Now that jay is not only comfortable with his bisexuality, but actually gonna move on from his sexual fantasies with his pillows to maybe improving his social skills I look forward to how he will be in season 3. Like he’s lost interest or is growing up past these fantasies and becoming a healthy teen. I would’ve liked him to be a couple with Matthew but since they are in middle school and their personalities and interests are completely different I suppose this is ok to. Besides Matthews romance with aiden won’t last. No ‘couple’ in this show, among the kids, stays. I’d like to see if jay starts hitting on guys as strongly as he goes girls now that he knows he likes them too.
Andrew's breakdown actually makes sense when you look at his family life. It's really kind of amazing that Barbara hasn't divorced Marty considering the way he behaves. So it's not surprising that Andrew would get it into his head that he could act the way he did towards Missy because that's how his father treats his mother. A key point that Big Mouth makes is that how parents behave really *does* affect their kids' behavior. The extra Matthew development was great and it was also nice to see Jessi escaping depression and getting over her anger with his help. Friendship can be just as important as romance. That said, I would like to see Matthew dating in S3. I do worry about Nick having Connie as his Hormone Monstress. She has shown with Jessi that she confuses delinquency with maturity and I wonder if Nick's sudden apparent estrogen surge is because Connie is trying to make him behave more like the girls she has messed with...er..."mentored" previously. Finally, it is good to see Jay undergo some development and self-realization. His family is a nightmare and if he is to escape someday he needs to become a functional adult somehow. Overall, *really* great special!
Daniel S I love the theory, but I feel like you aren’t giving Connie enough credit. The Hormone Monsters are a personification of the kid’s new feelings and try to be no-shame mentors. Jessi, herself, was going to be overwhelmed and do things like yell at her mom. Connie happens to be there to say “it’s okay, that’s how you mature, you are doing great”, because that’s what all Hormone Monsters do. Just like how Maury encourages Andrew’s sexual frustration and rage, but changes his attitude with Matthew. (But’s that’s just my theory :)
@@DirectorxMizuki I was thinking more along the lines of some of the the other things Connie goaded Jessi into doing, such as shoplifting, which have *nothing* to do with puberty. Kids younger than Jessi shoplift and so do adults. Connie herself explicitly stated in the Human Resources meeting that she "just wanted to make Jessi feel good". The very idea of shoplifting didn't enter Jessi's head until Connie pushed her to do it. Likewise, there was absolutely *no* justification for Connie to accuse Nick of wanting to have sex with his parents. That was hateful towards Nick *and* his parents. The Hormone Monsters aren't always healthy for their kids, which is why HR also employs other beings like the Shame Wizard.
Daniel S Shoplifting because of “I’m a teen who’s parents are getting a divorce” is one of the biggest examples of puberty. As opposed to shoplifting due to poverty, which affects all ages. I actually do agree with you to some extent. Hormone Monsters do have specialties: Rick for slow starts, Gavin for hyper-masculine, Maury for unregulated sexual behavior, and Connie for emotional turmoil and rebellion. All of these behaviors normal, but unhealthy without “personal regulation”. Nick is a kid dependent on his parents and the type that needs that push of rebellion to grow up. However, he has stable personality and environment (due to his family). He can rebel, but knows when NOT to listen to his Hormones (monster). As opposed to Andrew who often goes above and beyond his hormones AND Jesse who is indecisive but still follows those extreme hormonal feelings.
@@DirectorxMizuki Somehow I got through my parents' divorce when I was Jessi's age without shoplifting. It has *nothing* to do with hormones or puberty. This is why Connie got in trouble with Human Resources. Because it was *not* her job to encourage Jessi to act out over her parents' divorce. Likewise, Nick has been resisting his parents' smothering all the way back to season one. There was *no* reason for Connie to accuse him of incest! If anything, she is a very bad stereotype of female hormonal behavior. But back on the subject of Andrew, Maurice is not the only bad influence in his life. Unlike Nick, or even Jessi, his family situation is *extremely* toxic. It is notable that Andrew's emotions affect Maurice as much as Maurice affects Andrew. This is why Maurice seems so much more calm when working with the more self-controlled Matthew than he does when he's with Andrew. It seems like some, but not all, Hormone Monsters don't just cause emotions, but they are affected by. Rick and Tyler were clear examples of ones that were oblivious to the feelings of their kids.
