You know what’s funny, I used to think that Rudy was joking when he said people hated him… I was wrong. I was recently at the Connecticut Pokémon regional championships and overheard one of the Pokémon vendors talking about magic cards. I don’t collect magic but I chimed in saying that I heard about the new lord of the rings set from watching Rudy’s channel… BIG MISTAKE. The guy went off on a literal 10 minute RANT about how Rudy was the most dishonest, evil person in the hobby. Talking about how he rips people off and pumps product that he owns.. keep in mind that this person was a vendor themselves and was literally buying peoples’ Pokemon collections for 40% of what I’d sell them for if I listed on eBay. I couldn’t believe the blatant hypocrisy, but literally it showed me that people will always hate you for playing the game better than them.
I appreciate you Rudy, thanks for getting these videos out and I’m glad that for every Timmy, there’s a fan 🤙

😂 I hope he does a white board video on it at some point. I love watching those videos back. It went from "I'm buying loads of Pokémon" to "I hate Pokémon, it's going in the bathroom" and finally "My Pokémon bathroom appreciated by $250000". 😂

I think realistically what will happen is this: in 2040 someone will see the videos and say "wow a children's game turned into how much money?" and then they will proceed to turn the channel and watch reruns of some show that isn't out yet. they will never consider buying a single pack from 2040 to hold onto.... this is why sealed increases in value. it will never evvvver increase to base set prices ever again. (from $3 to $600 in 20 years, never again)

if you think the value will go from $4 or $4.49 up to $600 per pack in 20 years you will be disappointed. but if some of those packs are $40 and some are $75 and a few are $100 isn't that AMAZING and doesn't that seem more realistic when everyone has a full closet of sealed and only a certain amount will sell out each year. many will hold and the value will not go to $600 per pack. $600 per booster box yes. I can see that. etb also increase in value very quickly
Always love when Rudy pulls the 2 most expensive cards in a set (Gardevoir and volcanian are secret rares) and barely knows it.

What an emotional roller coaster this has been. Rudy buying in to Pokémon and then the Roaring Skies restock happened and he posted that video where he was all in. Fast forward to the I quit Pokémon video with the infamous Rudy bathroom. All the way to right now it seems like the cycle of Pokémon is just repeating itself the only difference is Rudy putting more position than ever. Stay the course don’t make emotional guided financial decisions is what I’ve learned from Rudy.

@@enigmaohawaii I doubt it. His reaction to these is pretty genuine and in his other Pokemon videos, he runs through packs just like this without knowing which ones are the secret rares/hits/chase cards.

Its simple economics with any of this card stuff - even when demand stays constant on a shrinking supply - price will increase. It’s exactly why buy and hold sealed is the name of the game.

Pokemon always goes up. Even worst set from Sun & Moon is $185. These recent sets are so much better and will age nicely.
What you people dont understand is that in 50 years all these items will be worth jack shit almost. When you have thousands of cards to pick from.......99% is worthless.

It’s not that no one believed stream Siege would be where it’s at today. I believe people simply didn’t want to wait the 8-10 premium wait time for the profits; especially when similar profits could’ve otherwise been made with different Pokémon products in FAR less time.
$125 for a Booster Box.. I would love that. In Europe it's 180-190€ per booster box at release... it's getting way too expensive here.

Ima say it. The people who see a soft market price a week after launch and squawk that they are gonna quit card games have no business here to begin with. They are neither a real investor (staying the course in a bad market and buying at a lower entry) nor are they a player who can buy boxes at a reasonable price.

As a store owner the thing that bugs me is customers who demand I sell things at a loss because they think it’s should be lower Or because another store sells at a loss, Paldea we were selling at $120 ppl were telling me it should be $90 -$95 which is how much our wholesale is. Especially considering we never sell above MSRP if it’s still in print. 😑

This break was WAY above average for back then. Guy hit two secret rares which are normally like 1 per 3 boxes in that Mega EX era.
Love the Pokémon content Rudy! Not much into sealed myself but I have a spicy binder I keep some money cards in, made it halfway on EVO SKY and got the $300 Rayquaza and I plan to hold it for a long time!!

Even a garbage set like Crimson Invasion is at $200 a box. Proves that you should always buy at least a couple boxes of every set that comes out and just hold onto them. Someone will have nostalgia for every set someday and want to open it.
What some people fail to realize is that the people who make money on selling Pokemon cards, or any trading card for that matter, usually make their money off of selling singles. There's a higher profit margin to be made there. Granted, there are a lot of factors that go into that, playability, age, etc., that determine the price.

