The ending of season four of Big Mouth was arguably the most open ended the series has ever had. Whereas the previous season finales set us up with an obvious transition point, this season left us with a few vague plot trails that will surely expand into Big Mouth’s usual surprises in the confirmed upcoming season. But even though there aren’t necessarily any mysterious theories a’brewin this time around, I have plenty of ideas for what might go down in the next few months of 8th grade. I’m Whitney Van Laningham, and here’s everything you can expect in Big Mouth season 5.

It was kinda like the last ep of season they did like a future thing
I really hope they bring back Natalie; the boys and Jessi knew her before she realized she was trans, and while it was super cool to see her and Jessi become friends over summer, and we saw way the rest of the boys cabin reacted to her but not really Andrew or Nick, I felt like she was more of a way to introduce the anxiety mosquito when she could be a super cool and lovable character.
If memory serves, Missy is starting a club for students with underrepresented identities, so maybe Natalie transfers to their school, maybe she starts by trying to hide the fact that she's trans but she gets outed when one of the boys accidentally dead names or misgenders her, and the show can talk about outing people, and for support Jessi and Missy go to comfort her and ask her to come to a meeting, where she also meets the other LGBT+ characters like Jay, Matthew, and Ali, and we see them build a support network.
100% agree. I loved the friendship she formed with Jessi and she definitely deserves more characterization
I agree I really liked natalies character in the short time she had in the show. I would love for her to become a recurring character in the show

The only way I can imagine them making the Self-Harm walrus work is by giving him a similar role to Milk where every time he talks, he gets told to shut up or get assaulted. It’d be really hilarious to see the Gratitoad do a complete 180 and wreck him.

personally, i really want to see more attention given to Caleb. he’s a very stereotypical autistic character, but i feel like the show could make up for that by properly exploring his character, what autism is and how prevalent ableism is.
for example, Matthew could definitely be seen as a stereotypical gay character but i feel like the show makes up for that with his growth through the seasons and further character development.
He's autistic? I actually didn't notice. Caleb is a great character overall. He should get more development. I liked seeing him check Matthew at the museum.
@@marissawilson4644 from what i’ve seen, i don’t think it’s ever stated that he’s autistic but he is definitely a stereotypical autistic character. he doesn’t reallly show emotion, his voice is monotone, he always says out loud what’s happening, he’s smart, etc.

i don’t think he’s been confirmed as autistic, but his character definitely has a lot of stereotypical autistic traits. for example, he speaks very bluntly and often doesn’t correctly interpret the tone of the other characters. in one episode, he’s also carrying a sheet with different emotions on it and points to a sad face and says ‘Sad’ when one of the characters gets upset. i also believe there was an episode where he became extremely upset when his backpack was touched but i can’t remember exactly. even if not specifically autistic, he was definitely written as the stereotype of a ‘special needs’ kid
Caleb is my favorite character because he randomly shows up and just tells the truth that everyone else denies or can't see. I just want to see a storyline that focuses on him, whatever it is.

the reason he says things the other characters don’t is actually (in my opinion) a sign that he’s autistic. many autistic people struggle with social cues and so it’s possible Caleb does not realise that there is an underlying reason the other characters aren’t saying everything. For example, Caleb doesn’t ‘get’ Matthew’s teasing of Coach Steve at the 9/11 memorial and so is very blunt and says what he observes and what he has worked out.
I really want Jay to outgrow the pillows.
He had outgrown them until the end of the season. His character as a whole has changed a lot in a positive way thoughout the show.
Yeah, I'd like to see him finally throw 'em away and get serious serious with Lola.
@@zosiapsps I definitely agree! I got so upset a Jay when he did what he did at the end of Season 4; gave into his sexual pleasure, because Lola wouldn't say "I love you". But I can't wait for Season 5!😁

I honestly think it will be good for her if they got together, all the guys she has dated have giant egos and are insisitive, yes Devon has some baggage of his own but honestly we have seen time and time again in the relationship with Devin he is kind and thoughtful and puts the girls feelings before his own and I honestly would like to see a focused stable relationship for Missy for once. There could be some drama coming from Andrew and Devin but honestly I think of Missy got together with Devon, Missy and Andrew could go on their own journey to strengthen their friendship
I disagree. Devon is different from the others. He respects her as she is while giving her space to grow. Nick was just a fling, Andrew got super possessive, and Lars was a passive aggressive control freak. Devon will be a great match as long as they take things slowly.

