- I have a many, many rules that I follow in life. One of those is that if I find a true Champagne under $30, then I buy it on the spot. In my recent alco-haul from Costco, I found that they had just that. Here is my review of the Kirkland Signature Brut Champagne.
►Vintage: NV
►Varietal: Pinot Meunier, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay
►Region: France
►ABV: 12%
►Price: $20

Yup. I love it
I wished that I had tried their champagne years ago. The bottle I bought tasted close enough to Moet Chandon (although champagne can vary bottle to bottle within the same brand) so at $20, you can't lose!
A lot of people look down on Costco brand wines but I think they are really well curated.
Love your channel and insta! Super helpful! 🙌
It would be cool if you did bulk comparisons at price points. Example: Barefoot vs Bota Box vs Kirkland vs Rex Goliath etc Chardonnay all around $6 per bottle, which would win your suggestion at that price point.
I did some "showdowns" in the past. Maybe it's time to relaunch that series.
@@WineOnTheDime I'll have to go search for those! I have only been following for a month or two now, so I've got some videos to catch up on :-)
Had KS champagne a few years ago (probably a year or two after you made this video) and found it harsh, unbalanced and, even at $20 not worth it. I've heard that Costco changes up the supplier occasionally so maybe that was it. Have also heard the supplier has changed since my bad experience so I might go back and give it another try.
Costco frequently changes their producers. This is mostly to find producers that can supply the volume and price point that their product teams are setting.
Interesting coincidence - our local paper had a certified somm blind taste this Kirkland champagne against some in the $50-60 range and he came to the same conclusion you did. As good or sometimes better than the pricier ones. The somm also loved the Kirkland Ribera del Duero Gran Reserva ($15.99) which typically costs around $50 or more.
That's cool! Thanks for letting me know that I'm not totally full of hot air. :) As for that Ribera, I'm totally going to search for it the next time I am there.
what was the 50 dollar Champagne you bought?
If I'm drinking with my picky Champagne friends (AKA my "work wife) then I'll get Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label or Moet & Chandon. If I'm getting it for myself, then I'll get this, the Trader Joe's Sparkling Wines, or sparkling wines from Graham Beck in S. Africa.
@@WineOnTheDime I was curious as to which 50 dollar Champagne in particular it was
It's been a while so I do recall. I would lean that it was a Most & Chandon Brut if I must guess.
I'm neither a sparkling wine or champagne person but I will drink it if offered, especially for special occasions......that being said, a young couple at your age, there is really only a few examples of "special occasions" requiring special wine..........one of those occasions typically requires another person to abstain from alcohol.........😉
But this is just conjecture at this point too......😀
Haha! Indeed. Not going to have any more of those events though. :)