And now that I'm at the end I'll follow up in regard to 85 vs 120 for a box. After all is said and done what counts is that HAD IT. That you have a hook in the ship taking off. If you see a potential trajectory, if you think maybe its worth investing in, why would you let $55 turn you from yes to absolutely not? Just buy it. Just get it have that stake have that piece of the pie, the cut is what you need not the absolute best price possible. Pokemon isn't day trading but we so often let a short time frame make long term decisions. If you like it just buy it, get the stake in whatever wave may come.
I played during this era of Pokémon and I can 100% agree that nobody cared or wanted steam siege. It was severely looked down upon. I liked the cards but I also didn’t care about it except the singles. People saying they would have bought boxes back then is the same thing as saying I would buy the winning lotto ticket from whenever ago.
I'm not a sealed collector for English but Crimson was/is a bad set but I can see its value in staying sealed. People forget for a long time pokemon was flat or doing nothing even for vintage. 2019 you could buy base set for like 90k. Pokemon sets now are looking great and trainer gallery was the best move in a long time

Pokémon pulls have been horrible for a few years already. I don’t even waist my money anymore. You could literally spend 100$ in products and only get 1 or 2 good hits. It’s definitely not worth it, and then we see that there’s people stealing all the good hits directly from the assembly line. Who’s to say that it hasn’t been going on for years. It most likely was.
I don't play pokemon but I read that if the shine on the holos is vertical and not diagonal then they are fake. Or are the holos different for this set?

Once a set of anything goes OOP, it’s price is no longer tied to EV of the break. It becomes it’s own product and has it’s own supply and demand.

It is crazy how much pokemon has died but people still love it for collecting. The games are the real fanbase these days but I'll always love the card from being a kid. I just miss the days when you had time to sit with a set and learn it and have time to collect it. Feels like you are just buying now to chase new cards
Speaking for myself I wondered about making money in it because kids and parents buy them like candy so I'd love a piece of that action. But as it turns out you really can't make much, and as you mention its not going to stay a scalpers paradise. A market will eventually balance so even with the money some people were making that imbalance will go away and margins go back to normal.

Yeah I got about 100+ stake in Battle Styles. only now they are closing in to my price target. still hold them even though /i maight need to take a bullet and liquidate it.
So PSA is the most popular and usually hold good value long term. Ive heard of PSA 9s selling higher than a CGC 9 of the same card. But a CGC 10 trumps all PSA 10s somehow value wise. And dont even get me started if it gets a black label from CGC

I never understood the hype around the newer Pokemon cards. Literally all but 1 or 2 of the cards in a set have any actual value
Those are actually the two most valuable cards in the set so he did good all things considered. Did he make back 400 dollars absolutely not but he got the best cards he could.
Think a lot of the value confusion comes from people seeing a og card got for 100,000 and thinks all cards are worth a bunch.

if you dig deeper into investing in pokemon and figure out the right places to invest it can be very profitable. but yea not really a short term flip type of hobby. for instance buying japanese trainers/waifus is very profitable. buying lillie from sun&moon era in english or japanese is much better than investing in bitcoin

If this is the way it was with pokemon then I have no doubt I'm here for life... It's still pretty easy to make money with it consistently.
I'm not claiming to make big bank on it, but it's pretty consistent, for me anyway.
They made the pull rates 6x on the best cards in Scarlet and Violet.

When you ran those sales 6-7 years the tins were BOGO at big box stores on Black Friday because nobody wanted them and they didn’t want to get stuck with unsellable product. And then the XY tins had the nerve to not double immediately and actually dragged down online prices for over a year but yeah nobody remembers any of that and nobody still has any ;)

Pokemon is in a fine spot, but scarlet & violet base was a bad set.
The absolute hilarity that just YESTERDAY I was being ridiculed for promoting an LGS that gave me a discount code for my viewers that would let people get boxes of the new set for $108, and people were telling me I was trying to rip people off Becuase they were buying them on eBay for $90 and thought I was lying when I told them that price was below distribution cost lol.
I think $108 this close to release is a good deal. You can correct me if I am wrong, but I think your post said $108 was the best price you’ve seen for Paldea. Personally I got my boxes at $100, and just got obsidian flame at $105, but I order months in advanced from a trusted LGS.
I didn’t post on your post, but if I had I probably would have said it’s not the best price I’ve seen, but most likely the best price you will see this close to release.
I know the closest LGS to me will be selling them at $120 before tax, which is why I don’t buy boxes from them anymore, just singles.
@michaelzawitoski1842 can confirm that $100 for 1 box of P.Evolved is the best I've seen, even this morning. Was the same for base, too. $108 isn't bad, though.

I’m sitting on approx 100 swsh BB’s and another 60 worth of other product I don’t plan on selling for at least 5 years. I haven’t cared much for SV but still buying 2 booster box cases for each release to hold. I’ve kinda gone overboard with the new fab dusk till dawn set I got 10 cases preordered at 81$ per booster. Hopefully in 5-10 years it pays off
You won't lose money on Pokemon but don't expect great returns.