@@PenguinGuy17 Sure, I can see Coach Steve having Ace-like qualities. But they've never actually confirmed him as an ace character, so my comment stands. I would like A.) to see a character who is actually confirmed as asexual not just implied and B.) for Big Mouth to go more into detail about all of the Ace and Aro-spec categories like Demisexual/Demiromantic, Gray-asexual/Gray-romantic, Aceflux/Aroflux Lithosexual/Akoisexual, Fraysexual, Autochorissexuals and the list goes on. I say this mainly because, there are many people who believe that all Aces 'hate' sex and all Aros 'hate' love when that simply isn't true. For instance, I Identify as an Ace-Aro but I wouldn't mind having a relationship (queerplatonic or otherwise) with somebody so long as it only involves sitting together playing video games, watching movies, reading some awesome books, and playing music. Anyhow, if Big Mouth doesn't bring in an ace rep, that's okay. Sex Education and BoJack Horseman both have done a great job at that already. And I'm not saying that you're wrong, I'm just saying if they have confirmed gay, bi, pan, and trans characters, it would be nice to have a confirmed ace character and perhaps talk about what it's like going to school as someone who has no sexual desire/attraction and being surrounded by a lot of allosexual people who don't understand. That would at least make a good episode if they do it right. That's just me though

Frankly? Matt and his dad's relationship is far more engaging and interesting to me than Matt and his mom's. I don't really want to watch a bigot struggle for an entire year or two before finally coming to terms that there's nothing wrong with her son.
If the show really does end then it’s OK by me the show had a good run and I think the spin off show they’re making is going to be pretty good
I think there is gonna be a love bug. With Devon falling for Missy, Nick for Jessi, Jay and Lola’s love war, Devin falling out of love/jealousy for Devon and Missy, and Matthew getting back with Aiden. Seems logical to me but who knows.

I think duke is kinda like nicks hormone monster because he helps nick whenever he has a problem just like Maury helps Andrew and Connie helps Jessi. I think it would be great for duke to continue guiding nick in season 5

For Matthew’s mom, I kinda think it’ll be a situation where his mom will most likely come around when Matt’s a senior in highschool or in college. She’ll let him “make his choice”, but with Matt and his Dad’s new found friendship and closeness...she slowly comes around. We could even have a whole other musical scene with Matthew’s mom and Matthew himself. Idk, I think that’ll let him grow more as a person being able to connect with his dad more in his teens?

Something I want to see was something shown in the future episode, and that's Andrew and Gina getting together. She hasn't really been a big part of the plot since season 2, and I feel like she was a fan favorite. Maybe in season 5 Andrew discovers she's a big horny pervert like he is, and they start bonding and dating over it, could also lead to some interesting scenes with Nick who may be upset Andrew got together with his ex.

They definitely need to go into eating disorders, as well as maybe a transmasculine or non-binary character. - also an asexual character!!!! normalize not having that kind of attraction!1 as much as i love this show i often feel alienated because I have to look away during a lot of the scenes

I would really love it if they show some kind of monster that was like for asexuals or something. I think it could be fun to see a character that finds sexual things really gross and they don't understand why people like to do them. (Like my sister)

@@CloudTribe same! I loved Devon helping her with discovering her black side of her family. Since she’s only with her Caucasian mother and her dad who everyone calls a dork. Maybe they’ll add another black or POC character next season for Missy & Devon to build a friendship/relationship with.

I feel like Jess coming back instead of going thru more of her own development on her own in the city was a missed and wasted opportunity. Could have introduced a lot of new characters, themes and scenes outside of the typical neighbourhood of the show.
The most interesting parts about season 4 was ironically all the side characters and not Nick, Andrew and Jess.That might be a testement to good writing and character development which you don't always get out of tv shows.

My hope is that Big Mouth has a few more seasons to go through the high school years, ending on prom night or graduation since high school is undoubtedly the most insane time to go through puberty and where we experience our biggest changes.
for some reason I feel like one of Matthew’s parents may be closeted and maybe there’ll be a moment like the dad’s monologue at the end of call me by your name when he says that he envies his son’s relationship. I think you’re right about Matthew’s storyline and he was added in after the first season and so his story has slowly been expanded, but I think there was definitely some writing this season that was a set up for his story, and I hope we’ll get to see the resolution
also, I may be asking too much of the show because it already means so much to see mental health represented, but it would be amazing to see one of the characters have a chronic illness or something like that. I know there’s a character in a motorized wheelchair and I think one who uses forearm crutches in the background, but having a major character go to a bunch of different doctors and face the social stigma (looking normal but feeling pain, using cane, student disability services, etc.)
I hope the show does make a full transition to high school at some point, I think that would be a lot of fun to watch. Also, I’m waiting for one of the kids to go full emo/goth (my money is on Jessi), and/or a deep dive into different friend groups/cliques, and before the series ends, at least one or two characters has to lose their virginity… I mean, that’s kind of what a lot of the show has been ultimately building towards, right? Pillows don’t count.
I bet Devon starts to have a crush on Missy although missy sees him as a friend.
Missy only saw him as a friend because Devon was still married. She did admit to being attracted to him while she spoke to Mona.
@@marissawilson4644 True but I think they're relationship should be just friends because thats what Missy's character truly needs a male platonic friend who she doesn't end up with because she's been in toxic romantic relationships with guys like Andrew and Lars who were her friends at one point and she needs a non romantic relationship with Devon and to show that not every guy she becomes friends with doesn't have to become her boyfriend by the end which is the pattern of all her previous romantic relationships.