I absolutely adored this and i cant stop watching it honestly. Its something that i relate to heavy and i just adore everything about it. I hope Andrew figures himself out and gets help to handle his rage.
Honestly, after first watching it I was kinda disappointed. I had really wanted Jay and Matthew to have some more interactions. At least Jay hinting towards Mathew that he wanted more. But, sadly they didn’t even interact at all during the episode. I’m also confused as to why Jessie is better without any further plot to her just being depressed. I mean it’s great that she’s better, but they didn’t even mention it again like she just came back great. Another relationship i had wanted to see again was Andrew and Missy. I could tell she had missed him towards the end of the second season, but instead Andrew tried to be someone he wasn’t. He just wanted to be “smooth” to woo Missy, then he went crazyyyy after she wasn’t paying any special attention to him. I cant believe he got so angry that he did a bunch of dumb sh*t for no reason, and he scared Missy. In the third season they are probably not going to be talking for a while. He just soiled the whole relationship and Im scared for how he is even acting around his own friends, too. BUT, some things I did like were Jay taking a break from sex. I wonder what he will do, like if he will pick up a new hobby, or ever grow out of magic. I am really interested to see how Jays personality develops in season three, since he is my fav character. I also, like Jessie and Matthews relational development. I really like their friendship, and am excited to see where it goes. Im happy we are seeing more of Matthew, because before he was just a side character for commentary it seemed like. Nick getting moody is also interesting, and I want to see how him and Connie will continue to get along.
I think you meant to say Jay and Matthew, not Andrew lol. In the beginning I also wanted them to develop that "relationship" but then I didn't bc like Mathew said he's the only queer guy out in school and we've seen Jay being comfortable with his new discover bisexuality but that's just when he is alone and I don't think he will be all out in the public especially with his homophobic family. I feel like we will see jay trying to fully embrace his sexuality before he goes into a "relationship" with someone and also being more mature since he's the most immature of all of them. As you can see Jay is my favorite character too and Nick. ps: sorry for my English, not my first language.
@@sebastyann123 Haha yea I meant to say Matthew, I'll go edit that, thank you. And yeah, that's true, I havent really thought about how hes in private. And I also forgot about how no one knows besides Coach Steve knows that Jay's into guys, too. I'm excited to see if Jay matures, and if he gets into a relationship will he actually take it seriously, comparing to when he dated Jessie. Also you have great English!
Depression varies from person to person. Some people experience it their entire lives. Others only suffer from it for short periods. I think that Jessi's was triggered by her parents' breakup. But now that it is done, Connie is no longer pushing her to behavior that makes her feel bad and Matthew was able to help her see her mother's relationship with Dina a bit more positively, Jessi was able to recover. Jay needs time to process his bisexuality and what it means from a relationship standpoint. Suzette and Brad were extreme gender stereotypes and Jay needs to find a healthier middle ground. Especially since he was projecting adult personalities onto them, which is definitely not healthy for a kid his age (even if he thinks of himself as 40).
@@daniels7907 I agree with you for Jessie and her mother that she feels happy for her... But what about her father? And yeah Jay has a long road ahead of him to what it means to have a REAL stable relationship
@@yesikanarvaez5027 My guess is that she has lower expectations of her father. As much as he loves her, he has been an unemployed stoner for years. Any improvement would be a step up at this point. Although he could slide further downhill in S3 and Jessi might have problems with it. I admitted also have my doubts about Shannon and Dina.
I enjoyed the other character's stories in this special, however I really didn't like how the writers handled Andrew. I get that we get to see the more aggressive side of him, but a lot of his actions are simply uncharacteristic. He turned out to be a total asshole in this episode, having no redeemable qualities even in the end. Was really hoping that his story arc would have him realize his negative actions and apologize to Missy, instead, we get to see a PSA on toxic masculinity through the character of Andrew.
@@laurenanderson5052 I mean those are good points. But for many, seeing a good character and good ship literally crash and burn is hard to see. I loved Andrew and wanted him to succeed.
