    I’m surprised you were able to find that many MBTA trains that weren’t derailed, on fire or otherwise broken down.

      That’s mostly the subway. The commuter rail has it (mostly) better.

    My goodness... i have a personal relationship with the MBTA commuter rail! Before My aunt worked for a coach company i used the commuter rail from Lowell to North station to go to boston! Brings back amazing memories going to Lowell stopping at the tiny dunkins at the station being super excited to go spend a day in my fav city while the workhorse of the commuter rail the F40PH is pulling me and my mom to Boston! you absotuly deserve my sub! (Sorry for the bad English I have dyslexia so... go easy on me)

      Thanks for sharing, and for the sub! And no worries at all, I completely understand what you’re saying

    Nice compilation!
    I grew up riding the MBTA commuter rail and old B&M Budd Liners from Bradford and Andover to Boston. From where your camera is positioned in Brdford, that's where the mainline track was. I grew up above those new platforms on Front Street. My dad used to bring me over to the white fence along the ravine so I could see the trains.
    Looking at the Bradford Depot at the west end facing to your camera, was a yardmaster's office with a radio. Where the commuter parking lot is, was once a freight yard. The B&M used to station a small switcher there to handle freight traffic along the Georgetown Branch up to the paper mill. The mill wasn't the only industry back then and other businesses and industries received or shipped goods via rail. That dwindled down and Guilford killed the remaining traffic then the paper company closed. All of that now is a trail. The tracks yard disappeared in the mid to late 70s and returned when the MBTA made that a storage yard, albeit, only a couple of tracks now.
    Ballardvale used to have a team track where that station platform is located and at one time a few more tracks where the parking-lot is today. Those new condos went in about 25 years ago, I think and were built where mill buildings used to stand. Imagine paying close to $400K to live next to the railroad tracks! When the NIMBYs first moved in, they omplained about the trains making noise and blowing horns. This is why there are no longer horns blown through Andover.

    I like these videos you have.
    Question though. Why do most MBTA's have a mix of single level cars and bi-levels in the consist⁉
    Just curious.

    • @rail_spike_productions
      @rail_spike_productions  2 місяці тому

      I’m glad you enjoyed. Most MBTA single level coaches do not have bathrooms, so they often try to distribute double deckers between trains as almost all of them have functional bathrooms

    Was that the wash train in there a few times with the single tanker in the middle? If so any idea when they are going to do the Middleboro/Lakeville line? Id love to catch it out there

    • @rail_spike_productions
      @rail_spike_productions  Місяць тому

      Yes, that was the wash train. These days they have a crew Sunday through Friday during the day and Monday through Thursday at night. They don’t go out to middleboro that much because the Worcester and Franklin lines are prioritized as they tend to have the most problems with slippery rail

      As crazy as it sounds, the wash train was here last night! I caught it on a secondary track in brockton just by being at the right place right time! I chased it to the next RR crossing going northbound (they were done for the night so they picked up to track speed) but super cool to see!

    Cool footage & interesting consists. Also, I ended up seeing the Geo! I’m gonna miss 1647 but my shot of it was a W (Caught it at wilmington racing the Downeaster w/ a really cool hornshow)

      That’s good to hear - I was out of town that day so I just chased it like there was no tomorrow on the south side 😂 It was a great crew running it up North for sure. The north side work extra crew consists of some great folks

      A bit odd for sure, but it’s not the first geometry train I’ve chased with a 1600 on the South side. However, it most likely was the last

    • @rail_spike_productions
      @rail_spike_productions  4 місяці тому +1

      There was a broken down train blocking the main line there a little before that. Dispatch was letting the traffic build up get through and the faster Amtraks got priority over the commuters
