Youre just playing with words.. of course they want to make the right moves quickly. No one said they will make moves just to make quick moves
They don’t have “time” he’s ready now
If you are a Spurs Fan you should know a person like Wemby is not going to wait around 5-7 years on a sorry team …
They always had about 3 years with him to show marked improvement…
If by his 3rd year they are not a playoff team he won’t be happy…
Since the décision a Lebron … unhappy players just ask for a trade ..
But Pop is there and I think he gets it … Wemby is ready to win now …
@@grichkatayou7558are you woj? How would you know
Making win-now moves in a rebuild is exactly how you end up like the Atlanta Hawks. OKC was terrible for 3 years and now look at them after they reaped the benefits of the draft. Give the Spurs one more year to be terrible and have them get all their top 10 draft picks in 2024 and 2025 and their set for a dynasty. Mfs so impatient.
Whats Wemby gonna do? Ask out in his 2nd year? I aint never seen that happen in NBA history. Spurs know they got 4 years to make him happy and theyre not just gonna let someone like that walk in free agency so they know they gotta make sure hes happy by that deadline..but right now, theyre playing at their own pace. Just enjoy the ride
But they’ve been losing for 5 years already. Like I get what you saying be sheesh. Need to start saying results at least by next year
What you said is irrelevant to wembys timeline@@ringbellz1062
@@ringbellz1062mediocrity is different than rebuilding. We went through the Aldridge and DeRozan and Murray and White age after the Big 3 retired.
It wasn't until last year when we traded white and Murray when we went into full rebuild mode.
Technically Year 1 of full rebuild started when we got #1 pick in lottery.
Wembanyama as a competitor won't accept the Spurs running it back with another 15-win roster next year. Nor should he. He'll be pushing the front office to at least make the roster respectable enough to aid with his own personal development if nothing else.
All rebuilds are different and assuming a draft-only approach would ever be as successful as OKC's seems unwise given that was very much the best-case scenario.
Sam Presti is far more experienced than Brian Wright who doesn't exactly have the best talent acquisition record so far. He passed on Tyrese Haliburton for Devin Vassell in 2020, reached for Josh Primo in 2021 and passed on Jalen Williams for Jeremy Sochan in 2022.
That the Spurs' supporting cast is so awful is largely of his own doing which potentially makes a draft-only approach an incredibly risky proposition.
The Atlanta comparison's unfair too since hastily building around a 6'1" point guard is a lot harder and more inadvisable than with a 7'5" basketball demi-god.
Personally I think an approach that blends draft picks with trades for known quantities is better than simply one or the other.
Hawks didn’t make a win now move the reason they bad now because they don’t have any consistency and the higher ups don’t want to win

@@rateno thats not true, prospects like that speed up the process, because they are too good to produce a losing record and produce lottery picks
Yeah and despite Wemby having a borderline All Star caliber season in his rookie year, the Spurs still suck. They have a generational talent, and they should get a very high pick in the next draft. If the Spurs do their homework and pick the right guy in the draft then the Spurs should be competing before too long.
Sports media just wants to create a frenzy. The Spurs will never give into that nonsense. They will build a sustainable winning machine with some of the young guys they have now. Patience will serve them far better than trading the farm for a vet.
Yup. And having a worse record only helps that cause because of the draft. I hope they aim for players who love to pass because they don't have enough right now lmao

ESPN would like you to think Wemby won the game alone yesterday, not that Devin Vassell also scored 28 points, Sochan had a 20 and 10 game, Tre Jones made multiple threes and assists, Keldon was a spark off the bench. This isn't just a Wemby show, they are all working together and its the chemistry that has made them better throughout the year. They are all the core of the team building together. There is no rushing
100% correct. They are trying to push the narrative for him to leave if he doesn’t win a chip in 3 years. Trust me it’s coming
If memory serves, in all the Spurs' wins this year, at least two players had big games. This makes sense.
That’s true but he and Vassell are the only above average players on the team. They all may have good nights but they’re the only ones having a good season and being fairly consistent. It’s not like ESPN is off that the team is trash. And Wemby is having the best rookie season ever from someone under 21
That team isn't trash. They just are learning to play with a guy who is the focus offensively and defensively and they are all in their 20s@@michaelturley3457

Spurs don't need to rush. They should keep developing and set themselves up to be serious contenders starting in two-three years imo as another high draft pick or two would do more for them than going all in with 20 year old Wemby next season would. Give him and the rest of the team time to grow.

