Does it actually fold the ends of the staple back on the inside, or is it just driven through like a staple gun into a corkboard?

It folds the staple back in. With that said, if there isn't enough back pressure on the inside layer of cardboard, it may only staple and close on the upper cardboard. If that makes sense.