I thought it's interesting that Matthew ignored Aiden's texts after his mom reacted badly to his coming out. Because Aiden was the one who encouraged Matthew to come out, but Matthew's identity goes beyond his relationship with Aiden. Coming out doesn't always work out well for everyone, despite the message that that LGBTQ people get that they should be out and proud. I mean in the ideal world, people who come out should be accepted, but in reality they're still often rejected by their families, and some people aren't ready to deal with those risks.

Netflix originals don’t last long because they have to pay more money as the show goes on so they end it before that happens. It’s the same tactic as Disney’s 4 season rule.
I genuinely believe that the self-harm walrus is going to be a big part of season 5, and perhaps a new animal based issue named the "Eating Disotter" and it would be Related to eating disorders:)
Probably Jessi will live with her dad instead of her mom and finally be happy in the next season.
Also need to include Bipolar Disorder along with different types of it, like Cyclothymia aka Mild form of Bipolar Disorder. Would be nice.

If season 5 focuses on surviving trauma, I would predict that Jessie's mom will die. It seemed weird to me how it was emphasized that she would see her mom the next day when she was leaving. Additionally, I had forgotten about the ponytail killer, and that could be a possible suspect considering her mom has one.
There is honestly nothing lola can do to jay that his brother's haven't already done🙄 but the only difference is that she can actually get sued
Ykw why I feel like there's supposed to be a key concept in each season?
S1 was puberty of course like with Jessie's period and Nick being a late bloomer
S2 was on body positivity and depression
S3 was toxic masculinity and toxic friendships
S4 was finding true identity
S5 was on hate and love(spoiler for those who didn't watch the future seasons)
And right now for season 6 it's supposed to be the concept of family

I think if they dug deeper into depression more specifically suicidal thoughts that would be interesting. And something I would really like is if they wrote Caleb into the storyline as the suicidal person in question because of perhaps his loneliness caused from his lack of social skills and autism. I know its very specific but I think it would be unexpected for a lot of the characters and can possibly bring character development to Caleb and others
I predict we will see more of Jay and Lola together. Probably fighting, possibly expressing feelings they still have for each other. But I predict if they do get back together they won’t stay together. And I think this is because Jay and Lola are not ready to date again as they are not for a proper relationship. Like many teens their age
I have said this before on other videos but I’ll say it again: I think Jay did the right thing breaking up with Lola. Believe me, if someone doesn’t say it back because they’re doubting their feelings, it’s a one sided relationship. Sure Lola was afraid of being hurt but she could’ve at least *said* something to him. Lack of communication skills is not good in a relationship

when it comes to Big Mouth it is my close second favorite Adult Animated Netflix Series the first being Inside Job as well as BoJack Horseman
Big Mouth is renewed to season 6, that’s probably going to be their last season.

I predict Big Mouth DOES have a good chance of a season 7, but that's likely gonna be the penultimate season.
I feel like 8th grade was hard year for a lot of people
I think eating disorders would be a target topic for the show that would totally make sense.
As far as a finale goes, here is my theory. The hormone monsters showed up when they all started puberty. And, as coach Steve showed us, they stay with you until you lose your virginity. So, I think that is really the only way to end the show in a way that fits with that concept. Not everyone, but someone in the group in the shows finale will lose thier virginity, causing thier hormone monster to leave and be reassigned.
Heck, maybe that could even be the start of the Human Resources show, or a part of the story.
I hope big mouth keeps going for awhile it’s been doing really good

I know a lot of people like Lola and jays relationship but personally I’m not a fan maybe because I feel like their to similar and I’m personally more for a opposites attract so I feel like a calming factor to the craziness of the other would be nice

I don’t know much about demisexuality but that’s what came to mine either that or he’s Intersex maybe but again I’m not really educated on either.