I’m sure the Spurs front office fully understands where they stand with Vic and the team. They are historically a risk-averse franchise, they won’t go all-in on a big move that could go either way. They will look to make solid incremental improvements through the offseason within their ability to do so. They may make a bigger free-agency move when they believe they have the team foundations to support it and it translates into winning and contention. This offseason is probably not the time though. Vic has probably been better than they expected in season one, but he’s still very unpolished and green in a many areas of the game and is in his early stages of development. It makes sense to continue to focus on his individual growth and define what his game will ultimately ideally look like, because that will help determine who best to place around him. They have a young core of high character players, there’s a lot to be said for culture and camaraderie. Vic may get sick of losing, but he may also value his teammates as friends. The Spurs know all of this and more. Trust they will play this the best they know how.
Would strongly consider making a deal for Melo Ball. And perhaps, p/u James Wiseman to develop as the center. I think he can still develop and be more than serviceable along side Wemby.

Clearly all of the potential to be the franchise. The Sprurs have a responsibility to the sport & the fans to make all of the best moves.
No question about it. We are seeing the player who is in the process of redefining what being the GOAT means.
They just say things...RANDOM things!
It’s also important that the spurs shouldn’t panic
I think a compromise between two views points is most reasonable for spurs. All the media bozos saying they need to DO IT NOW, would be knee gut reaction to move ton of assets this offseason. Look at what happened to mavericks though. You take big swings early and it doesn’t work out, you cap yourself and put a ceiling
I think they can draft well this offseason, add a shooter/wing defender in free agency or whatever and just try to win next year.
I think in year 3 they can make a big move if right player arises. Moving quickly but within reason and if Wemby still wants be with team, he would find acceptable.
Trae young is interesting though since spurs hold all those hawks pics
Young is going to be a Spur. Those two could really help eachother out
Trae Young isn’t the answer. He’s not a dude Pop would want around.
@@radiologicphysicist1083 Kawhi was a dude pop wanted around and Kawhi didn't want to be around pop.
Spurs should get wemby, Trae young
Rashad McCants said what everybody was thinking but was afraid to say: Popovich is a bad coach. He needs superteams to win.
@@Zenigundamno way you think that
@@Zenigundam yeah when he said that I quickly remembered that he was a bad player in the league and then wrote off everything he said. I’ll take the coach that one five chips and went to the playoffs 20 straight seasons over a dude who was a lottery pick and flamed out of the league in four years
@@Gman333g both of those things were inaccurate. You cannot be the among winningest coaches in league history over 20 years and be a bad coach. It does not work like that. Credit should be equally distributed not all given to one person.
@@Zenigundam Lulz, so did Jackson. So did Riley, so did Sprol, so did Kerr. Every coach needs a competent core of stars to do anything.
Only reason I would build slightly faster than usual is you never know how long Wemby will be healthy
He should be DPOY this season too
The last player we saw this kind of insane competitiveness was Kobe, another European. Why the US athlete are all friends.
It's Brian Windy who's in the right here: Spurs need to go slow at least until the 2025 Draft. 2024 Draft is too uncertain at the top, and the NBA is too good in its better half to allow this Spurs team to make a strong run for the next years to come. Instead of trading or signing free-agents for a late playoffs spot, the Spurs should suck next year too and try to get a potential superstar in Cooper Flagg or Ace Bailey. If they draft their other starters in this year's Draft, they'll be set for the next decade. Imagine, they get Sarr and Dillingham this year, then Flagg the next one, that would give them the following starting lineup in 2025-26: Dillingham-Vassell-Flagg-Sarr-Wembanyama. Much like the Thunder, you could reach the top of your conference from day 1 with such talents.
They did move quickly when they drafted Wemby to give the existing players some help.
if the spurs dont do anything quickly, i can see wemby not sigining the extension contract
Finally some fking hype that's worth it.
Matter of time. Trust the process. Pop knows what is doing. I hope. High hope ! 🏀🇫🇷😲
Not necessarily a Spurs fan but they are definitely moving forward.
