missing erm... trees and stuff, now Heingestbury Head I could say yep, sea, shingle etc seagulls, nope no Isle of Wight... BTW Favinov makes absolutely beautiful aftermarket paddle and arrow sets for Vostok's including blue lume sets and dials, his gear is top notch too, if you have the older 2209 he can make paddle hands for them too, find him on ebay.
